Re: Next-gen Maruti WagonR spied. Edit: Launched @ Rs. 4.19 lakhs

Wagon R was never a looker and the current one follows the same tall boy design philosophy ahh boring but better than previous generation.

The new 1.2 litre 4-pot engine will be nice to get around in city traffic. I hope the AMT has improved significantly and is comparable to what we have on the new Santro. With a best in class boot and interior space this can be practical car for city use.

Re: Next-gen Maruti WagonR spied. Edit: Launched @ Rs. 4.19 lakhs

There are errors in the spec sheet. For example it is mentioned that the tachometer will be in white colour while the tacho is actually a shade of orange / amber. Hoping that the missing tacho on the Vxi variant is also a spec sheet error. Also the spec sheet mentions two speakers. There is a provision for speakers on the rear doors. So it might have 4 speakers, though we will have to wait for the reviews to confirm.

Those beige seats suck big time. Both the colour as well as the fit and finish. It screams cost cutting and is totally out of sync with the rest of the car. I can't understand why Maruti is hell bent on beige which is not at all practical for our climate.

All body panels are different. It will never come here unless there is a generation change next time around. An electric WagonR with current body is possible.

New Wagon-R in white looks great. Specially from the rear.

I guess this is VXI variant in above pictures because of no rear wiper. Rear wiper is there in the pictures of ZXI variant in the brochure.

The car looks worse than the old model. The older model was decent, but this is one BAD! Need to see one in person to decide I think.

Looks much more acceptable in person. I still cannot digest its looks in images.

Looks are indeed subjective
I like the looks of this new generation WagonR. It looks subtle, practical and doesn’t have any of the quirkiness. And yet it still doesn’t look boring, just looks perfect to me. I own a current generation WagonR (or is it already previous gen?) and would prefer this new one any day.

This new generation model answers almost all the shortcomings of the outgoing model while also adding a few new shortcomings. It looks like the perfect car for exchange (I wouldn’t call this an upgrade) for existing WagonR fans.

With the Wagon R bigger in all dimensions and having the same power train and features, as the Ignis; who would buy an Ignis!?

The Ignis still aces the WagonR in many departments:

1. More features. The Ignis Alpha has so much more to offer than the WagonR ZXi

2. Better build and perceived quality.

3. Better NVH.

4. Better ride & handling.

5. Despite lesser space, the seats on the Ignis feel much better bolstered.

6. The throttle response on cars like Swift/Ignis/Baleno is much better than WagonR. The tuning of the WagonR feels a bit conservative.

These are some of the differences I noticed during my short drive today.

Regards,
Shashi

Re: Next-gen Maruti WagonR spied. Edit: Launched @ Rs. 4.19 lakhs

The first set of pictures shared by @leoshashi are of the 1.2L Vxi while the second set are of the 1.0 Vxi. Also confirmed is that there is no tachometer on the K10 Vxi and the instrument cluster design itself is different from the Zxi variant. The vehicle looks much better than what the initial set of pictures suggested.

There is no doubt in my mind that this will go on to become a bigger hit than both the previous generations. That's primarily because of the large combination of choices provided to the customer. Moreover on the practicality front you just can't beat a WagonR and with the option of the K12 motor thrown in, it takes practicality to a whole new level.

The WagonR is now a budget premium offering, while the Ignis is a premium budget offering.

The Ignis also gets adjustable headrests, front and rear. Push button entry and push button start stop, alloy wheels (2nd top, zeta). Projector headlights and drls (top, alpha). Perhaps better driving dynamics at higher speeds due to a lower height, electric steering, automatic climate control ac.
