Thats a serious blow. F1 needs racers like him. Hope Kubica will be back soon.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

That was a nasty accident. It took the rescue team more than one hour to take him out of the Fabia that he was driving. The biggest threat is to his right hand which was badly injured in a road accident years ago and his shattered bones were held together with titanium bolts.

I hope and pray that he will be able to race again. He is too good a talent and F1 will miss him badly. Get well soon Robert.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

What a tragedy. They are already ruling 2011 out and questioning if he can EVER RACE AGAIN.

Now Renault need to find a replacement, their reserve drivers are not quick enough.
Hulk or Heidfeld?
(I dont rate De la Rosa highly as a racer)

I'm sure this would be a 1 yr contract till more is known on Kubica's condition.

Wonder if they will/can consider someone experienced like Trulli.

^^^ They can now consider Kimi (if he feels). He will be a perfect fit-in.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

Actually it would be Senna, the first of their Reserve Drivers. Renault would not have imagined Petrov and Senna as their line-up.

Hope Kubica Recovers and is back soon.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

Very sad to read this news. I hope he recovers soon. Renault would probably sign on someone more experienced, instead of letting Petrov and Senna race a car that seems to be quite capable of winning races. With Hulk already signed on in a test role for FI, it seems Nick Heidfeld is one driver who could fill in ( and he already beat Kubica during their time together , except for one season ).

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

Hope to see Kubica on the F1 grid asap. He is the sort of guy whose absence will surely be felt on the track. Re. replacements till he is back, I seriously hope they sign on Kimi to fill the slot.

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

atleast in the interim rather than making senna race for them they can sign on vitantonio liuzzi. he was not given the best machine while he was at force india last season. at the latter stages he even drove a vehicle whose chassis was the one used for crash testing. hope he gets his chance!

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

^^ Kubica being the No1 driver for the Renault team, they wont be bringing in another rookie or an average driver. They are seriously looking at options of bringing a driver who could keep the business as usual for Renault & its sponsors. The sponsors invest a lot depending on a team's No1 driver!

You might see the reserve driver in the Renault F1 car for first few races, but there are lot of things happening in the background including a huge rumor about trying to get Kimi back to F1!

Re: Formula1 - PreSeason Discussion Thread 2011

I doubt Kimi will be coming back to F1. He has his own team in WRC now and I don't think he would be interested in keeping the seat warm for the time when Kubica makes a comeback. Also, there was some bad blood between Renault and Kimi during the offseason when Kimi said Renault was using his name to get some cheap publicity. But we have seen stranger things happen in F1, so we cannot rule it out ( remember a certain 7 times champion coming back? ).

I think the best replacement would be Nick Heidfeld ( ofcourse I am a bit biased as i like him ). He is fresh, he has tested the Pirellis , he has raced against talented teammates like Kimi, Webber and Kubica and beat them most of the time and he is very consistent too.
Another replacement could be Christian Klein( who impressed by being the fastest by far , in the HRT whenever he tested ) or Vitantonio Luizzi.

But ofcourse, none of them have the clout or popularity as Kimi, so i suspect Kimi would be on the top of their shopping list.
