re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

My vote goes to the Honda Amaze. Really grown up and proper Sedan for hatchback price (lower variants). Amazing versatility, interior space, handsome looks, a strong diesel engine for the segment, mated to a very well matched CVT...The list goes on.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

My vote goes to Toyota Yaris.
Decision is based on simple consideration, if I have to, which one will I buy from the given list.
Two strong points goes in favor of Yaris. One the safety kit on offer and two Toyota's reliability+fuss free ownership.

I won't say a lot, barring Ford cars and Yaris, I don't see any other manufacturer getting 6-7 airbags specially till the 12-13 lacs ONR price point.
Also, the Figo/Aspire that got 3 star was a 2 airbag model, not 6. I am sure with 6 airbags the score would improve!

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

Voted for Mahindra Marazzo.

It is a really wonderful product - Quite unlike any Mahindra so far - Infact, had this been available during my car purchase last year; it would have definitely made the cut even though my utility for a 7 seater is very less.

I think it is partly down to the fantastic value proposition that it holds - now with a Global NCAP 4 star safety rating; it is a proven safe alternative as well.

If my needs change in the future; I would most certainly be tempted to buy this over the Ertiga / Crysta / Lodgy / BR-V simply because of the product.

Not impressed with any single one of them - none are really outstanding in terms of value at their respective price points. Would've liked to vote for the Lexus' but their price takes that benefit away from them.

Voted for Honda Amaze. The new sharp and edgy looks combined with that near 100hp diesel engine, it is an all rounder package for those who "desire" to buy a slightly different compact sedan. Don't know why the facelifted Ford Aspire was not in the list since it can be considered as the jack of all trades in its segment. Being a happy owner of the Aspire S, I expected a bit more from its facelift model but Ford decided to retain its sober looks which I would say is one of the reasons why their products don't shine well in the market.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

I was split between the Honda Amaze and the Mahindra Marazzo. Finally what settled the score is the question "Which of the 2 cars shows the biggest improvement from its predecessor?"

Assuming that the Xylo is the successor of the Marazzo, there is no doubt that the new Mahindra shows a watershed moment in the evolution of Mahindra as a manufacturer. I love the car inside and out, though I haven't driven it. IMHO they've hit the sweet spot between the Ertiga and the Innova. Its a vehicle that I certainly hope to see on the Top20 charts very soon.

These "awards" seem to be an exercise in keeping all manufacturers happy.

What does this even mean: "Manufacturer of the Year: Tata Motors"?
or even this: "Variant of the Year: Ford Freestyle"?
How was "Engine of the Year: Mahindra 1.5L diesel" decided?

Been like this for quite a while. There's a joke running that they haven't given the Best Gearknob of the Year, yet!

17 manufacturers in one Award show, no less.

It's all about pleasing all manufacturers to get advertisements and sponsors. Glad Team Bhp awards are as transparent and fair as it gets.

My vote went to Volvo XC40 due to its delightful looks, never ending list of features and outstanding safety.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

My choice is the new Ertiga, for the following reasons:

1) More interior space now

2) Usable 3rd row now - ideal for average Indian family (average height - Male: 5'5" ; Female: 5'1").

3) More boot space with third row up. Also partition / storage, which enhances the possibility of accommodating taller items vertically.

4) Most important - New petrol engine which the competition lacks. Small Hybrid aspect is welcome, and still not offered in mass market vehicles, let alone an MPV. Mahindra's system does not give any boost, it is basically a start stop system, as far as I understand.

5) Also, acceptable fuel efficiency, considering it is a MUV and relatively heavy, atleast for a Maruti. Two Ertiga owners that I know, both went for petrol variants (old model).

6) Old, but tried and tested diesel engine

7) Sales & service network of Maruti

8) Expected to be safe, since made on global platform

9) Priced lower than any other respectable 7 seater. I'm not considering the Datsun Go+ contraption.

Marazzo was also a contender. Even though it fills a niche, I personally feel that in comparison to the Ertiga, it does not offer anything extra substantially.

Space is a subjective aspect, and I rarely see last row of MPVs being used (other than call centre vehicles). For once in a while requirement, Ertiga will suffice. For long journeys, Marazzo also will be able to accommodate maximum of six persons only, with luggage inside the vehicle – one seat will have to be folded.

Plus Marazzo’s engine is new – so has to prove its mettle. In fact the entire vehicle is new – which is quite welcome – but needs to prove itself in the long run. Ertiga’s petrol engine is relatively new in India, but is already doing duty in other vehicles in the Suzuki portfolio.

re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

Gathering 37% of the poll & with 726 BHPian votes, the Mahindra Marazzo is Team-BHP's Car of 2018!

In terms of product engineering & market positioning, Mahindra has hit the bull's eye. A true all-rounder, and the 4-star NCAP safety rating was the icing on the cake. Wishlist? A competent 6-speed AT. Mahindra did a fantastic job with the XUV500 AT and I expect as good a match between the engine & gearbox for the Marazzo .

Impressed with the Honda Amaze getting the 2nd spot. Should tell Honda why it shouldn't diverge from its brand values. The new Amaze is so much improved over the older car, while the CVT + Diesel combination is a master-piece in the budget segment. Equally amazed with the Volvo XC40 garnering 227 votes. I believe this is the first time that a luxury car has gotten this volume of votes in our COTY. Says a lot about Volvo's turnaround in terms of image & product, both. I don't think any luxury car has ever been on the Team-BHP podium.

Re: Team-BHP Car of the Year, 2018. EDIT: It's the Mahindra Marazzo

I have nothing against Mahindra but Marazzo as COTY just shows that how little choices we Indians have for cars. Very high taxes for CBD and CKD imports and Maruti taking half of the pie despite decent market growth means, we will continue to see very few exciting models.

Hopefully, EV revolution will change this situation in future.
