What an interesting symbolic gesture it would be on their part.
Or probably they can gift a special first Nano to one of the families that died in Singur protests.
It'll be the Heights of Sarcasm - its more a Diabolic gesture that's saying "hey this could have actually been yours' call aunty MB show her what we made from ashes

I think people get the politicians they deserve, the entrepreunial streak of the Gujaratis has manifested itself in the way Narendra Modi moved to bag the project.

What is interesting is that the plant will have an eventual capacity of 500,000 units and will also make electric/ CNG variants.

Namo that was quick to get Nano to Gujarat!!

I dont know much about Singur saga and why Mamta B was so against it. Anyways they lost 10,000 jobs for some stupid reason and Gujarat earned it!

People of Gujarat also feel this is a sweet revenge, Hindustan Motors walked out of Okha, Jamnagar to West Bengal 60 years ago. Now they have manged to pull Tata from West Bengal to Gujarat!!

No matter what people say about Narendra Modi (Namo) but he is taking Gujarat to places.

Maharashtra needs someone like him.

Better still, they should gift the first Nano to Mamta. But this would infuriate the lady so much that she might even crush her gift car.

10,000 is only direct jobs, but there are probably 20,000+ jobs from suppliers and the related economic activity.

Gujrat for some reason has failed to attract auto companies in the last 5-10 years. GM came to Halol 10 years ago but nobody followed them. When it came to starting a second plant, they chose Pune. Had no idea about HM in Okha..what were they making there?

I am quite happy that Nano would be back on track.

Though, I am not really sure if Ms Mamata is justified in her fight, but I am quite confident that the beginning of production of Nano is good/very good/great for India and its image in the world economy, much more for tatas'

Trouble ahead for Nano in Gujarat?

After all the problems in West Bengal, Ratan Tata's Nano may just run into trouble in its new home, Gujarat.

A group of 23 Rajput families are demanding compensation for what they say is their land in Sanand. These families lay historical claim to roughly 1000 acres of land that the Gujarat government has given to the Tata plant.(Watch)

They claim to have documents to question the Gujarat government's claims. that it is government land. They say the land was leased by them to the Raj-era government in 1902 for a period of 99 years.

In 1911, the government used the land to build the Anand Agriculture University.

But villagers like Manuba Vaghela claim that though the lease period of 99 years ended in 2001, they never got their land back and say if the land is being handed over to the Tatas, they would want some compensation.

"We just got to know that state government handed over this land to the Tatas. We don't have any objection on it except the fact that we should be compensated for our land," said Manuba Vaghela, villager.

"We are the owners of the land and if we are not properly compensated, we will resort to agitations, satyagraha," said Manuba Vaghela, villager.

But the government says that since the lease expired in 2001, and the lease contract was not renewed, the land is now owned by government, and so there is no obstacle to hand it over to Tata Motors.

Nor do they need to pay compensation The Gujarat Chief Minister says there will be no Singur in Gujarat.

"People in Gujarat have a big heart. If you go through the newspapers of the last three days, you can figure out how happy the farmers in Sanand are," said Narendra Modi, Chief Minister, Gujarat.

Government and Tata sources say the villagers have raised objections only because of the Nano announcement. But the villagers say they have been in the court of city principal judge, Ahmedabad over the ownership of the land, since 2006.

News from NDTV.

The govt. accepts that the land was leased. But says no compensation would be given? Is it so? If the lease expired, is the land goes to Govt?

People of Gujrat have big heart, but is it not the govt duty to make sure those hearts are cooled

Saw this on Tv yesterday. I think it is another quick way of making big money. Yes, BIG money.

Modi will come out of this very easily with his excellent speaking and planning skills.

Just read in the news that the Singur residents had a protest yesterday outside the (ex) proposed site. The committee that headed this agitation or frustration or lets say Realization is called "Nano Bachao"

Only one word - "Pity"

I pity these guys. They should actually do this agitation in front of MB's house and keep her house arrest. Atleast the next project coming up in WB will be safe.

Btw, where were these guys when there was so many issues? Atleast they should have raised their voice when MB was busy in stopping the NANO.
