Congrats for your new Gen3 Swift. I was waiting to have a look at the interiors of the VDi/VXi,they are a huge improvement over the previous gen Swift. One of the biggest drawbacks of the Swift is now gone.

Waiting for some pics with the ICE with details regarding its cost.

PS- Is there any rattling issues?( I know your car is new,but still no harm in asking). I don't want any rattling to crop up in your car though

Haha, honestly I was quite amused to see this feature. Good that it has been available for quite some time.

No idea on the cost, the ICE came as a gift!

No rattles yet. This morning I heard some rattle from the LHS and on deeper inspection it was caused due to some coins kept in the glove compartment. The car feels solid as of now. Hope it continues

That's a good news. Another of previous gen Swift's weak points seems to have been taken care of. Wishing you many happy miles in your new car.

The Palio ICE is packed and left in storage.

Yes, he sold his Swift over a year ago. :-)

Nice stuff, MF. How does the interior build quality compare with the outgoing model's in rattles ? Also, is the suspension driver-centric as in the outgoing model?

The interior build quality is highly improved. No rattles and squeaks. The touch/feel factor has vastly improved. No rough edges, etc. The colour is nice. The design a vast improvement over the outgoing model.

The rear suspension issue of the old Swift is fixed. Rear end of the car doesn't bounce like before and it feels firmer. I enjoyed throwing it around the corners yesterday and it held its line. Body roll is negligible.

Wow, now who be thou generous friends to gift you an entire ICE setup?.
Plan to introduce us to this humble being!

On another note, how did the car perform on the drive yesterday? Any high's/lo's that you noticed?

Going by your running, I am sure the car is due (or may have done) it's second servicing already .

Congrats moralfibre! I've been following this thread for a while to get the feedback on handling and comfort. I see quite a few ex GTX/1.6 owners switching to Swift and it speaks volume about the handling characteristics! Apart from the horses, do you miss something in the new car? How is the seating comfort on long drives?

Can someone please elaborate on the issues with older Swift's rear suspension ? Anything I should be watching out for ?
If its firmer, then I presume ride quality at low speeds is compromised a bit ?

No issues observed so far. The car is behaving itself. I did some high speeds on the expressway and it felt rock steady. It has done close to 1800 kms on the odo already.

Perhaps all the ex 1.6 owners are coping up their losses in fuel bills.

Just kidding. The handling is at par with the GTX, I do miss the pure hydraulic steering unit of the Palio BUT, this one is not too different. Steering feedback is just a notch below and passable. Yes, I do miss the horses but LOVE the torque. It makes up for the loss of horses on a highway cruise. Seats are nice with great thigh and back support. I sat on the backseat and its a wee bit upright but not uncomfortable. I'll be doing a trip to Goa in the first week of October. That should be a good test.

Ojas, it is not necessarily an "issue". The rear suspension of the old Swift was soft. With a full load it would bottom out and the rear end of the car would go bouncing on uneven roads. Recently I had 5 people and a full boot load of luggage to Bombay and I did not face this issue in the new Swift. The ride quality might have been compromised at low speeds but I hardly have 4 people on board within the city.

Ohh, me on the other hand, thinks that the ride becomes very mature in the old car with a full load of passengers. Havent bottomed out yet, but that could be because I drove very sedately over everything when I had more than 2 passengers.
