Saw in TV and as per the report they are not discontinuing the "Esteem".Its going to be another product

Just a marketing strategy to sell of their already produced esteem's but be assured they are discontinuing/discontinued...

there was a news item in the Times of India saying that they've stopped production in January

Why is Maruti bringing the diesel in the dezire and not in the SX4?

Besides, isn't their diesel capacity being taken up totally by the huge demand for the Swift? How are they going to deliver the Dezire DDis? 12 months waiting?

Yeah! But why not "deseo"??? Seems like Maruti don't want to name another product in Español after "estilo"

the diesel 'desire' should spice up the sedan market and make life even more miserable for the Logan (provided they price it right!). hopefully it won't be an ugly box ....

that engine in the SX4 will be slower than the swift or the 'desire' - not good for the SX4's 'sporty' position. think the SX4 ships with a larger version of the Fiat multijet engine in Europe (1.6L, c.118 bhp)

Yeah esteem production stopped.Heck they dont even have a black coloured VXI almost anywhere and they dont even order it for u.Whatever is there in the showrooms stock is being sold with a huge discount thats it.

we will have to see if they really debut the the Esteem replacement with a diesel heart. Unless Maruti has signed a modified agreement with the Fiat consortium which developed the MJD engine, there seems very little chance of this sedan coming out in the deisel avatar right away.

Another option is Maruti made a deal to source the MJD engines from the Fiat plant in Pune. Fiat-Tata have also set up a plant to produce the MJD engines and they certainly don't have any constraints about the number they are allowed to produce since they own it...
