Till the Nano proves itself on Indian roads and the notorious Indian conditions, I'll go for the gutsy lil Maruti 800 !

The cute lil m800 for me. It will always have a special place in my heart (first car sentiments). But I have special respect for Mr.TATA, for bringing in the Nano and changing the automotive world ( Created the most affordable segment) .

Tata's compare Nano with the 800 which i think is totally lame. If you really want to compare it with the 800 ,compare it with the current gen of the same platform The Astar which i feel is milestones ahead of the nano.
Milestones ahead in terms of price too. Its silly comparing the Nano with the A-star. In India, a first time car buyer who's very conscious about price has two options: Nano or 800

My vote goes to the reliable M800. Will revisit this opinion after the Nano runs through Indian roads for a while. It is too early to say.

In this case my friend, a known devil is better than an unknown devil. The M800 is still being sold? I thought that it has been / is going to be discontinued.

EDIT: I stand corrected, the little devil is still being sold.

M800 for me for a simple reason that its looks like a normal car to me , the nano has an estilo kinda feel and i hated cars with van looks, yukk. The other thing with M800 is that, its a trusted vehicle in the long run, nano - no idea.

I have voted for M800, reasons:
1. looks are subjective, but still i like the looks of M800 STILL
2. driveability in city, can handle this car like a bike
3. A.S.S.
4. any 4 wheeler mechanic could look at the problems (my assumption)
5. MARUTI SUZUKI

for obvious reasons NANO:

drove nano for 1 full day, in the city as well as highways.

1. comfortable seating
2. broader and safer rear tyres than m800
3. airy cabin with lots of space
4. the dashboard is very elegent and simple
5. the engine is very responsive. doesnt loose power even when AC is on
6. all the ac vents buttons and accessories are way better than old outdated M800
7. AS is very powerful.
8. city driving was breeze. i could pull on 3rd gear easily at speeds of 20-30 in heavy traffic
9. The crash test has been done and Nano has scored well
10. the Euro norms have also been cleared.
11. Looks are very good. the smooth contours and flow lines give modern and elegent feel.
12. Entry and Exit in the car is a breeze. doors open 90 degrees.
13. Power windows are very quick.
14. Mileage is above 22
15. the steering is very light and positive. car turns like an autorickshaw.
16. reverse gear is very well slotted.
17. the transmission is way better than m800.
18. the single wiper does the job very well.
19. the pick up is amazing. 2 pot motor with 35 bhp is way better than 3 pot 37 bhp motor on m800. the power : weight ratio wins the situation in nano.

the list will go on and on.

i have owned a m800 too and also own an alto.

nano is best VFM. yes its not proven but lets give it a chance to prove than reject saying that m800 is proven.

No one is rejecting the Nano. Or did you want the 'scoreline' to read 10,000 to 1 in favor of the Nano?

not at all , just read through all the posts and saw a quote everywhere " m800 is proven so my vote goes for it, nano is not proven"
its but obvious that the thing " Proven" cannot be compared between nano and m800. its yet to feel the roads. m800 is there since decades.
other points can well be compared. just my opinion.

I request GTO to provide us a TD report on NANO, I would be rather happy to see NANO and M800 co-exist and emerge as a joint winner in spite of rivalry

few years back there was an article by the editor of autocar india how the M800 could be made cheaper. it could be below the 1.5l margin for a base version!!
the alto has taken the place of the M800 and its high time suzuki thinks of stripping down of the unwanted luxuries in the M800 and sell it for way lesser!!
its not impossible but suzuki is simple wasting a dream!!
the nano is new and a fresh feel to it just like many mentioned here.
but keep it aside a M800 and look which feels safer!!

(ps. i havnt voted yet)

I don't know how fair it is to compare the last iteration of a car which was designed decades back with a new car's first iteration.

I think we should hold the judgment till we ourself taken the test drive, or go by the judgment of those who have driven both the cars.
