Very valid examples you have taken up, and if we add Vitara out here, all of these mentioned examples available in India is having the option of AllGrip. If it's too much for Maruti to introduce Jimny in India as it is sold abroad, they can always add the AllGrip feature as an option, atleast in Ignis. I always believed Ignis is an underrated car.

Per reviews, driving dynamics is not a forte of Jimny on the road, and it can't be your only car. On the trails and off the road is where it shines.

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

I have a huge fear, Maruti being what it has been, they might associate the impending S-presso as being derived from the genes of the Jimny (although completely disconnected). Would love to be proven wrong!!

Suzuki Jimny Confirmed for India: NDTV,

Possibly re-branded ( as the SUV will be redesigned) as GYPSY, the Indian version will be bigger ans stay under 4m in length.

In keeping it as a life style vehicle the SUV will be marketed through NEXA.

After consistently denying that it will bring the Jimny to us, Maruti Suzuki has finally relented.

the car we get will be based on the same platform, will share powertrain, transmission and components with the global Jimny Sierra

Pricing:
Quote:
The car will carry a relatively high local content and so expect pricing to be relatively aggressive - higher than the Vitara Brezza, but likely lower than and at par with the XL6 depending on the variant in question
Likely to be priced under ₹10 lakhs.

Manufacturing location:

Will be manufactured at SMC Gujarat. The SUV though exclusive for India, will be exported as other countries based on demand.

Time Frame:

Though it says end 2019, expect the SUV to be launched in second half of 2020.

All of the above conform to thE below article too:

"The larger reason for a possible rebranding is that the car we get is unlikely to be the exactly the same as the current global favourite. While the car we get will be based on the same platform, will share powertrain, transmission and components with the global Jimny Sierra, it will be bigger.

So how will the car be different to the global Suzuki Jimny? India will get a long wheelbase version of the Jimny Sierra - already a wider body version for international markets. The Suzuki Jimny Sierra is a 3-door car, and which is why the version that is being developed specially for this market will be a 5-door. Sources have shared with carandbike that the car will not be a lot longer than the Jimny Sierra's 3645 mm - so that it stays under four metres and retains the small car tax benefits. The new model will target two segments of buyers - the hardcore off-roader (with a soft-top 4WD variant) and the urban user (with optional 4WD and a 5-door hard top)."

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Now that is some good news. And looking at the way the article says, this car will be here to stay. My wish list would be atleast a complete safety kit with 6 airbags, TCS, ESP and crash worthiness which is doubtful as MSIL doesn't provide this even in its premium products. Eagerly waiting for this now.

NO!! NOOO!!! I thought my days of saving every penny were coming to an end. Damn it seems I need to continue saving! There seems to be a good reason coming for it!

Fingers crossed. All 20 of them!

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Firstly, launching a 5 Door variant is a no-brainer because with the Indian context 2 door variants will not be able to provide the volumes that Maruti is comfortable with. I doubt the statement of the launch happening within this calendar year, I mean chassis changes and testing etc would take some time and we are just a few months from the year end!

All that said, with the changing demographics in India maybe Maruti can launch the Jimny as it is in a limited edition avatar in parallel with the 5 Door variant being called a Gypsy. The Jimny would have my money no questions asked!

What a lovely piece of news to read
on a Monday!
I really love the Jimny.
The Thar better watch out once this comes in!
It ll be an instant hit all over India and I am sure we will see years of waiting lists.
If the Army and Police and other Forces and Govt Agencies get into the act then there will be further waiting lists.
The Tata Storme will also surely end up being replaced by this vehicle by our Armed forces.

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

5 doors and under 4 meters. So this will basically be a boxier and cooler Brezza.
Internationally Suzuki postponed the development of the 5 door variant because they are having trouble meeting the demands for the 3 door variant. This car is a global hot seller.

Some sources have told carandbike that the 4WD may not be offered from the start either, but will be launched within 6 months of the car making its Indian debut.
Stated right at the end of that article.

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Wow, even for city dwellers, this is a perfect tall boy option with actual SUV genes. If I were in market for a small car, I would hold my purchase for this. Maruti + SUV + sub 4m, what's more to ask?!

I hope it gets at least CVT or 4 speed AT and not AMT if it comes in automatic avatar.

You do realise this is a ladder frame chassis SUV sitting on solid axle suspension? The suspension differs from old time Jeeps in only one way, it has coil springs. Even the Thar has IFS. And the wheels are much smaller than the Thar. That means the ride is going to be hard compared to all the unibody compact SUVs that crowd our roads.

Also, it only has 100bhp/130Nm, which is puny compared to the competition.

Jimny is a big name because of its offroad prowess. There is no point getting excited about it as a city SUV. It is going to be very basic compared to other compact SUV.
