Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

Just one sipper at home: my 17-year old Maruti Zen. 14-16 kmpl in the city and a little over 20 kmpl on the highways. It will easily cover over 600 kms on a tankful which I am thankful for when I travel from Bangalore to Kerala.

My remapped Ecosport diesel returns around 15-16kmpl in city and around 20kmpl on the highways, which i think is pretty good for a diesel if not the best.

Used MY2015 Superb TDI DSG

New used car, so still experimenting!

Mostly driven outside city. Displayed on MID 20kmpl, averaged over 4000km. AC at 25deg, speed below 120, normal BPCL diesel.

The best one I got was from pune to khopoli 29kmpl, which settled at 25 after reaching mumbai.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

My Honda City CVT (Petrol) returned 21.57 kmpl on a highway run from Bangalore to Thanjavur. I stayed at a constant 80 engaging cruise control. I was truly surprised by this mileage.

Tata Nexon 1.5 Diesel Manual XZ+ 2019

I love the numbers on this car! City driving with a light foot gives 18 kmpl on an average. Our typical 200 km round trip to a location called Palghar consisting of a huge chunk of a national highway driving with a bit of city and proper ghat driving sprinkled on top provides 20- 22 kmpl in my hands. I cruise between 80-120 kmph on the highway depending on road and traffic conditions and go all out on the ghats. When my father drives on the same route, he tends to cruise between 80-100 kmph and easily extracts 24-26 kmpl and blesses Tata for producing such a capable engine with brilliant efficiency. It's really tough to restrain myself from giving it the beans every single time just because I want to maintain fuel efficiency. Because when you floor the pedal, the bonnet rises, torque steers the car and it goes like a madlad

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

2021 Ecosport 1.5 S TDCi is not exactly the most frugal car out there, but clicks close to 1000 kms on highways with 52L tank capacity. When driven below 100kmph, she turns 20-22kmpl and with proper throttle modulation(which requires lot of patience), the mileage goes as high as 24 kmpl. City figures are not bad either, 15-16kmpl with moderate traffic, never seen the MID figure dropping below 14 kmpl.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

My Ford Aspire Titanium TDCI has run around 43k kms in 5+ years. In the city it easily returns 16-17 kmpl where as in long runs its around 23-24 kmpl at least. On a tankful 42L , the minimum i get is 650+ kms with one mark remaining.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

Most of the cars I have bought and owned have been fuel sippers. My daily usage is above average and naturally I prefer cars that are economic to run.

Though I have used dozens of cars over the decade, I would like to share the most recent 3 cars of mine, which I have accurate tankful to tankful data. I firmly believe MIDs are over optimistic.

These are T2T Actual fuel efficiency data over 40k km on Altroz and storme and over 20k km on Kwid.

I realized a few years ago from my storme experience that ARAI claim of the manufacturer can be easily exceeded with gentle driving.

Storme Varicor 400 156PS/ 400Nm - ARAI claim 13 kmpl. But if you maintain 110-120 on highways, it easily returns 15 kmpl and over 11 kmpl even in city traffic. My best was 18 kmpl. Pretty amazing for a 2+ tonne tall SUV.

Renault Kwid 1.0 67PS / 91 Nm - ARAI claim 21.5 kmpl

My best was 26.2 kmpl

Tata Altroz 1.5 Revotorq 90PS / 200Nm - ARAI claim - 25 kmpl

Consistently returns 22+ kmpl if driven gently. My best has been 27.6 kmpl

Honorable mentions from our cars -

Tata Harrier 2.0 - Easy 18 kmpl of driven gently, consistently 15 kmpl Overall

Skoda Rapid 1.6TDI / Polo GT 1.6 TDI - best mix of everything- 24 kmpl when gentle

Chevrolet Beat 1.0 tcdi - 25 kmpl at 80 kmph, 17+ kmpl on city

Swift 1.3 FGT MJD - 18 in city, easy 25 kmpl on highways

Ciaz 1.3 VGT MJD - 16+ in city, easy 24+ on highways

All actual fuel efficiency figures

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

I own a Skoda Superb 2012 model which has a 2 litre diesel engine with DSG gearbox. It cosnistently averages 13 kmpl in the city and on the highway I have got up to 28 km/l. I drove from Mumbai to Chennai last year with some places having high traffic and this also includes going through 25 kms of badly paved interior roads in Bangalore. I got 24/1 kmpl for this 1366 km trip. Enclosed is the photograph of the speedo.

2019 Ford Ecosport Titanium+ TDCi

I think this car is a very good fuel sipper. I'm a sedate driver, so I see 23-24 kmpl on highways. That translates to more than 1000 kms on a tank of fuel. In the city, I see 18-20 kmpl, which I think is very decent.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

Our 2017 Nissan Sunny petrol is my go-to workhorse for long drives, mainly because of the ease of driving and the sheer lugging power (often, it seems as though I'm driving an automatic). The engine is still young (hasn't yet hit the 30k mark on the odometer) and continues to return fairly good fuel efficiency figures.

I use the Fuelio app to log visits to the filling station, and a quick look at the timeline from Jan 2022 to current shows a low of 11.55kmpl and a high of 19.37kmpl. I tend to keep to 80-100 kmph on the highways, only going above while overtaking, and the air conditioning tends to be in use all the time. The vehicle sees more of urban running and the occasional long distance, and I'm always open to suggestions that will help improve overall fuel efficiency.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

Nexon Petrol MT

Mainly used within the city, where in bumper to bumper traffic it delivers nearly 10-12km/L but on the highway at a crusing speed of around 90-95 it delivers near 22km/L. Cruise control plays a crucial role in FE at Highway.
