Same here. My wife and I both have our own 2-wheelers for office commute as we stay closer to the office. And one car mostly for highway trips or long distance city trips or used during rains.

re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

I'm the sole driver (my son and daughter are novices) and we have 3 cars: 2 owned by me and one by my son, we all live under the same roof. We were a one car family till 2015 when my son wanted to a get a car so he and my daughter learnt driving and he got himself a Grand i10 AT Asta. I have a 2017 Honda City CVT and a manual 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS. I would have let the Elantra go but my daughter wanted me to retain that car for her use. We have no chauffeur.

There be a lot of Mumbaikars who haven't ridden a 2 wheeler nor own one. You seem to fit that stereotype. In B School, we had students from various parts of India. We South Indians were amused to find the reaction of Mumbaikars upon seeing us ride our motorcycles in the hills of Udupi with elan. Some of them eventually learnt how to ride on 2 wheels in Activas. The entire motorized 2 wheel thing was new to them.

OT: What's more, guys from Kerala and Coorg were exceedingly good at high speed cornering in the hills and on twisty roads. We're talking about sharp curves at 60 Kmph where the rear footrest scrapes the ground. Guys from Tamil Nadu and Andhra could only brake and negotiate curves slowly

re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

We have two cars at home - one used largely by me, and second, which is used by my wife and son, is usually chauffeur driven, and also doubles as a shuttle between my in laws place in the suburbs and our home.

re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

The number of cars keeps fluctuating between a minimum of 1 to a maximum of 3. My wife has her own car and my car keeps shuttling between my home and my parents home. And when my parents stay with me, they bring along their other car as well. My wife and dad have dedicated cars while I oscillate between a 2 wheeler and my car when its with me.

re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

This will be a very misleading poll. A "household" can have such diverse iterations based on the number of people/adults in the family, the place of residence (heart of the city/suburbs), their financial standing, their preferences (choosing not to own/drive), the occupations of the adults in the family.

It's fine if we just want to list if we have one or multiple cars in the family, but in its true sense, the poll won't give you trustworthy data.

One car and two scooters. The car is hardly used, only weekend trips to the mall once or twice a month. Of the 30000 kms covered by this diesel hatch in 7 years, more than 80% are Chennai to Kerala runs. Plan to use it till it serves me.

re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

3 cars(Jetta,Hexa,i10) and three two wheelers(all three are activa )

One car each driven by me,my dad and my mom while one two wheeler each ridden by me,my wife and my younger brother.

Jetta is used for going from home to work and vice versa only while Hexa is used primarily for out station trips and occasional city use. Activas are used for running errands in the city only.

re: Number of single-car vs multi-car households on Team-BHP

Currently 2 cars and 2 bikes. One car is my daily drive to work. The other one is used once or twice a week by dad. One bike is used by dad for daily errands. The other one was my daily ride before buying my car. Now its used only on weekends for short distances.

Always had 3-4 cars with 2 drivers till recently. Now only 2 cars without drivers and radio cabs for local, and taxis for factory runs.
