HVK made a point (best practice) of changing the all tyres every 3 years, whatever the condition. My spare one is still BS, which I will change to Yoko after 2-3 months (vitamin-M adjustment).

total Cost = Rs.27300

But within few days I realized of lower mileage, the fuel bar at 3/4th where it earlier took me for ~190 Km, now returned ~150 KM. To reconfirm, I did diesel top-up again and the results were same. Even visually, the new tyres were looking slight pressed. My BS used to have 34psi, but cant comment on the accuracy of various filling points.
Congrats on your Yokos.

HVK is very right in his suggestion of changing tyres every 3 years. I stretched to almost 4 but still 30% life was left on them while changing. Have seen many people keep it 5, 6, 7 etc saying thread is still there. But it can be fatal, recently the Innova experience shared by fellow BHPian is a proof.

Fuel efficiency drop. yes. Even I noticed it after the change from Bridgestone. But I believe its more due to the handling part which is better on Michelin.

that is a very good price for used tyres which have run for 80K. I was offered Rs 50 per tyre in bangalore ( 54K)

Till now for me the Major investment would be the tyre which I have to replace in another 2-3k kms. Planning to go for the same BS stock AT. But after seeing Pranav, I am confused.

Pranav, Can you please educate me apart from BS and Yoko's which is the one which is good which is similar to BS stock so that I can do some R&D and rwad some reviews.

I am running on Michelin Latitude Cross since 4 months. Better handling than BS Dueler. But do not think the mileage can be as good as BS. Also check out the tyre thread quoted by Pranav.

Re: Mahindra Xylo E8 (ABS):-Spacious, Feature-Packed, 8-Seater, Head-Turner Beast is

friends, looks like its raining updates (& expenses!) for my Xylo.

just for emergency purposes, I purchased the Coido 3326 tyre inflater from snapdeal (Rs.1150). Just did a basic test, it makes quite a noise, but hopefully should do the job.

after the tyre replace, went to MASS (GG) for routine jobs. The vehicle had run 10K+ since the last engine oil change.
Had read the full thread of 'OWS Goodies' and various other articles about flush and additives.

Purchased from snapdeal:
(a) OWS 210 Engine Flush for Cars
(b) OWS 220 Engine Protector for Cars (totally to ~Rs.1200
----Total (a+b): ~Rs.1200----
Later came to know, actually snapdeal delivered the OWS via Speedworks http://www.speedworks.in/Home.aspx The owner is member on our forum (check the goodies thread)

I deliberately gave the OWS 360 Diesel Treatment a miss (~700 bucks) and instead ordered:

(c) STP Diesel Fuel Treatment (1+1 offer) at Rs.320.
(fyi: I used this once a long long back on my earlier Indigo LX TDI)

Note, quite occasionally I have been using System-D and two-three times used the 2T Oil pouch on long drives. Overall Im satisfied with System-D (there is a dedicated thread for same).

Another thing, Diesel (fuel) Filter replacement was due (every 20K KM), which MASS puts the Bosch one, costing around ~2000. Learning from the Gear Heads IN forum, I contacted ArrowHead Filters (Mr.Angadh) http://www.arrowheadfilters.com/ This person is quite good to deal with, and actually he also runs a Xylo. After clarifications, I ordered their Diesel Filter @ Rs.350! (yes, you read it correctly). Bosch one comes with aluminium finish, whereas AHF was black painted. While comparing the size, the AHF was slightly (bit) smaller cone that Bosch, otherwise the gasket fit size was same. Next time, I will order AHF's Air Filter too, priced almost similar to oem (~Rs.700).

At MASS, I poured the flush in existing engine oil, and let the engine idle for 5 minutes. When it was drained, the oil was really very black. Hopefully it cleaned some internal deposits, and at that point I registered in mind to use this flush next time as well.

The fresh oil (Maximile FEO) was poured and in-between I added the OWS oil additive. This substance was quite liquid (less viscous), brownish in color. The oil filter oem was fit. MASS guys raised an eye-brow when I gave my AHF filter, but I insisted for the fitment, all OK. Later put the vehicle on idle for few minutes.

FEO note: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...ml#post3261668

Also the newer suspension was giving some issue and I asked to torque all the related nuts/bolts. Noteworthy, during the test drive the adviser told that all is ok with suspension, but in reality we found one nut was quite loose!

Later I added only 3/4th of STP diesel additive to full tank, and balance was used on tank top-up. Now if you see, after all these good treatment, the vehicle is really smooth and feel an increase in power.

The next task is Battery replacement. Long self start and DIS reseting issues have crippled (& increasing) and after various battery testings, its declared that my current Exide is dying. I have already take opinion from many members, and would either put Amaron Black or Go.

@pranav, Thanks for all the suggestion you gave on the tires. I thought of that but finally went back to tried and tested tire Bridgestone Duellers itself which had served me for 73k kms. I changed all the 5 tires and for each tire it costed 6700/-.

Pranav - which Mahindra service center do you get your Xylo serviced from? Do the MASS guys honor warranty if they are asked to fit non-OEM parts? Please do post a review of the Arrowhead Filters. The difference between the AHF and the OEM Bosch filters are too huge to ignore. But it also depends on how long the AHF ones run for?

Shishir - the Bridgestones have really treated you very well I remember we had Bridgestones on our Qualis and they lasted real long. Agree there are better tyres - but if Bridgestone worked for you, its best to stick with it.

Sirjee, congrats on the new BS. Dont every think that you have chosen the same thing again (!); if that suits you, so be it.

Sirjee,
surely the price difference is a lot, and hence I took a plunge. Now, superficially I cant make-out the difference between these two variants, its just that time will tell. Any pointer to test the efficiency of a diesel filter ?

People change a whole lot of things in vehicle (oil, bulbs, headlights, additives, etc) and still the warranty is intact. For a diesel filter, the worst case I can think of impure delivery of fuel & consequently lower power / mileage. Max I think a sensor may cry, if water creeps in. But thats the extreme I can say, which can happen with even oem filter !

Sometime back in my friend's Xylo: GG-MASS open the air filter cabinet, just to find that filter foam was totally burnt & had turned to small pieces! Now, there's a small indicator nozzle to see filter's choking, but nobody noticed it in this scenario ?! I heard they had a to do a lot of cleanup and then install new filter. BTW, the filter was OEM itself.

BTW, earlier forgot to add: In the recent task, got the rear brake liners changed ~ Rs.3000 @ 82K KM. First Time Change. Visually looking, the liners still had a good life to stretch 5-8K KM, and drums were also good, but did this proactively. I had changed the front brake pads at ~ 45K KM, which are still running good. I get these things cleaned-up regularly.

Almost all my jobs are done at Global Gallarie, Thane. After so many visits and spending hours there, Im sure most of the staff there knows me.

Y'day got the battery changed to Amaron Go 65a (18+18) @ 4900 net. A green box in the bay looks kool !

In the next feasible schedule, plan to change the foundation bushings (2 x engine mounting and 1 x gear-box mounting). Verbally, they quoted 700 per piece for engine, but GB-bush wasnt available. When I was speaking to HVK, he specifically advised this replacement. Though the MASS would be not interested in such jobs, and may even not point this to you.

regards,
Pranav

Re: Mahindra Xylo E8 (ABS):-Spacious, Feature-Packed, 8-Seater, Head-Turner Beast is

Friends, was unable to update this thread since some time - lazy (yes!), and work & work related travels.

Service Update: 88500 KM

The main reason for my visit was Engine Oil change, suspect of bad UJ bearing (propeller shaft), some oil leaks, etc.

Actual works done:
- engine oil and oil filter change (I have always used the OEM, now FEO variant)

- Two of UJ had developed play and were replaced. some info I put at http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...ml#post3386819 for ref

- Front Brake Pads were replaced. this time, discs were skimmed on lathe machine. some updated put at http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...ml#post3360359

- during the brake cleaning exercise, the engineer noticed a small leak in Rear Right Differential Axle, oil seals (inner & outer ones) were changed.

- power steering hose was anyways leak, and replaced this time. PS Oil was also renewed.

- breather hose assembly had a leak, replaced along with its seal

- a leak was found on the rocker cover (housing the timing belt), seal & gasket was changed

- tappet gasket was replaced, had a leak. Few month back also I had got it changed !

- after my last service (@ 82K KM), I had a successful trip to Kutch (sorry again lazy for no TL!). The engineer suggested that because of dirty air filter also, there are changes that breather pipe was getting leak. So, we opened air filter compartment, and indeed the filter was dirty - maybe because of the dusty environments I traveled. Air Filter was also changed.

Now, actually I had already ordered the air filter from ArrowHead Filters (costing same around 750), and was awaiting delivery. But above process forced me to change to OEM one at workshop itself. The AHF was delivered few days later.
I noticed that OEM one has a oil film to trap the dust; whereas the AHF one doesnt have any oil. Its just dry. I checked with AHF guy and got a reply that they maintain the porousness (holes) using multiple layers of foam type, and hence oil wasnt necessary. Infact I asked him whether I can store it as spare for long time, he said perfectly fine to keep it sealed and use when needed.

- I mentioned to engineer, that sometimes the Reverse Gear was getting stuck. Engineer suggested to replace the Detent & Plunger Kit. Its basically under the gearbox, having a ball-bearing put on a spring, housed in a slot, screwed underneath. All costs below Rs.150.

Total Bill was Rs.14500/-

Another Update: Y'day visit at MMASS @ 91650 KM:

Got the engine mounts changed. Next time will get the gear box mounting changed. The difference is noticeable. Some updated I have put at : http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techni...ml#post3386945

PS: the related topic's information I have posted in those threads itself, and just giving the links herein. I think that it'll keep the integrity of all threads well. Hope thats OK.

Re: Mahindra Xylo E8 (ABS):-Spacious, Feature-Packed, 8-Seater, Head-Turner Beast is

Guys,
Am planning to change my XYLO E4 tyres after 60k kms and 5 yrs. The threads on all tyres still look good and I have never used the stepney till date since I have suffered a single puncture (yes ONE) till date and that too in Amritsar after a 1500kms drive but i guess its time.

The Bridgestone stock tyres have served me well through all my travels...Ladakh...Jaisalmer...Kanyakumari and all over central India. I need the new tyres to help me get through to Kaza (this june) and later to the North-east!. I mean its 50-50 city-highway travel.

Am a bit confused with all the suggestions here...
1) Should i replace them with the same Bridgestone Stocks
2) Yokohoma Geloanders.
3) Michelin latitude Cross

And any suggestions for tyre dealers in western suburbs will also be helpful..

Regards,
Nikhil.

re: Mahindra Xylo E8 (ABS): Spacious, feature-packed, 8-seater is here. EDIT: 340,000 km up

Hi all,
Its been a long time no postings done on this thread! My Xylo had witnessed own share of maintenance, couldn't update all over here.

Though of sharing a bit different repair - windshield washer unit (including motor):

Since many months I had noticed that the water reservoir was leaking. Whenever I poured water in the inlet hose (engine bay, next to battery), lots of water used to drip down, though some water remained to let work the sprinkling action. But it was a pain refilling the tank every few days, depending on usage. Once I had asked the MMASS to see, they said that big job in opening the side panel etc, I ignored it.

Few days back, I noticed that sprinkling dint work at all, even after I poured more water in the reservoir. Now the rainy reason was to set, and windshield sprinkling will be most required. This thing needed urgent attention. I suspected either some electrical problem or maybe the tank was totally cracked not allowing to store water. It was Sunday, I went to a local garage and the boy was quick to start working. He carefully removed the screws and press-buttons, and wheel arch cover/casing (the fiber protection cover inside of the wheel arch, dont know the technical term for it!). He carefully dismounted the small motor (attached on the reservoir tank) and check for electrical connectivity - announced that motor is dead. He advised me to buy that motor from the next door Maruti-GP shop and assured that part will be compatible in my vehicle. I purchased the Motor (Rs.276) and mechanic checked with my vehicle, no problems.

Next I asked him to dismount the tank also, and found that it was indeed a big crack which was leaking the water. One method (jugaad!) was to repair with M-Seal, but problem may again occur in future. The garage guy sourced the MM-OEM assembly from another shop (quoted Rs.1750), but this unit also came along with the motor! Doubting that Maruti-GP shop will honor the motor return, I simply kept it with me as spare. (maybe in future I plan to conduct a small water-fountain experiment with his small motor, kids delight!). The new assemply was installed, and sprinkler was working fine. The total cost I paid to mechanic was was Rs.2000.

FYI: the windshield washer unit (incl motor) by MM is manufactured by Prabha Engineering (http://prabha-engg.com).
Reservoir unit: http://prabha-engg.com/Windshield_Washer_Unit.aspx (part nu050000/13)
Motor: http://prabha-engg.com/Windshield_Washer_Unit_Pump.aspx

Some more updates:
- few days back, got replaced the engine mountings (were torn-off!) and gear-box mountings.
- a bit diff oil was leaking, so got inner oil seals on both rear axle (see previous post of earlier change)
- there was rust formed in many parts (door panels, rear wheel arch and etc), got denting/painting & polishing (including both bumpers) done at a local garage, costing ~8K. not a very good job, but addressed the issue to large extent. However, last week I noticed lot of rust formed under the rubber seams of the doors (upper side) ! will later see what could be done.
- tyre changes (partial!): http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/tyre-a...ml#post3985365

As of today Xylo is ~158K KMs and already completed 6 years in June last month.

pcpranavji great education from your share of your Xylo's service details along with so detailed and closeup pictures. I own a xylo just crossing 39000 km after approx 5.5 years and I am an avid follower of your posts. Do keep up sharing your experience. Great Job!

re: Mahindra Xylo E8 (ABS): Spacious, feature-packed, 8-seater is here. EDIT: 340,000 km up

Hi Pranav,
Thanks for such detailed write up and this Shall surely help other fellow xylo owners . I actually drove a pre worshipped xylo E6 ,2010 for 3 years or so .
also drove to Amritsar from Vashi and back . Can identify with many of the issues you faced. Bought a friend's Ertiga ( 11 month old with only 9k on odometer) in October 2014 . Found the Ertiga infinitely more refined and xylo sitting idle in parking was giving more maintenance than I was feeling comfortable with. So sold it in Feb 2015 .
Later repented like hell , missed the great cruising ability and the kind of feeling of safety and reliability the xylo gave me on numerous highway runs , sometimes at night when it was raining cats and dogs.
So this month bought another pre worshipped xylo , again 2010 E6, with only 45000km on odo known owner and full service record. Interesting to go thru your detailed report. Last time around I had kept a log. This time I know where to get things done. No mass for me. There are quite a few good mechanics of Mahindra vehicles Navi Mumbai and 2 authorised spare parts stockists.
Threads like these save other fellow sufferers from getting conned at authorised service stations.
Thanks .

Sorry for not updating the Services carried out on our Xylo since past 3 years.

On last Sunday, I replaced the Caliper Pins of our Xylo with New Ones as a DIY. The Odometer reading is 277225 Kms.

After fitting the New Caliper Pin with New Boot.
Note that the Boot had to be snugly fitted on both sides of it.
The ASC would have just inserted the Boot on the Pin and greased and inserted the Pin back to its place.
