So, as I said, the success of this model will depend on the pricing (VFM factor) coupled with Maruti's A.S.S
Not one for the performance enthusiasts as it seems to be slower than the Swift Diesel.

As per the brocher 1225/ 1245 kgs for Vdi / Zdi. So instead of being lighter by 70kgs as speculated its around 45 kgs + heavier. Also, as per zigwheels review it takes 14 secs to reach 100 kmph mark.

Well, these guys seem to have put in some effort in going there and doing this review. Certainly Gurgaon pics (a day or two). I have been told by my family that Delhi is clogged in fog.

Thanks for the latest SX4 brochure Sid. I see now that there are only 6 colours. What happened to the new French Eclair colour? My wife and I really loved this colour and had actually shortlisted this colour, if we decided on the SX4 automatic.

Seeing the new Verna specs, I guess I shall wait to make a decision. Diesel SX4 should be a fantastic buy though, with all the same features as the ZXi petrol version.

I just hope in the wake of competition coming (new Fiesta / Verna), MSIL would give the SX4 its much needed facelift with additional features and improved interiors like the overseas models.

The ground clearence is reduced from 180 and 190 mm to 170 and 180 mm respectively on cars with 15 and 16 inch wheels. Does anyone have any idea for the reduction in the ground clearence from the earlier models. Is it because the mudflaps have been added as standard equippment on the cars now.

Better aerodynamic properties and higher efficiency perhaps is a driving reason for this.

The ground clearance is the same as mentioned even in the old brochure that I have, which I got in January 2011. So I don't think there has been any change. It says 180mm for the ZXi and 170mm for the VXi. The ZXi's is actually 190mm. Not sure why this is not mentioned correctly in the brochure.

VSG1777,
the ground clearance of the SX4 when it was launched, stood at 190mm & 180mm for the ZXI & the VXI respectively.

This changed when the car came with the new VTT engine and new wheels arounf a year back.

Lack of AT variants in most cars is really very irritating. Is AT box a rocket science that most car-makers shy of.

I think its the contrary, they give us pocket rockets, but are wary of giving us ATs. Perhaps they want something for our left hands to do!
just kidding

That's right, as per PARTS CATALOGUE SX4 (99000M24120), following are the changes in ZXi suspension for VVT model (aka SX4 type 3) - Thus responsible in reduction of 10mm GC.

1. SPRING, REAR COIL (x 2 pcs) - Changed from 41311M55K00 to 41311M55K01

2. ABSORBER ASSY, REAR SHOCK (x2)- Changed from 41800M55K01 to 41800M55K02

3. STRUT ASSY, FR SUSPENSION RH/LH (x2) - Changed from 41601M55K51 to 41601M55K52

4. SPRING, FROM COIL (x2) - Changed from 41111M55K20 to 41111M55K21.

The parts catalogue also busts the myth that there was ever any change to front drive shaft mechanism after initial SX4 batches. It can only be manufacturing defect. The front drive shaft mechanism still remains same for type 1, 2 and 3.

Maruti had silently "softened" the suspension setup and reduced GC (by changing above parts). Car body roll is reduced and better "perceived" handling. I would suggest SX4 type 1 and type 2 guys to go for it. The comfort is very much "visible". Add primacy LC tires and cruise. Sorry was bit , but could not stop.

Re: SX4 Diesel - Is it on the cards? Update: Pics on Pg 33

Had the pleasure of driving the Demo SX4 ZDi at Mandovi Bangalore yesterday ( a very short drive..the car did not have even a Temp. Reg.). No question of the car being under-powered, at least in city traffic, turbo kicking in is a heady feeling, better than the Swift DDiS. I also felt that the torque build up was more linear than the Verna CRDi. Launch and price announcement on 22-Feb-11. No AT version in Diesel, since it will be price un-competitive.

Re: SX4 Diesel - Is it on the cards? Update: Pics on Pg 33

Just back after test driving an SX4 Diesel Zdi version... Not very impressed... Essentially the controls are the same as in a Swift. The engine too is no vroomer !!! Gives out a muted response, something not expected from a nearly 10 Lac 3 box car. The engine sound too is not that well damped out. Also lack of an auto box is a dampener. Could not find much difference in driving the SX4 diesel and the Swift diesel. In fact the Swift diesel seems faster off. Found the rear too high up for comfort while reversing up. Test drove the SX4 petrol AT too... The engine response seems similar to driving an A-Star AT (that of a much lesser powered car than the manual version)

Will not be changing my Swift Vdi for an SX4 Zdi. In fact just got the seat covers changed. Will also be getting a new set of tyres (Michelin Energy XM1 +) on the stock alloy rims and getting the front suspension overhauled.

I think its better to wait for the upgraded Swift diesel than go in for the SX4 diesel which has no change from the petrol version expect the power plant with a VGT in place of an FGT...

Sorry guys but I was disappointed primarily because I was very excited about the SX4 Zdi launch and was really looking forward to buying one !!!
