› The name harks back to the first bicycles jointly produced by company founders Václav Laurin and Václav Klement

› Second new ŠKODA model from the INDIA 2.0 project after the KUSHAQ SUV

› Saloon for the A0 segment complements the OCTAVIA and SUPERB, two highly regarded models in India



The second production model after the KUSHAQ from the INDIA 2.0 project spearheaded by ŠKODA on the Indian subcontinent will be known as the SLAVIA.

The new saloon for the A0 segment was named with the earliest days of ŠKODA AUTO in mind. Starting in 1896, one year after the founding of the company, Václav Laurin and Václav Klement successfully marketed their first, jointly developed bicycles under the SLAVIA name.

The coming new ŠKODA SLAVIA will once again set out to define a new era, this time on the Indian market.
There, the notchback model, which is due to be presented later this year, will complement the OCTAVIA and SUPERB saloons, which are highly regarded in India.

As per ACI the SLAVIA will be a successor to the current RAPID, but will be placed in a higher segment.

the Slavia would be the successor to the ageing Rapid sedan but won’t use the same nameplate or be a direct replacement.

Will be larger than the Rapid sedan
To be very well equipped
Will get two TSI turbo-petrol engine options

MotorBeam claims Rapid will continue under the Slavia, since the Slavia is bigger than it.

Looks like the initial plan was to price the Slavia at a premium and let the Rapid soldier on for some more time in the market.

But I think Skoda will seriously re-asses that strategy and replace the Rapid instead. Entry level segments don't take lightly to overpriced products! What's the use of premium pricing when dealers are forced to offer discounts of a lakh already within a couple of months of launch?

What I (personally) would like to see with the Slavia -

1. Competitive pricing. 1.0 priced against current benchmark products like the Verna and City 5th generation (with similar features on offer!)
2. Trademark European build, not cheap for India.
3. 1.5 TSi and DSG options to be called the vRS- in two variants, the top one being the Monte Carlo. Styled to distinguish itself at least slightly from the 1.0 offering.
4. 1.0 options of course for the mainstream numbers and compete with other cars in the segment with boring NA motors.
5. Sorted launch - no EPC failures at least this time around.

Really looking forward to this one! Sedans are a dying breed, and I personally prefer crossovers for their practicality - but very excited to see the prospect of a 150hp sedan below the 20L onroad price bracket once again.

Considering Slavia is bigger than current Rapid, skoda will be exiting the smaller full size sedan segment then?

Better strategy to rake in the moolah would be to continue with a bare bones Rapid 1.0TSI variant (Rider Plus/Ambition - 8 -10L) and Slavia with all the upper variants and choice of 1.0/1.5TSI MT/AT (11L onwards)

I doubt that's going to happen they've constantly said this new Sedan will be a segment above the Rapid, and given the dimensions of testing vehicle spied, they will find it difficult to price it in the same segment as the existing Rapid. VW group loves it's profit margins and they will not compromise with it. The time to do that would've been with Taigun after seeing lukewarm response Kushaq but that didn't happen.

I'm estimating that this new car's 1.5 dsg top model will probably go upto 23-24 lacs competing with Elantra. And as crazy as the price sounds, I would still be interested as long as the interiors match the premium feel of current gen octavia. If the interior quality is like the current Kushaq, I will be sprinting away at Usain Bolt's speed

His tweet reads " .... that sets out to define a new era in the Indian market". So the hints are pretty clear. Slavia is going to sit above all of them. Only time would tell whether that indeed is a "robust" move or not

I hope they are not as overconfident as they were with the Kushaq. This car should be pitched against the other C segment sedans without a need for the premium tag.
