It's clear that this is almost as good as completely shutting down everything, but even Chevy still has decent service centers, hopefully Ford too will continue its services.

I am guessing that only one showroom per metro will survive in the end.

What happens to new bookings? And what about the Ecosport facelift?

re: Ford to wrap up India operations

We had to sell our GM Beat when GM closed the operations although it was a fantastic car. When we thought of a replacement, Ford was one company in mind. We had dropped the idea considering if it can happen with GM, it can surely happen with ford.

Things common are the impending launch of a new car. GM was about to launch a new generation Beat CS sedan while Ford was testing the ecosport facelift.

Feel sad for the employees and people involved in earning a livelihood.

On the other hand, this is an opportunity for other car makers to fill in the void and for new manufacturers like Tesla to enter the market.

Ford leaving India is indeed a loss. But i suppose they brought it upon themselves.

I have a feeling Mahindra could take over the Chennai plant considering their supply constraints and the fact that they have their R&D centre next door

re: Ford to wrap up India operations

Although Ford would be required to support existing customers as per local regulations, I'm sure service quality, warranty claims, availability of parts and spares may likely take a beating! Just being practical here!

On the other hand, anyone willing to take a calculated risk may now be able to pick a driver's car for a steal.

However, the company will retain its engine plant in Sanand, Gujarat and continue to service its products in India. Sources said that the company would continue to sell its marquee Ford Mustang and Ford Endeavour in India.

re: Ford to wrap up India operations

Very sad moment, not cause I own a year old Ecosport, but cause it is the mistake of Ford India's Management. And because of this, the Ford Employees will be without a job.
Ford India just lacked any effort, launching Figo and Aspire was a small effort but not enough of it.
Feature deletion/Shuffling, totally unplanned product portfolio, hopeless market research.

It's official now. Ford India just announced that the company is ceasing vehicle operations in India for domestic sales. However it will continue exporting from Sanand.

re: Ford to wrap up India operations

Just read the news. I remember still being in school when the Ford Escort was launched. It was quite an eye catcher along with the Opel Astra. Both GM and Ford are now history in India. Did own a 1.6 Ford Ikon and it was awesome to drive. Shame but the writing is on the wall - Asian manufacturers will thrive in Asia.

It is a loss to Indian Automotive market and not just Ford employees, it is the enthusiasts who are at the loosing end as well. Ford India exit just says one thing, we Indians doesn’t have awareness about good cars and sorry for the rant.
