re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Shave 1cm and put their new 1.5 diesel in it and it becomes a small car It will be a nice package and will address its often mentioned shortcoming which is lack of torque.

It will be wise of Maruti to give that 1.5 diesel in Jimny as an option. It shouldn't be difficult when they engineer the 5 door India spec version.

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

For the Indian markets, I doubt they will get the 3 door version. The 5 door version looks more probable. In terms of pricing, on road price is bound to exceed 10L. I am guessing it will be sub 4m but the 1.5L petrol engine would negate the tax benefits.

Expecting the 3 door with the 660 cc engine and relatively less features priced at 7L would be wishful thinking in the current scenario.

Yeah, they can bring it at that price easily.

Gypsy's price balooned only when the Indian army orders stopped and it was put up as a made-to-order listing for the last few years before its production ended.

If Jimny achieves its purpose of being inducted in to the Indian Army, it can be reasonably priced.

With the slowdown putting a stress on the whole industry, it is time time the largest supplier to the Indian market stops its decade long skimming.

There are no 660 cc engines coming to India. Not now, not ever.

The 660 engine is Japan specific, because they have this concept called Kei car, which mandates a sub 660 cc engine. And all of Kei cars are turbocharged.

And that turbo 660 costs more to make than a Naturally Aspirated 1.0 Litre to manufacture. And the 660 cc R series engine produces 54 BHP without a turbo, and 64 with a turbo.

The 1000 cc celerio and wagon r have better output, and a better torque curve. It's a pointless engine for this country.

Maybe not from Maruti Suzuki, but my Tata Nano does have a 624cc engine!

On a serious note, there were speculations that to comply with BS6 emission norms, Maruti Suzuki may bring in their 660cc engines for the entry level models in India. But with the BS6 versions of cars already rolling out of MSIL plants in India ahead of the April 2020 deadline, it may just be a speculation and that's about it!!

Top gear review. Can't wait for the Indian variation to show up. I hope they do get it in some form or the other. Definitely a car that I am excited and eagerly waiting for. There are many in the USA who are pleading Suzuki to launch the Jimny over there.

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

The Jimny has its own fan following with no signs of diminishing as seen from the waiting periods of the current Jimny.

In fact there are petitions filed requesting Suzuki /Maruti to bring the SUV to India/ USA

India:

Quote:
This is a humble request to Maruti Suzuki to launch Jimny at the earliest. With all the love and respect for the vehicle and it's capabilities
Quote:
This is to requests & show the desire towards the product.
Quote:
Gypsy getting phased out, Maruti should bring in Jimny to India
USA:

Bring Suzuki Jimny to USA
Quote:
Open North American market to small 4WD cars under $16000

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Initial batch of Jimny's to come as CBU's, and be available in 2019?

Though the info, is for our neighboring country, the same can be safely assumed for India too.

Local manufacturing to happen in 2020.

Quote:
The auto manufacturer is now planning to bring it to the local market, which is certainly good news for the consumers. However, it will be interesting to see the introductory price of 4th generation Jimny in Pakistan as it has always been an overpriced vehicle in the country. According to the sources, it will be a completely built unit (CBU) of Jimny, which will hit the roads in the coming months

This confuses me even further? Pakistan has a market for the new 3 Door Jimny but India doesn't? Also, how will we get the CBU if we are not even getting the 3 Door variant or are we??

CBU will be the current Global Jimny.( this is an assumption and media too confirms a 2019 launch)

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Suzuki Jimny will come to India, but in 2021.

Quote:
Suzuki Jimny Will NOT Replace Maruti Gypsy In 2019
Presumably since it will be the 5 door version, design and testing will warrant that time frame.

Quote:
the fourth generation Jimny is also expected to be made longer than the model that is on sale in markets like Japan and the UK. By making it longer, Maruti Suzuki will carve more room inside the cabin for rear passengers, and might add rear doors as well to ease entry and exit
Quote:
The Gypsy was discontinued in March 2019 after more than 30 years of production and is expected to come with the K15b 1.5-litre petrol engine.
India will most likely get a 5-door version

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

On September 7th, midnight, there will be a public pooja at the Delhi Peace Arch. The public is invited. The originally planned sacrifice of a virgin Yamuna river carp that evening is cancelled as one could not be found. Instead, a random carp will be scolded vigorously and told to "stop being naughty". The faithful believe that this will will certainly usher in the production of the Jimny in India, as the naughtiness of Yamuna carp is thought, by many of the faithful, to be the last stumbling block to Indian production and sales of the Jimny.

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

Is it Jimny that is being talked of?

Maruti Suzuki MD:

Quote:
the company was considering to produce a third model of car at the Hansalpur, which is already producing Baleno and Swift.
We are preparing for capacity enhancement in Gujarat… The slowdown is not severe. We are planning to export more from Gujarat.

To start the third plant next year, we are preparing to hire.

re: Maruti to finally bring Jimny to India?

https://www.zigwheels.com/news-featu...me-soon/35014/

https://www.v3cars.com/news/confirme...-gypsy-in-2019

The Zigwheels article (dated 30.08.19) uses the V3Cars article (29.08.19) as the source. V3Cars says

Quote:
Maruti Suzuki has discontinued the Gypsy in India, and it has no plans to launch the Jimny right now as a replacement. The confirmation of the Jimny not coming to India comes from Maruti Suzuki’s senior director of engineering, CV Raman. In a recent interaction with V3Cars, Raman clarified that Maruti Suzuki has no plans to introduce the Jimny, or any of its derivative, in India in 2019.
The article mentions Jimny, or any of its derivative. It does mention that it will come in 2021 at the earliest.

What do you guys think of this latest news?
