Overhauled engines can run just fine. Our carb 2003 800 once overheated and in a clusterbomb of tension, hurry and fear, water was poured into the oil filler hole and then they even ran the engine even though they knew they messed up. The engine seized and was overhauled, re bored and made running again. The car has covered close to 2.5Lakh kilometres since. Engine is always doing great. The engine also got heat seized twice because of neglect. All non metallic parts were changed and the engine runs smooth as silk today. Sadly the car is not under my direct care so I cannot do much about it's care. But to answer your question, Yep, overhauled engines can run very well sir. I can imagine how badly LeoShashi was cringing as he read this torturous tale of a Maruti 800. I'm really sorry Quote:

Sir, Could you detail on how to fix a left ORVM on the Type 2 car that came without mirrors on the left hand side. It's a huge safety hazard since the car is exclusively used on the highways Last edited by Aditya : 15th March 2021 at 23:24. Reason: As requested | |||

Wiki says: "An interference engine is a type of 4-stroke internal combustion piston engine in which one or more valves in the fully open position extends into any area through which the piston may travel. By contrast, in a non-interference engine, the piston does not travel into any area into which the valves open." In simpler words, when piston is down, one or more valves may be in that common shared volume where piston will be at TDC. When pistons move up, the valves too leave that area and move up. When timing belt/chain snaps in such an engine, those valves which remain open will not move up as the piston moves up, and thus piston hits the valves, causing a catastrophic failure. If timing belt breaks in 4 Speed 800, it will simply shut down. Put a new belt and it will work again. If it happens in my car, it will require an engine rebuild. Non interference engine: ![]() Interference Engine: ![]() In some cases pistons get damaged, while in most cases, valves get shot. This is why most modern engines with interference design come with robust chains, rather than belts. Some videos on this topic: Quote:

| ![]() Happy 21st birthday to GG ![]() Inspired by the condition of GG & your care for her, our 99 Omni went for a cosmetic restoration just after her 21st birthday (October 2020). The restoration was only possible because of your constant support, guidance, expert advice, help in procuring rare parts. Sharing few photos of the Omni: ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| ![]() Happy Birthday to the luckiest Maruti 800 in the world! The fact that it still looks showroom fresh without a repaint speaks volumes about the love and care it has been getting! The XL6 seems to have become a good friend, it came to the party wearing a birthday cap! ![]() Cars of this era have so much of character, they all seem to be unique personalities! The venerable Maruti 800 especially, holds a special place in everyones hearts. This is truly the car that put India on wheels. In my family, we have had all of 3 M800s in the past, 2 SS80S and one SB308. For all you know, these cars would still be running reliably, serving their owners somewhere around Patna/Hazaribagh/Ranchi. Of my 3 old cars, only the Ikon is in somewhat decent shape. While it is nowhere close to being called pristine, your ownership thread has always inspired me to retain it, despite the fact that it cannot even be driven on public roads due to the NGT rule. Inspired by your thread, I even penned an ownership report when the car turned 20. Even I celebrate my cars birthday every year [13/9/2000]. https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-...ford-ikon.html (2 decades of ownership : A review of my Ford Ikon) Last edited by Sanidhya mukund : 25th March 2021 at 12:18. |

Team-BHP Support ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats to the love of your life turning 21! Looking at the celebration, it's clear the manner in which she is pampered. Enjoy the 800, and the pleasure of owning an automotive icon of India. Not too many can brag about that. ![]() ![]() |

BHPian ![]() | ![]() Birthday greetings to the cleanest M800 of the country ![]() To be frank, I'm a follower of this thread since 2016. GG's condition and the way you maintain it inspired me to keep our 5 Speed which my father was planning to sell after it had completed 2.xx lakhs of kilometres. Your guidance and advices always helped me in sourcing most of its now-discontinued spares. My car was actually mechanically imperfect since last few months due to its broken driveshaft and busted silencer. As MGP has discontinued the production of most of the spares of M800 5 Speed, it took more than a month for me to get a GKN branded driveshaft. Talking about 5 Speed specifically, it is one of the most reliable vehicles sold by MUL for the truth to be said. Wishing you more happy miles with GG ![]() Sharing some pictures of GG's twin : |
