Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

Mod Note: Our Honda Elevate Preview has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Honda is working on a new compact SUV for the Indian market, and the latest reports suggest that it could be launched in the first half of 2023.

Honda plans to enter a segment that has been dominated by products like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Skoda and Volkswagen have also entered the fray in recent times, while Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have similar products in the pipeline.

The new Honda SUV is expected to share its underpinnings with the fifth-gen City. It could be similar to the N7X concept that was revealed in Indonesia in 2021.

While details of the new model are scarce, the SUV could get petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrain options.

<Rant>We have been hearing these from many years. Unless they actually release something, no point pinning hopes. They have a ready product in HRV since years which could have easily gone against koreans but only they know which auspicious occasion the wait is for. Just release it with the City engines(both NA and eHV now) and people will flock to their showrooms. But no, we will just wait till crossover wave dies. </Rant>

re: Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

It's high time Honda releases a cross-over capable of providing competition to the Korean twins and more recently, the VW cousins.

There are many users of Honda City, Jazz and Amaze who now want to shift to cross-overs but can't find a reliable car that performs like a Honda in this segment. The unsafe Koreans, the thin-metal Marutis and the Germans with uncertain ASS has left a huge blue ocean for Honda.

I only have one reaction for this :

They are too late to the party imo. The new product has to be revolutionary in terms of features/pricing/quality etc because by then the Korean siblings would also be ready with their updates/facelifts.

The bare minimum Honda should do is match Kia/Hyundai with features & Pricing.. If Honda skimps on features or price it higher, this will be bomb.

re: Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

Please do it Honda!!

They can reduce costs by sharing platform with the City, perhaps.

Expectations from the car-
1. Safer than the Koreans and possibly the Germans
2. Feature price wise match at least the VAG twins
3. Both the 1.5 Petrol and eHEV pwertrains on offer
Honda reliability is expected

If however, MSIL-Toyota launch their vehicles first, Honda will have to do something big; perhaps, the eHEV will make it an attractive offer.

Hoping for the best; the more options in the market the better for us, the consumers.

Honda India is like the Internet Explorer of the automobile industry. Slow to process and react to any situation.

re: Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

This is a golden opportunity for Honda India to make a turnaround.

SUVs are ruling the market and thier CEO admitted that they don't have a SUV to compete.

I agree that Honda is late to the party, but so are Toyota and Maruti. We will be seeing a Creta Rival from these 3 giant brands and we expect them to be different from each other.

While we don't know how the actual cars will be, one thing I can guarantee is that they'll make sure the Korean Twins Weakness are highlighted.

I don't want to buy an unsafe Creta & Seltos. If these SUV from Honda is well built (Which i am sure will be), it's win win for Honda. Being Honda it'll be Spacious, Practical, Reliable. There might be a Turbo Petrol Option this time, and Hybrid. Powertrain will take the Efficiency Rating to higher level. Only Equipment list is a question, but since this will be based on City and we all know how loaded the City is, i expect this Honda SUV to have most of the features of not all.

Unless Honda prices it at a premium (1 lakh above rivals), this has success written all over it.

Better late then never ! (Almost seemed never). Not only NA PETROL Engine , this time they’ll need to up the anti with Turbo petrol engines too for cutting into rivals market share. Being conservative isn’t going to work for Honda this time. Indian market (read customers) are far too evolved and aware of their engineering capabilities displayed globally so anything below par will be rejected like brv and mobilio were. Oh before anything else stop sticking that after market Infotainment system on your cars!

re: Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

Here are my 2 cents on the general reluctance or delay in launching seemingly 'fit for India' models, already running in other countries.

Over assessment/ market research/ 'shubh muhrat' maybe, so that they dont get wrong/ make the most of the initial investment.

Am all ears to listen to others. Have a good week ahead!

Honda released their 1.5 diesel engines at the time buyer preference started shifting towards petrol.

They will release their CSUV when buyers start preferring sedans again.

Would that be curtains on the WR-V. I for one am considering the WR-V diesel or even the Amaze diesel. I have never been a diesel guy and want to have one if possible. With an SUV coming up, I fear WR-V may get the boot.

If we remove the 3 star safety rating for a moment, the Korean twins have almost everything one needs in a car. The top end models comes loaded and feels awesome. The wow factor in the car is unmatched.

Having said that, now let's consider the 3 stars.

I'll call them as luxury toys, in that case. They are not Rs 5L car. They cost almost 20L on-road.

And they have just touched 3 star - borderline 2, I'll say. Even the Heartect-based Ertiga scored more points than these toys.

re: Honda's new SUV for India | EDIT: Named Elevate

There is no high time with Honda anymore. They are already on the bottom of the points table. This SUV will be no game changer as the market is already loaded with many options. And, this is most likely not happening, this is in all likelihood another Jimny moment from Honda. No one is really taking them seriously now.
