Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

@ drive_or_die I have to buy my car by the end of this month. Most probably it would be (99.9%) Optra and same colour as yours.

Anyway, thanks for welcoming me to this elite family.

Thanks @Highflyer, this is "Linen Beige" - it's a 'practical' color, like the car itself (in my opinion at least) - does not absorb too much heat, and it's one of the few colors where the oodles of chrome on the LT do not stand out too much.

Many congrats, RAV1 on your new Magnum. Drive the beast safely. What are the goodies yuo got with the car? What was the final price you paid? Did you opt for the GM insurance or go for an outside insurance?

Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

In my books, the Optra will always be an amazing car to own. But I miss the old alloys which looks way more classy than the current ones and I did not like the stereo which stands out like a sore thumb!! The previous Alpine stereo looked better.

Congrats RAV1 on the Optra.

It indeed is a stonker of a car. I agree that the alloys look quite insipid and along with its change, recommend a better rubber to enjoy its full potential.

Btw, what was the landing price and discounts offered?

Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

I too am considering a sedan purchase. Initial choice was the Manza (have even started a thread for it). May splurge and go in for the Optra. Seems to be a wonderful car.

Congrats RAV1. Wishing you many happy miles ahead.

Any thoughts and experiences you may want to share on the purchase and negotiation phase would be very much welcome.

Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

Poitive, there are 2 discounts possible. One is the dealership giving a straight discount of 15-25k depending on your negotiation and the other is corporate discount which is applicable to the companies on the GMs list. Dunno what the basis of making to this list is but most of the IT companies will be on that list. If you work for a corporate listed then you can get additional 10-15k discount.

You can also save some money by opting for outside insurance. Do check out with your local dealer.

@rosh_aveo1.4: The new stereo totally spoils the interiors. I agree the old Alpine system was much better than the present weird stereo.

@NoRules, Thanks for the inputs.

Just curious about how corporate discounts work and the logic of it all.

Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

No mystery there, Poitive. GM has a list of companies which it considers important and deserve to be pampered. If you work for a company on their list, you get a discount from GM (not from dealer) otherwise you do not.

The sales guy at Orange Auto suggested I buy the car in my friend's name who works for a company on the list.

Re: Ownership report : Chevrolet Optra Magnum LT 2.0 TCDI

What I was wondering about was the business sense and logic in offering discounts to some companies and not to others. About how it makes business sense. Whether it is offered as a benefit to the companies (as an employee benefit) to the companies who have bought some cars in bulk from a manufacturer or something like that.
