Re: 2016 Honda Civic - First Look Review

The 10th generation Civic is quite a looker. An attention grabber with that classic coupe roofline!

However, a bit overdone in terms of some details IMO that takes away some brownie points.
  1. The kink on the C pillar after the rear quarter glass.
  2. The way that window line droops down at the rear as if its losing energy.
  3. The gap between the bonnet and the chrome grill (Much has been said about the grill, so I'll skip it)
  4. The wide grin of the air dam.

Just made two small corrections to reflect my tastes, and I feel it looks like a classic coupe, but in a 4 door practical form.

That said, design is indeed a personal taste (acquired), and some of you may agree / disagree with me.

Re: 10th-gen Honda Civic will have a 1.5L turbocharged heart! EDIT: Concept revealed

The Civic has traditionally been an ideal choice for auto enthusiasts looking to do a turbo charging project. There are several 2.0 ltr Civics pushing out more than 300 hp, and in some cases even close to 500 hp in variuos parts of the world. Right from the fifth to the eight generation, the Civic has been a darling of the tuner community worldwide. Now it will be sold with a down sized 1.5 ltr turbo charged engine that I feel would seriuosly limit the tuning potential of the car. The reason I say this is because, there is a limit to how much power you can draw from a 1.5 ltr engine without having to put up with severe turbo lag and reliability issues.

May be I am wrong here but I feel the tuner community will not be too happy to see a 1.5 ltr engine in the Civic. Agree though that for most of the people the stock car with a 175 hp power output will be fast enough.

Honda is going crazy with the chrome bar at the front getting bigger, wider and weirder with every new launch. As much as the new Civic screams 'Look at me', I'm sad that the clean-looking Gen-8 Civics are now a thing of the past.

Agree with you. Honda are trying to bling up their cars probably. The chrome mushy on the front looks overdone and hideous. Instead a couple of chrome slats could have been much better.

That was a good review from Consumer Reports, specially when compared to the disaster they had last time around. Looks like Honda is back in the game once again.

There are no major negative points to speak of- except for the extra bling up front. Hope they launch it here too, with a diesel option.

Another review, this time from autoguide -

"The first new Honda in a long time thats actually worth getting excited about!" They also mention that the quality of materials on the inside is a huge step up compared to the previous generation.

One of my friends is in the market looking for an upgrade to D-segment. Is there any scoop anywhere that Civic will hit our shores in 2016 ? He is more than willing to wait if there is even a 5% possibility.

India bound Civic now spied testing for the very first time in Thailand.

Quote:
The spotted vehicle was wrapped with silver cloth that did not hide much. Compared to the US model, the car features a small rear wing that could come as an optional accessory. Only the rear end of the new Honda Civic has been clicked, and it largely resembles the North American-spec Civic sedan.

I don't think this is India bound ! Honda has plans to launch the BRV and bring back the Accord. They don't plan on bringing back the Civic from what the reports/lack of reports suggest. The Cars they will focus on after the BRV and Accord will be the next gen Brio and the new Amaze.

Re: 10th-gen Honda Civic will have a 1.5L turbocharged heart! EDIT: Concept revealed

Saw the new Civic in flesh today - at our office partking lot.

The first thing that strikes you is its size - it looks noticably larger than the outgoing model.

The second thing that strikes you is its resemblance to the Accord.

The third thing that strikes you is that enormous front chrome treatment.

With this avatar, Honda seems to have addressed the space/passenger fitment feedback from the outgoing model. Undoubtedly, this model is more usable. However, the outgoing model still appears more desirable and purposeful than its successor.

Honda and Toyota should turn to their Japanese comrade Nissan for some mentoring on aesthetics. In contrast, Nissan's current models look positively racy.

China-spec 2016 Honda Civic sedan spotted testing

Here is the new Civic as seen in China:
Quote:
Reports suggest that it will be launched in March 2016, and could be manufactured by the Dongfeng-Honda joint venture

The test prototype simply has a white wrap over its exterior, which appears to be identical to the model sold in the U.S. Compared to the outgoing model, the 2016 Civic Sedan measures nearly 2 inches (50 mm) wider and 1 inch lower (25 mm), with a 1.2-inch (30.5 mm) longer wheelbase
