Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

2019 Suzuki Swift Petrol MT 100% a/c on with 16.5k kms on the odo.

City - Around 15.5kmpl to and fro 62 kms on a office run. Morning office commute duration is 1.10 hours while evening it is 1.2 to 2 hours on a average to reach home. Best I have got is around ~17 kmpl but for weekend inter city travel with low traffic.

Highway- Never had a chance to drive on the highway so far.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

My kinda thread

After my disastrous experience with the 2010 Corolla AT here (Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here). I went the diesel way starting November 2018.

S-Cross 1.3 from Nov 2018 to Sep 2022

Lowest FE: 14.26 km/l ( 543 km in 5 months between April and September 2020)
Best FE: 24.27 km/l ( Madras-Trichy-Madras roundtrip)
Commute FE (20 km urban round trip and city-ish runs): 16-17 km/l
Commute FE (80 km suburban round trip with speeds 30-80 kph): 21-23 km/l
Highway FE: 21-24 km/l
Best tank throughput: 1015 km at 24.12 km/l with a 80K service being done
Lifetime FE: 21.2 km/l
Evaluation distance: 85000 km

Alcazar 1.5D from Sep 2022 onwards

Lowest FE: 16.84 km/l (mostly agressive highway driving)
Highest FE: 23.41 km/l (odd time suburban commute + 300 km efficient highway drive)
Commute FE (80 km suburban round trip with speeds 30-80 kph): 18-21 km/l
Highway FE: 17-19 km/l
Lifetime FE: 18.93 km/l
Evaluation distance: 20000 km

Few observations across the 2 diesel cars I've owned:
  • The Hyundai 1.5D has been most efficient driven at mid 40s in 4th gear and mid 60s in 6th gear. So the best conditions has been mild-moderate traffic where you can't press on, but can maintain ~ 60-70 kph. Pure open road driving doesn't result in the best efficiency.
  • To extract maximum FE, pedal modulation is the way to go. Cruise control is not. Am a heavy cruise user
  • AC is mostly around 24-25 C, with some ocassions set at 23. The temperature setting has no bearing on the FE.
  • Xtragreen had no effect on FE on the MJD. Not tried on the Hyundai 1.5D.
  • Fuel from Shell had no advantage. Mostly stuck to regular PSU pump, COCO, Reliance (highway only).
  • Alcazar has been obsessively on COCO diet, barring 2 off fuelups out of 33.
  • I am not a slow driver. I average 60-90 km/h (not absolute speed) on regular 4-6 lane highways, not counting expressway.

Our 2015 Swift Dzire v2 petrol consistently returns 21-22 in mixed city/highway drives with AC on. Lowest seen was 19kmpl.

2022 June Maruti Suzuki Ignis Zeta AMT. Using this car as a beater car for my office commute and local city drive. The maximum radius of usage is 52 km from home and the odometer reading is 12513 km.
The average speed of car till now is 36 kmph

The instantaneous mileage is 19.3, which is the average for the entire 12513 km (I have not reset it so far).

The average tank to tank mileage is:

One can easily get over 20 kmpl if driven carefully. This is with AC on condition. Never took this car for a long drive.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

My Nissan Kicks Diesel, which I was very lucky to pick-up given that BS4 diesels were on their last leg in India, returns a very healthy FE be it plains, traffic or mountains.

Recently I went from Mumbai to Manali with some detours in between. The total distance covered was 5300kms and it returned a healthy FE of 18 kmpl which included bumper to bumper traffic and driving in the mountains as well. Also, it includes one day of travel from Manali to Kasol and back. While on multiple Mumbai-Jaipur runs it has returned FE between 19-20 kmpl. In Mumbai’s traffic I get around 15 kmpl which is more than decent.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

My 2014 Honda City iDTEC, which has run close to 160k Kms (158k Kms to be precise), is a fuel sipper and gives no less than 17-18 Kmpl if driven in city traffic. While on highways, it gives 22-25 Kmpl depending on how I drive.

And, during my highway drive of 500 Kms in the month of Feb, I did get the FE of 24.5 Kmpl and the speeds I did was 80-100 Kmph and diesel I filled was worth ₹2000 and ran on 100% AC.

And, during my last drive to Warangal a couple of weeks ago, I got an FE of 23.3 Kmpl and ran 237 Kms on fuel worth ₹1000.

On the other hand, this car runs on 195/60R15 tyres and despite upsizing the tyres, the car still gives good FE.

My experience with this car is "Fill it Shut it Forget it".

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

All my cars would fit in this criteria.

2004 Alto Lxi City 15+, Highway 15+ with 100% A/C still with me, 1.3L kms on odo.
2008 Honda City Gxi City 13+, Highway 18+ upto 26kmpl with 100% A/C, still with me, 1.8L kms on odo.
2010 Ford Figo Exi TDCi City 18+, Highway 22+ with 100% A/C. Sold due to high maintenance in 2015, 1.3L kms on odo
2015 Honda Mobilio iDTEC City 17+, Highway 26+ with 100% A/C still with me, 1.7L kms on odo.
2016 Mercedes B class bought last year City 14+, Highway 22+ with 100% A/C still with me, 90k kms on odo.

I guess Alto gives a poor efficiency in the highway due to higher speed for the 800cc motor. I generally drive pretty normally, gradually building speed over 1/2 km or so and tend to maintain the speed without too much unplanned braking or acceleration. It also helps that I know the roads I drive on pretty well. Usual Bangalore to Tirunelveli drive takes ~7-8 hrs, Bangalore to Chennai takes ~4 hrs.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

My nearly 20 year old VW Passat B5.5 1.9TDI 130 bhp stock.
Has nearly 200k kms (123k miles) on the clock While a decade ago, I used to thrill by maxing the speedo, my driving has mellowed over the years save for the rare Italian Tune Up. My car yields insanely high mileage while driven with a light foot. Recently I was delighted to see 99.9 mpg on the MID and upon checking the manual, I found that it is the maximum readout! While I regularly used to see 65+ mpg , I was pleasantly surprised by this display. Posting a pic i saved for posterity ; I had done about 315 miles till then and i got a tankful mileage of 34.6 kmpl! I regularly see about 12 kmpl in the city. All the figures are with AC, and it seemed to make no difference if the AC was shut off while I checked this long back.
It is a still a fine looking car and has aged well like old wine ; and i still turnaround while walking away from my parked car, so i guess the love story plays on !

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

Honda Jazz Diesel VMT (Sold Recently) - Used to give me a mileage of 21-23 kms in Chennai City Traffic and a mileage of 25- 27 Kms on Highways.

Current ride Kia Seltos D Auto - Gives me a mileage of ~17 Kms in City and ~24 Kms on Highways. Needs some more chemistry to be built between both of us to extract more

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

1. Ford Aspire TDCi Diesel

City ~17 kmpl and Highway ~25 kmpl depending on how I drive. The highway mileage is also on the mostly single lane roads of Kerala (Trivandrum to Thrissur is my normal long commute).

I'd assume the Aspire would return much higher figures on the kind of vast expressways found in states like TN and MH.

Still, I'm happy with these figures because of the grunt on offer from the 1.5 TDCi motor, making overtakes a breeze.

2. Tata Tiago Revotron Petrol

City ~13 kmpl and Highway ~18 kmpl. I did not expect the Tiago to return the same kind of impressive figures that most lightweight Marutis offer, so it doesn't come as a surprise to me. I normally take the Aspire for long commutes and the Tiago is used as a safe little city car now with low running, so the FE numbers compared to the diesel doesn't matter much to me.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

Maruti S-Cross 1.3 [ 2015 ~ 2022 --> 175K] feeding on Regular Diesel + LiquiMoly Additive every 5K . I had stopped using LiquiMoly and switched to XtraGreen Diesel by Indian Oil once it was widely available.

- My Daily Drive Pre-Covid [+130KM] has been a mix of City + Highway and the S-Cross easily returned 19 ~ 20 KMPL in heavy office traffic .
- Post Covid exclusive city drives returned 17 ~ 18 KMPL
- Long - Highway trips returned 23 ~ 24 KMPL easily

Honda Civic 1.8 CVT [ 2019 ~ ]

- Exclusive within the City : 13 ~ 14 KMPL [ I drive with a light - pulsating foot ]. Occasional spirited drives / or long idling time would drop the FE to 12KMPL.

- Long - Highway trips returned 16 ~ 18 KMPL . Best FE was achieved on an early morning trip to amritsar ~ 18KMPL and the longest drive has been Delhi-Amritsar-Srinagar-Delhi with overall FE of 15.5 KMPL for 2200KM.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

A very surprising entry: Tata Zest and that too a Petrol 2015 model with ~75K on Odo.

Recently, I did a Noida-Kandaghat (Himachal) Noida trip of 776 km trip with 2 adults & 2 kids with truck load of luggage.
MID: 24.1 kmpl
Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here-mid.jpg

DTE of 128km after driving 776 km on single tankful:
Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here-dte.jpg
Total Range: 776 + 128 = 904 km on single tank

Earlier in Oct-19, I did a Noida -> Gangotri -> Badrinath -> Noida trip with 4 adults & 2 kids & full luggage.
Distance: 1585 kms, Petrol: 91.4 L
Tankful to Tankful Economy: 1585/91.4 = 17.34 kmpl

Occasionally I do achieve upto 29 kmpl on Noida Eway:

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

I took my 2019 Ford Ecosport petrol auto out on a 600km round trip and i was surprised with the relatively better FE on highway than i expected.

Here is after half of the trip i did and topped up the tank.

Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here-20230407_150401.jpg

Here it is after i returned. As you can see still half the tank left.

Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here-20230407_150429.jpg

But it took only 100kms of city driving and a hour or so of idle to finish the rest of the tank.

Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here-20230407_150510.jpg

Only 395kms since i topped the tank full in first pic. Required 43.38 ltrs in last pic. Abysmal overall of 9 kmpl considering 600km was highway driving with max speed between 110-120 kmph.

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

My ride is not a frugal fuel sipper when compared to the Ignis / Sunny / Amaze but does a commendable job of fuel consumption despite its age and lineage. Presenting the 10 year old Skoda Yeti Diesel (2x4). I consistently get about 12 km per litre of diesel during city 'peak traffic' trips and around 19 to 20 kmpl on highway. Bang for the buck in my opinion

Re: Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here

Baleno has been really good with FE numbers. Usual highway rides has been giving me 20-22kmpl, city rides have been 15-16 kmpl.

Pune Mumbai gives me 23-24 kmpl on regular basis.
My best has been Wakad to Karjat at steady 80kmph , it gave me 32 kmpl.

I guess the clutch is getting a bit hard at 48k kms and once i change it, it should give me much better numbers.
