Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

Hey guys, Iam using an Optra Magnum LT for the past 18 months and clocked 33k KMs till date. Left it at the service centre yesterday for a 30k KM service. I regularly give my car for service at Kun Automobiles, Hafizpet.
The guy at the service center gave a quote of close to 8k as he said he will have to change the motor belt and fuel filter for the 30k service.
It would be really helpful if you guys can help me with the below questions:

1. As the service interval for Optra is 5k KM, I normally clock it within 2 to 3 months. Can we stretch the service interval to 7 or 8k KMs as I find it tough to send my car for a service every 3 months.
2. Got a bill of approx 5k for the 25k service as the oil filter had to be changed for the 25k service. Was that mandatory?
3. Should I really shell out 8k for the 30k KM service by changing the belt and fuel filter?
As Iam not fully aware of the changes that needs to be made at every service interval, are these A.S.S guys taking me for a ride?

It would be great if somebody can help me with the above questions and also what changes needs to be made during the future service intervals!

Thanks in advance.

Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

In the vehicle service booklet there is a schedule of various jobs to be carried out at stipulated time and distance travelled intervals. These tables are very detailed and tell you exactly what is to be done when. Refer to the same and you will be good to go. If you do not have a copy, the service centers have their own and you could refer to it there.

Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

@CrankShaft05 I am at Kropex for 30K service and the estimate handed to me is 10,500 plus taxes. The items to be replaced are:

1. Air Filter- due for replacement at 30k interval as per Chevy's maintenance schedule (INR 2500) next replacement will be at 50K mileage
2. Fuel Filter- due for replacement at 30k interval as per Chevy's maintenance schedule (INR 1500) next replacement due at 60k mileage
3. Brake Fluid- due for replacement at 30k interval as per Chevy's maintenance schedule (INR 1800) next due at 60k mileage
4. A/C vent- specific to my case. One of the A/C vent was broken. In fact it is second time in 2.5 years that I need to replace A/C vent (INR 800)
5. P/S oil and hose- I requested for this as the P/S hose came off couple of months ago. It was fixed by road assistance then but to be on safer side I was advised to get the hose replaced (INR 1200)
6. Plus labour charges

The next major service expense will at 60K mileage. Chevy recommends replacing timing belt at 60K interval and the approx cost is INR 25K. I have accepted the fact that I will have to spend INR 15-20 K every year (with mileage of 10K per year) on car servicing.

I suggest you get in touch with the local GM dealers. Be prepared for some sales talk on the lines of "Saaar, forget about Optra, Cruze is a fantastic car." Good luck with your search.

It might be little on higher side but condition matters. Getting a good car is very difficult so sometimes you need to pay a premium.

Congrats RJ555. You can consider yourself lucky for finding a very sparingly used Optra Magnum.

Take good care of her and happy motoring

Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

My car has clocked 47600km till date. I am the second owner and bought the car at 41300 odo. Recently I happened to drive another Maggy with odo reading 94000km and found it to be having much better power than mine. I having graduated from Honda city was finding it difficult to manage the vehicle in city traffic especially with its turbo lag. But I was taken by surprise the kind of efforlessness the other car I drove had. This proves that my car is definitely have some issues on pick up. I had done the last service with oil change at 44700 and I maintain a tyre pressure of 30psi. The air filter was previously changed at 30k service and is due to be changed at 50k as per Chevy service manual. Could the forum advise me on what else could be the reason for sluggish pickup apart from Air filter, Fuel filter? Does clutch play a role in this as recently I felt vibration on my clutch during a 150km drive and in bumber to bumper traffic. I had not felt this earlier.

Advice from the gurus are most welcome.

45K KMs and counting

I have been driving Optra for 3.5 years and completed 45K KMs. So far the experience has been satisfying

Now, the car has entered a phase where I need to plan for 2 major expenses:
1. Tyre replacement
2. Timing belt replacement at 60K KMs

Tyre replacement- I ran stock apollo tyres so far. Wanted to change to Bridgestone/Michelin 3.5 years ago but the exchange price of INR 250 per stock tyre was too low to convince me for tyre upgrade. But now I have another opportunity, so I visited Tyre Plus (Whitefield) to enquire about the options. I took my notes and shortlisted Michelin Primacy (195 60 R15- stock size), Michelin Primacy (205 55/50 R 15) or Pirelli (215 55 R15). While I was getting price quotes from the sales executive, he mentioned about Falken tyres. No one in my family/friends circle has used Falkens- so any inputs are welcome.

From pricing perspective- I am looking at getting 4 Michelins (stock size) at 24-25K and it will be 30K for upgraded size 205/215- should I get more price quotes? or the price offered is reasonable?

Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

I get my 6.5 old Optra Magnum D serviced at Orange Auto, Hyd. From past 2 yrs I am charged for brakes O\H in every service. Do we need to get Brakes overhaul every 5k kms?
