Quite an eye-opener...if you look at the cars in the Upper A3 that have been around for a year, Fiesta is second to NHC in sales for the period April to October.........not bad at all in a country full of Ford haters....nah, let me tone that down - Ford critics

suman, I guess it depends on the way you look at it (the "glass half empty or half full" scenario). If India is full of Ford haters / critics, how would the Fiesta be in 2nd place ? To me India looks like a bunch of Ford lovers, trailing just a wee bit behind Honda lovers.

Check Murad Ali Baig's Auto News Bulletin . The Verna is definitely not selling as much as the City.
Would rather like to wait for 6 more months for a more complete idea of how Verna is received in the market.

But thats bad for a new launch. Especially if you see the numbers the Fiesta had scored following its launch, even when up against an upgrade of the NHC.

Hyundai needs an urgent image overhaul - with some hardhitting and slick PR badly. The last thing the Indian car market needs is to have Hyundai all gone in 5 years leaving the A-C segments completely to Maruti ; resembles a time gone-by.

Yes indeed the figures are quite low for a newly launched car. But didnt hyundai tell that Verna's monthly production is 2500 units which they're planning to increase to 3000 units. If thats the case the they're selling whatever they're producing.

Even the dealers here in Cochin are saying that there are lot of bookings for Verna but same time shortage of cars.

I feel hyundai gotta discontinue Accent completely and introduce Verna 1.4 petrol model at a killer price tag like the Accent.

Exactly what i was told. All vernas sold out.
And i was told that hyundai's next production date is 5th Jan07, and till then no vernas will be delivered. I booked a CRDi anyways. So basically, I have to wait till about the 15th of Jan.

I also feel the number of vernas seen on the road is increasing, despite my dislike for the front looks of the car.

I used see only demo cars in Hyderabad, in the last one week I might have seen at least close to 10.

Whatever be the reason, It seems definitely lesser than the number of Aveos and Fiestas seen soon after their launch.

I saw almost 10 vernas on the same day. 6 of them in the chennai-bangalore highway! I didnt take a test drive yet. But I just sat inside the verna and had a feel of it. The car felt smaller inside and the front seat did not have as much leg room as a fiesta!

Thank you. I booked a white one (don't worry it's not red lol), because the car will get scratched very often as i will drive from home to town everyday. And it will be parked on the street.

Yes... But those figure were in hoping that the accent is not hit hard by verna...

But, accent numbers have crashed... and the car is avaliable only on order now... Dealers not keeping stocks of accents... So, hyundai needs to sell more number of vernas...

agreed, fiesta has oversold the verna, if i may use that word, but, the usefulness & worthiness of the car cannot be judged by it's initial sales. ford cannot be trusted to keep the fiesta rolling out for the next 5 years, but hyundai can be trusted to be manufacturing & marketing the verna for 5 years & supporting it with the availability of spares etc. can anyone say the same about the best car that ford has released till date, the Escort ????
