This would be my choice as well, especially the Fabia for being over-rated. Skoda Auto's service and customer relationship is appaling to say the least. There is a whole thread on this on this site.

The Palio is a very sturdy car, done in by the poor image of FIAT which led to it being under-rated.

Over rated -

1) All new Honda City - drive it vis-a-vis its peers and you would know, not even basic accessories like mudflaps are included!!! and arrogant "Honda is a Honda" attitude of dealers

2) Skoda Octavia Ambiente - no alloys, no leather, no climate control, antique mp3 player - 10 year old design and a low bhp engine with poor service - still thought of as a style quotient

3) Skoda Fabia - low power engine - not fun to drive and bad service

4) Civic base model - E MT for its price does not have any of the goodies one would want in this car. Probably they should just have S
MT and V MT

Under rated -

1) Chevrolet Optra LT Petrol - a inside sliding sunroof which comes in this car is such a luxury that the next car which has is ~14 lakh Skoda Octavia L&K - engine is smooth, built quality is good, leather interiors, alloys - boot can open using your key (even civic does not offer that), climate control, class chrome linings, all accessories that you may need included and all for less than what Honda City fully loaded would cost. If mileage is such a big concern GM offers CNG conversion using their approved vendor at 29000 and it does not void warranty. Own this car to know what it has to offer you. Forgot to mentioned - cash less ownership plan of GM. Also - GM won't go anywhere - US government wouldn't let it.

2) Chevrolet Optra LT Diesel - Same reasons as petrol. The lack of sunroof is more than compensated by a powerful 2.0 engine which has 314 nm of torque! It has such a gem of an engine that is better than even Skoda's octavia and laura, jetta etc. You would need to shell out around 120,000 extra for this.

3) Fiat Linea - Petrol and Diesel - Emotion Pack and Dynamic Pack

4) Ford fiesta diesel - fully loaded one!

Hmmm.. is being overpriced the same as being overrated? that seems to be the trend here... specifically for ANHC.

I find the Scorpio quite overrated. Its cramped (for an SUV) and sways like an elephant. Yet, most people buy it because "its a scorpio" without understanding that being an SUV it will behave like an SUV and not a sedan. To me, that makes it overrated. No fault of the vehicle though.

Underrated, maybe Cedia. And i blame HM for that.

you have given the answer yourself buddy. every person who buys a scorpio knows that its a SUV & it will sway, unlike a sedan. but his needs from his vehicle are different from a sedan owner. now, can you stuff 8 guys in your sedan? will your sedan offer the high ground clearance & high seating position of the scorpio? NO.

I think the thumb rules are:
-if you own the car, it is under rated....if you don't, it is over rated!
-Skoda is not the TBHP flavour these days, ergo it is over rated.
-Fiat is the under dog, hence under rated.
-Old is better than new, so the ANHC gets it in the neck, so does the Zen!
Maybe

Most overrated - Swift : it is a good car to drive, but can't say it is outstanding - it is cramped, you can feel the road imperfections while driving, and feels flimsy - may be I will rephrase it "not built to world class standards!"
Most underrated - Getz : one of the smoothest car I had ever driven, with spacious interiors, non controversial looks, decent fuel efficiency - in all, I would say a very sober car for all those who wanted a comfortable car. May be it's price tag killed it.

PS - I own a Palio, and can't say is under-rated : all the people immediately recognise the name and say it is a solid car; but the company blew its chances by not attending to the niggling issues. and, fiat lover don't care about other cars nor either way about any other car!!

most overrated in indeed scorpio .give that it looks great but handling and braking is pathetic and at times dangerous .I know multiple cases where scorpios owners met terrible accidents and narrowly escaped the the grand road to heaven

most underated is of course the stallions owned by force motors .They could easily give mahindras and tatas run for their money iff they improve their presence

Underrated: Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
Although its recognised on this forum well but in general public opinion it is highly disregarded.

Overrated: Hyundai i10
Although a nice little car for me is a little overrated and overpriced.

Fully agree with you!

But here is my C segment under rated car -

Suzuki Baleno - except for the seating position / seats, could not find anything out of place - for that price. May be Maruti was too busy selling small cars!

In between Small Cars & C segment (don't what to call these cars - and I love to own them both!) - both are under rated hugely :-

1. Ford Fusion - what do you call this - sedan, hatchback, estate.....?
- does everything you want from a car and more! Even after getting a diesel heart, things did not look up. Liked the red coloured one (with black rub strips) every time I saw it!

2. Chevrolet SRV - can't really call it a hatchback! - runs more like a missile - saw a blue coloured one with modified exhausts which appeared to be good enought to give Lancers a run for its money!!

Agree here but at what cost? I heard its FE is horrendous. Remember indian consumers always want a balance between performance and fuel consumption

Overrated:

1. Mahindra Scorpio. I don't know why people buy it. It corners (actually, turns) like a boat, needs to be coaxed into coming to a halt, it's extremely uncomfortable, has 'goodies' like cruise control that make no sense in India whatsoever, it's too big for the city and then it tries so hard to look butch but it just doesn't!

2. Hyundai i10. What's the big deal, honestly? Its just about okay! It takes you to the shops and then it takes you back home. It's a half hearted car! It's not very spacious, not very powerful, not good looking at all, doesn't corner well and the brakes will stop you. Just. Yes i know, it's reasonably priced and compact and everything, but why? We have the A-Star and it's fantastic!

Underrated:

1. Chevrolet SR-V. Now this car is a looker. It's absolutely gorgeous and beautiful! Has a great motor as well but I despise the gearbox. It's a complete let down. Otherwise, it's fantastic. Handles well, brakes well, goes fast and feels great. Wonder why it didn't click. It could be the price which was around 7-9 lakhs. But then again we have the Fabia and the i20 and the Jazz, and all of them are doing reasonably well, the i20 in particular! Maybe it was introduced a bit too early in the market?

2. Ford Fusion. I have no idea what went wrong with the Fusion. It's spacious, comfortable, peppy and quick, great ground clearance for the martian roads and looks, err, good I suppose. Ford has a decent after sales and service record as well. It was priced just about right too. Whats more, it got a diesel motor in time as well! Sad that it didn't click!

3. Ford Mondeo: What an amazing car, the Mondeo is! It's a superb car. It was amazing to look at and to drive, it was amazingly comfortable and luxurious and had stellar performance. It was priced a little on the higher side but then again, the Laura is too! What happened here? I can't seem to point a finger at anything wrong with this car. Ford should have tried a little harder to revive this gem. Introducing the V6 motor would have been a good idea, perhaps.

4. Maruti Baleno. Brilliant car this. Spacious, comfortable, had a rev-happy motor as well, drives like a charm and handles brilliantly. At 9 lakhs, it was a bit overpriced for its time, especially when the Ikons and Accents had the cash registers ringing. And when Maruti slashed the prices, it was a bit too late to revive its fortunes.

5. Mitsubishi Lancer Cedia. What a brilliant piece of engineering this car is! I remember when I took it for a test drive, I almost turned the key when the engine was on. It was that silent! Great engine, although it shouldn't have been de-tuned for India. The suspension too was messed around with a bit for India but it had a chassis handcrafted by God himself! Despite the huge slash in prices, it never worked for HM. I reckon that HM killed it.

people buy it for its engine & looks. if you havent till now, go for a test drive of the mHawk. but do not expect it to turn into corners like your civic. there are some other things the civic cannot do but the scorpio can. different people, different needs, you know.
