Awesome job Sid.

Some times i wonder how you manage to get all these info and pictures ,which many fails to get.

I liked the new swift, seems another winner from Maruti suzuki. Plastic quality, fit and finish looks way better than the current swift. Only bad is the boot space of only 211ltrs which is way to less for the car of this segment .

Wish maruti launch this model within couple of months time.

What to expect for India?

As usual, the swift will come in both petrol and diesel options but we cannot comment on the trim levels available, maybe it will be the same like:

Petrol
  • LXi
  • VXI
  • VXi ABS
  • ZXi
Diesel
  • LDI
  • VDi
  • VDI ABS
Gen2 Suzuki Swift, EDIT:Caught testing in India, Pics on Pg.15-2011suzukiswift18.jpg

Seriously, Maruti should provide a ZDI model as all the small diesel hatches now provide dual airbags as standard in their top end models, indica included. Not surprisingly the fully localised 1.2 K12M will be carried over but my gut feeling says that it can be sold in LXi and VXi model, whereas the ZXI model truly deserves the dual VVT K12B engine, price increase be damned, for enthusiasts at least.
Internationally the car rides on 15" and 16" wheels, but sadly we may get 14" wheels with puny tyres in the interests of fuel economy. Hope the ZXi gets 15" with wider tyres at least, as per my wish list.

Launch Dates:

The swift will go on sale this fall in EU and Japan after its official world debut in September at the Paris motor show, in about 100 days from now. Testing, localization and adaptation for Indian conditions usually takea about 5-6 months, so expect the new swift sometime between April-May 2011 frame, though I will no be surprised if the launch is pulled ahead to tackle the intense competition.
Knowing maruti, anything can be expected and it will make sure that no stone is left unturned into making their bestseller better, with sales targets obviously pegged at 9-10 thousand units per month.
Expect a new dzire by 2012-13 which as the rumor mills say is being designed with inputs from Suzuki Japan.

These are my first impressions and expectations from the new swift- bigger, better and bolder with improvements in key weaknesses while at the same time building upon the existing model's strengths, expect another home run.

Over to you, Maruti Suzuki, time to enjoy a new way of life!

The interiors took a major face lift and can be comparable to class competition, hope its the same for India. Front and Back are actually looking good not the best but atleast better than the old Swift.

The car looks brilliant. Of course 1242 cc engine will be chopped down to under 1200 cc and further tuned for fuel efficiency, so I'm guessing we should get around 90 BHP out of this thing. Of course with aftermarket air filters, iridium spark-plugs and a free flow exhaust, this baby should be ready to roll.
The new interiors look excellent, very 'upmarket' in my opinion. Atleast the built in ICE is really classy.

To me it still looks the same - Yucky.

All the same, this frog of a car will still sell. Maruti Magic at work; and they deserve it too I guess.

finally a fresh breath inside cabin of swift, I hope we get the same interiors which are shown in pic (I am seriously optimistic?). As for the exteriors well nothing radical, its still 90% same, almost a twin, come-on Suzuki, old swift deserved a much better makeover than this. What I really appreciate are the engine options, thats where Suzuki scores the maximum.

nice informative thread. The interiors are amazing, I liked the split folding seats, not sure if the current swift has this.

I know it will be a sure winner. But still, it will remain a Maruti - The Rattler. The rare Fabia is going to mistaken for a Swift more frequently.

Just curious:

10 cm added to the wheel base and overall length....
  • luggage capacity with rear seat back folded: 528 litres
  • luggage capacity with rear seat back raised: 211 litres
... but boot capacity reduced by 20 lts. So the entire improvisation is in the leg space!

is it me or the Driver foot well is rather small and the New Dashboard Design is a bit Intrusive and Tall drivers may have problems?
apart from that, the vehicle looks spectacular.
