Re: India-bound Jeep 7-seater SUV, named Meridian

Just curious, why would they spend R&D budget to build something new when they have Cherokee in their portfolio that fills this gap, why not bring / build Cherokee from their Chakan plant ?

Re: India-bound Jeep 7-seater SUV, named Meridian

Curious to know what is Competition 1 and 2 here? I am assuming 1 is Fortuner, not sure which one is 2. If Jeep is targeting body on frame SUVs, I fear they have got their marketing wrong. Body frame SUVs sell mainly for its ruggedness, abuse friendly nature and utility on offer. Only a small percentage of buyers will consider better interiors/extra mm space on offer. They should target the likes of Kodiaq/X1/C5/GLA etc.

- The first customer test drives/bookings likely around May 2022
- Launch expected in June
- Can do a 0-100 kmph in 10.8 seconds and the top speed of the car is rated at 198 kmph.
The last point is disappointing. A company claimed figures of 10.8 seconds, means they will be getting the same tune as Compass. This is going to be slower than Fortuner, forget Kodiaq.
Not sure who is competition 1 and 2 - it cannot be Fortuner as its claimed 0 to 100 numbers are better than Meridian

I am surprised they haven’t revealed the engine specs yet. I am still trying to find out. But no one has a proper answer.

Generally that is the 1st thing that the manufacturer gloats about. Skoda made it a big deal with the Kodiaq. Jeep seems rather muted.

Seems like a pretty feature rich well sorted out car. I hope the power terrain lives up to it.

IT's mentioned in the slide in one of the images. Same 2.0L diesel engine with 170PS as the regular compass.

The only highlight is that they have managed to re-engineer the 9 speed AT for front wheel drive only.

Till now the 9 speed AT was an AWD box. This is India specific change as globally the 9 speed is always AWD.

I was curious about the same information. Since they mentioned its a 2.0L, I googled up their MJD portfolio, the maximum state of tune for that engine is 192HP. I hope they are not bringing it in the same 170 HP tune as its in the Compass else the Compass will have better power to weight ratio. They need their 2.2L engine to compete with the Fortuner (in terms of raw power).

I see the 2.0L mentioned, but the state of tune doesn't seem to be mentioned in the picture above

170 PS in not mentioned anywhere. I was hoping for a re-tuned 2.0 litre engine with higher PS and definitely more torque.

I drove the compass and I can describe the drive as “lazy” and not fun.

Meridian is probably going to be worse.

See the screenshot and look at the power/torque curve. You can see 170PS on the Y axis.

Damn, you got an eye for details! Thats cool.

On a lighter note - So does segment first here mean, they are segment first in providing a lower powered engine!

LOL. I think segment first is 2.0L engine with 9 speed AT and front wheel drive.

The Kodiaq is AWD, the Fortuner is RWD or 4x4. So this is the only front wheel drive option in the 7 seater SUV premium segment

Re: India-bound Jeep 7-seater SUV, named Meridian

170bhp is on expected lines. Still disappointed. it would not be even as interesting as compass with added weight. Jeep should have done better. I think they will launch a 200bhp one next year. Anyway, this also looks to be a no-no for me and I will hold my kodiaq booking for now.

Re: India-bound Jeep 7-seater SUV, named Meridian

Does someone have neat infographic for other 6-7 seater cars that show the 2nd and 3rd row legroom space in mms?

I am not able to find such specific information and I really doubt if its better than Innova? Though its silly comparing this vehicle with Innova or Carens.

Re: India-bound Jeep 7-seater SUV, named Meridian

I am generally disappointed with all 7 seaters now. Jeep, Skoda etc are all charging a bomb and giving people movers rather than exciting cars to drive.

The cars may be feature rich but they must be exciting to drive. That’s a basic thing which most manufacturers are ignoring.

I am holding firm to my XUV 700 booking. Definitely seems a better overall package.

Dimensionally, the Meridan is longer and wider than an Innova Crysta
Length(4769mm v/s 4735mm)
Width(1859mm v/s 1830mm).

Innova is the taller one.
Height (1682mm vs 1795 mm)
