What is your car's tank range?

Speak of EVs and "range" is always a part of the first sentence. With ICE cars though, people usually only discuss the FE. In fact, on Team-BHP itself, we recently had two wild discussions on:

- Guzzling Cars (Are you driving a fuel guzzler? Share your guzzler's FE numbers here)

&

- Miserly Cars (Are you driving a fuel sipper? Share your miser's fuel efficiency numbers here)

What is your car's tank range?-distance-empty-dsc_0057.jpg

That being said, people don't discuss tank range as much. We should. Tank range is important because it dictates the frequency of your fuel pitstops. Longer tank ranges are a boon when touring long-distance for a variety of reasons = lesser fill-ups, convenience, you might want to wait for a trusty COCO fuel station or simply not want to stop in a shady isolated village. Tank range is super important if you are holidaying in a remote area, and when offroading.

Furthermore, there are many careful owners on Team-BHP who fill up their tanks when the fuel needle hits the 1/4 level (we don't wait for the fuel reserve light ). Hence, to us, the effective range is 75% of the available range.

So, what is your car's tank range? Request to please follow the below format:

Car & Engine: Thar Petrol AT (2.0L Petrol)
Fuel tank size: 57L
City tank range: 340 km, but I usually fill up at 275 km. That's just ridiculously short
Highway tank range: 400 - 440 odd km. Lesser if I drive really hard

--------------

Car & Engine: BMW 530d (3.0L Diesel)
Fuel tank size: 70L
City tank range: Approximately 450 - 490 km.
Highway tank range: 800 - 900 km. It's a 6-cylinder motor, yet very efficient on the open road, thanks to the super tall 8th gear and its aerodynamics. I've done Bombay - Goa with a 1/4 tank to spare.

EV owners, feel free to share your numbers in this thread too

Re: What is your car's tank range?

Car: Audi A6 Diesel (35 TDI)
Fuel tank size: 75L
City tank range: 900 km, but I usually fill up at 800 km.
Highway tank range: 1100 odd km. Can go upto 1300 if driven sedately (19-20 kmpl)

--------------

Car: Honda City ivtech 3rd gen(1.5 L petrol)
Fuel tank size: 40L
City tank range: Approximately 280-300 km (8-9 kmpl)
Highway tank range: 380 km (9-10 kmpl)

Re: What is your car's tank range?

Among manufacturers, Honda is very stingy with respect to fuel tank capacity. Seven seater like Mobilio/BRV has just 30 litres fuel tank while Honda City has a 40 litres tank.

Re: What is your car's tank range?

Car - Hyundai Venue 1.5 Crdi 2020 model ( BS-6 Phase -1)
Fuel tank size 45 liters.
City range - 650 to 750 kms .
Highway range - Varies between 800 to 950 kms.
Hyundai diesel engines were always among the best in refinement and efficiency. The introduction of Bs-6 norms has blunt the performance a bit, but still, they do work as desired. There is wide variation in highway fuel efficiency as it solely depends on the way you drive. With a light foot, they can be superbly efficient and at the same time, a heavy foot surely brings a smile on face but literally kills of the efficiency.

Re: What is your car's tank range?

Car & Engine: VW Petrol 1.2 MPi (the one I am driving currently)
Fuel tank size: 45 L
City tank range: 580–600 km; fill up at 220-250 km.
Highway tank range: 750–765 km at speeds under 100 km/h. If I maintain a speed at more than 100 km/h, the distance drops to 650–675 km.

Re: What is your car's tank range?

Car - XUV 7OO Diesel (MX)
Fuel tank capacity - 60L
I generally refill when about 15-16L fuel is left in the tank. Following is the range I get before fuel fill ups.
60% highway + 40% city - Range is 850-900 km (18-19 kmpl)
100% highway - Range is 950-1000 km (21-22 kmpl)

The above figures are with the regular diesel. Previously, I used to drive WagonR CNG and that car required frequent visits to the fuel bunk. With my XUV, I usually visit the fuel bunk once in 20-25 days.

Re: What is your car's tank range?

Thanks for the topic.

Car & Engine: Seltos, 1.5D, Manual.
Fuel tank size: 55L
City tank range: 900-950 km.
Highway tank range: 950-1000 km. Comes down to near city range if the drive is at > 100 km/h for significant time of the trip.

Have always felt tank range is important be it long trips of city commute. Aside the benefit of lesser fuel pitstops, I kind of feel at ease with the range it shows after full tank.

Normally I re-fuel at ~800 km.

Re: What is your car's tank range?

Seltos D

Capacity: 50 litres(official)
60+ litres (when filled till the brim)

Range: 600-650 kms (city)
750-1000+ kms (highway)

The highway range can vary depending on how I drive and if I have filled till the brim.

WagonR 1.0

Capacity: 35 litres

Range: 400 kms (city)
500-550 kms (highway)

I am assuming 3-5 litres left in the tank before we refuel.

Will agree with Amaze, it’s just 35L and in city it’s under 250 km when driven hard (7.5–8 km/L).

Accord on the other hand has a good tank size at 70L, highways I can easily cover almost a 1000km before it runs out, obviously I fill at 750-800km when about 25% is left. City driving I get 450-480km when driven normally, but can get more if driven sedately.

Re: What is your car's tank range?

Car & Engine: Swift Dzire VXI First generation MT (1.3L Petrol)
Fuel tank size: 41L
City tank range: 440km on lower side assuming 11kmpl
Highway tank range: 575Km on lower side assuming 14kmpl

*I diligently track my fuel top-ups & FE on both our cars as well as my Honda Aviator scooter, so I know that city FE varies between 11-13 Kmpl and highway FE varies between 15-17 Kmpl and I assume the lower number (even lower on highways) when planning my fuel top-ups so that I can get it refilled from a trusted/known pump on most occasions.

Re: What is your car's tank range?

On both vehicles that has 57 & 60L tanks respectively, the practical range is 450-480 kms, beyond that I do not like to drive without a refueling stop, more for the vehicle than for me. I wish they had 100L tanks, but hey why carry so much additional weight when there are fuel stations around, so there is that.

I think about that time it would be good for the driver to have break as well for a few minutes to refresh, have a tea and an egg puff from among the many MDS bakeries
