Re: Skoda Kushaq | A Close Look & Preview

Looks like Skoda has silently revised the ground clearance to 155mm as per the above infographic?

Was mentioned as 188mm during the first preview in March. Can we take it that 188 was the unladen GC and 155 is the laden GC?

Old one for reference -

That colour shade on the left looks smashing. What colour is it? Usually I go Ga Ga on Black, but this time, the chrome contrast and all those lines are not doing magic

It's called carbon steel.

It is the same carbon steel color available in Rapid, Polo, and Vento range. It looks good on them but very good on Kushaq. I think surrounding and rain is what it makes this color stand out in the picture. They should have gone for the quartz grey colour available in Karoq instead. That is awesome colour and looks much better than this.

The GC part needs clarity as previously it was mentioned 188 mm and this one shows 155mm.

Also, this tweet in the link is now deleted just like the Evo insta story. Cannot see the logic behind the secrecy and hype Skoda thinks they are creating.
There is no secrecy and hype. This is a code of conduct. The journalists are embargoed to publish the review till a set date so that all journos get a fair chance.

The media drive is spread over a few days. Without this embargo the journos on first day would get unfair advantage and their review would get more views. So to make it level playing field all media is not allowed to publish details till all journos drive the car and get time to write their reviews.

Crossovers , will they be able to maintain 188mm laden? I doubt, because something's got to give under the additional weight. There is a similar concern with the new Safari as well, I guess we'll get to know soon.

IMHO, using terms like HDI, which is just a jargon thrown to make it sound like a cool statement with heavy words, actually ends up eroding trust of your well informed audience who knows HDI PCB are just normal PCB's already used heavily everywhere.

True that! As Axe77 said, if they're confident the new and improved DQ200 is reliable, they should back it up with unconditional warranty. And while they're at it, offer owners of cars with the older, inferior DQ200 boxes like me a free upgrade to show that they actually care!

Re: Skoda Kushaq | A Close Look & Preview

Contrary to the general sentiment in the forum, IMO, for many buyers, bigger size does not directly translate to a better car or a car they are willing to pay more for. I think there is a segment of buyers (specifically young urban women professionals) who want the higher seating position and visibility that an SUV offers - however find that sub-10 lakh compact SUVs do not offer the kind of aesthetics, sophistication and feel-good factor they seek. Yet, they do not want a large car because of loss of maneuverability and parking issues. Price is not the major factor for these folks, as they have high disposable incomes - a lakh or two here or there is not an issue for them, as long as they get exactly what they want.

I have many women colleagues in my office who really like VW/Skoda designs for the clean lines, proportionate appearance, quality of in-cabin materials and elegant Euro looks they admire. Almost all of them went in for a Polo GT TSI 1.2 in the last few years. For these folks, Hyundai i20s and Maruti Balenos did not make the cut, since they had a keen eye for detail and found the light build, garish and inconsistent design elements and excessive Chrome to be a put off. Some of them are enthusiastic drivers too, and liked the sense of power and smoothness the GT TSI 1.2 offered. These folks as a group tend to influence each other's purchase decisions extensively, even across cities, through Social Media.

I know many of them are looking to upgrade, they want a slightly larger car with good visibility, similar clean, uncluttered designs, and drivetrain power and smoothness. However, they do not want something as large as a typical mid-size SUVs. They have been keenly following the Kushaq/Taigun launches and many have made up their mind to upgrade. They rejected the new Creta and Seltos outright - only based on "lack of consistent design ethic" and sophistication - most did not even test drive these cars.

I believe Skoda and VW need to identify and market to this segment actively and tap into it, as it is growing segment and many buyers here are likely to be lifelong customers once they are satisfied by the brand and also have high disposable incomes and are upwardly very mobile. The trick is to do this without losing the Macho male segment, who do not want to buy ladies' cars. Skoda seems to be making the right, "simply clever" moves here - while Seltos purely went after Badass men, and VW seem to be again going a bit Alpha for the Taigun with their "Hustle" line, Skoda is positioning this car as the "King" - with the Strength, Valor and Chivalry, that stands by the owners' side always! A clever positioning that appeals to women, while also not putting off men.

Another observation - The catalogue says the inside front door to door dimension is 1450 mm. This is identical to what I had mentioned on another post about the New Creta. I had measured the Creta myself in person. Assuming both measurements are taken the same way, this is turning out to be interesting in terms of interior space.

Great point and very well explained

Aesthitics and smoothness will be USP of Kushaq, and looking at Venue sales numbers - this should be a great success too, unless VW/Skoda go overly wrong with pricing.
