I have seen these quite a few times in the city too but never got a chance to click a picture. It seems quite imposing though.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

What's happening with the names of cars these days. First Harrier now Hector.

Harrier also was out of place and Hector even more so. MG historically has been letters as names and MG India could have kept the same combination.

When you go back historically people refer to MG A, MG B, TA, TC or even the MG6.

Seems like this car also has the huge rear overhang like the alturas. That's one thing that I hate the most in cars, makes it look like a bus.

And I simply do not understand why they couldn't just replace the "H" with a "V" and call it Vector. I mean seriously, it'll sound awkward in conversations, Guy 1: hey man, I bought a new car Guy 2: Great! Which is? Guy1: Hector. Guy 2: Hector, who? Guy 1: no, the new Hector, MG Hector.
Guy 2:*stares at the other dude's face for a second of awkwardness, and then pretends to understand what you're talking about*

Just quickly Googled about this Hector/Baojun 530/Chevy Captiva ()??

Is it true? Is Hector the 2019 Captiva? Just by looks? Or guts too?

You are bang on! Take a look at these:

https://www.financialexpress.com/aut...xpect/1380374/

It looks like a really well executed SUV!

The 2019 Capitva is indeed a rebadged Baojun / Wuling, and not just a similar looking vehicle.

http://gmauthority.com/blog/2018/11/...rolet-captiva/

Quoting from the article:

"Developed by GM’s Chinese three-way joint venture – SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), the new Chevrolet Captiva can carry a maximum of seven people. It stretches 183.3 inches long on a wheelbase of 108.3 inches. With these dimensions, the new Captiva is larger than the two previous of 5 and 7 passenger variants originally developed by Daewoo Motors, which later was renamed to GM Korea as it was integrated into General Motors’ global vehicle development operations"

That matches the baojun 530's China dimensions: 4655mm x 1835mm x 1760mm (LxWxH).

The baojun 530 China /wuling Almaz Indonesia has a 3 row 7 seater variant besides the 5 seater on the same body.

I guess they would initially launch the 5 seater to jump head on into the exploding compact suv market in India. Maybe add the two seats later and take on the big boys down the line?

Though at 4655mm long , it is a spacious 5 seater, the third row of the seven seater may be a tight fit. But then it's longer than the XUV 5OO and the CRV, so might work out.

The wuling almaz from wuling4sd.com

MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L-imageuploadedbyteambhp1547287202.360938.jpg

Also I have a wild thought: Though the GM/ Chevrolet might not echo well here and agreed that MG wants to play the British heritage card and establish themselves as distinctive brand in India, I still think naming this MG Captiva would be a smarter move? As MG Hector it's a 2 way gamble because both the first and second names are new to India. At least with the Captiva , it does ring some fond bells to us.

I think calling it Captiva in India would be suicide, given the Captiva's history of catching fire.

Some pretty neat promotions out there being aired by MGI. Liked the one showing the Kerala guy.

re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

I hope while going through all these details you guys haven't forgot The fact that Hector is gonna be running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines. On top of that, he just came into Harry'sm and ordered three T66 turbos with NOS and a Motec system exhaust.

Sorry just can't hold this back. Mods no infractions please.

I am not sure it is the camouflage but I find it to be a little under wheeled. It needs to bigger rims. I hate the fact that how our poor road infrastructure make manufacturer increase the rubber and decrease the wheel size on most of their models. This ensure that incomplete look.

The second guy can understand because he loves driving his skoda Laura and loves ogling at the fine curves of his Creta?
Nothing can sound more odd than "driver Laura nikalo" if that car can sell with that name, hector will sell as well.

Pages after pages was written here on Team-BHP about Creta when it was launched. But what does the sales numbers show? People will go for the better product.

The only MG's with names were the Magnette and the Midget. Hector seems to be totally out of whack
