I wonder if it will give a 3 channel output, if the input is just Front and Rear (which is what it would be in the Civic).

But as you said, $84 (for the price of a Scosche LoC) makes it worth trying out. Eagerly waiting to see the results !
I read and re-read yours and ST7677's ICE thread before making a plan and purchasing all these stuff. At this point, several things are up for experimentation. I dont know how ReQ will supply signal to the sub preout as there are no separate sub lines-in from Civic's OEM HU. If not, then I need to purchase another Scosche LoC or chuck the ReQ altogether. Lets see how things pan out.

To tell the truth, I am very excited about the whole thing. Will keep all of you posted.

Oh nice stuff, this should keep you happy for a while . Curious as to how much did you end up paying totally, and when is the install?

Thanks guys. Could not resist posting the picture. Initially I had thought of disposing the boxes, but now the packing is mostly done with the boxes. Thankfully everything fitted in along with other loots! Akshay, the damage was just short of 600$. I need to find a box maker for the sub and the installation will be done at mdsaab's friend's place. I had spoken to him before leaving shores and he had agreed to do the job (he is very choosy).

Pray tell, what is PND? I can think of many interesting acronyms.

Yes, looking forward to meeting up soon too. It is like a jail here, a very hot one that.

Dotty, some interesting stash you've got there! Being greedy, are we? .
I suggest, while you are at it, might as well lay your hands on a GPS device. That would complete the gadgetizing (is there such a word?) of your car!

So now, what are you getting for your dear friends that you cant do without?

Aah, Ramesh Bhai will be doing the installation. you are in safe hands.
can he not get the box made for the sub?

While there are many interesting acronyms, lets pick the car related one.
as mentioned below. It's Personal Navigation Device.
You can pick up a nice Garmin one while you are out there.
Really cheap, $100 at max.
Then we shall get the maps for you from here.

Haha, thanks Patron! I thought it was something specific to cars with an auto 'box, and was wondering why the 'R' (and 'S') disappeared!

I would suggest a WinCE based devices rather than a Garmin. Don't get me wrong, Garmins are terrific and I own one but the map support is poor.
Infact I don't use the wince device too. My Nexus one with a car dock is my PND with the latest MMI and music device in my Civic. The music output is simply superb.
Get a smart smart phone and you are good to go.

Me too some how prefer a Win CE device. May be because I am too much used to it. I have one with satguide and its just fine, but I normally use it for logging and not navigating. The primary use is to track me, way I'll find

re: My preworshipped Honda Civic - Scorponok. Now with Vtec indicator

My navigator is a WinCe too.
but can we get a map for a WinCe brought from abroad?
i know the Garmin ~ Satguide combo works out real cheap.
and hence the recommendation.
Yes MMI maps are much better, but then they cost 7K for Garmin maps, which is ridiculous ~ absurd even.
i would suggest picking up an MMI navigator in that case, instead of spending 7K for just the maps.

Many folks are now preferring using their android phones with MMI maps. maybe it's time to buy the maps for my Galaxy S then.

re: My preworshipped Honda Civic - Scorponok. Now with Vtec indicator

We use Nokia OVI once in a while. It is quite good, the interface is nice, generates long distance routes, tells you GPS speed etc. This has helped us during a few sticky situations. However two disadvantages are (1) detailed maps are not available for all parts of the country and (2) the novelty factor wears off after sometime. I absolutely love the way my son sometimes says "shut up, shut up" to the Nokia lady when she slowly says "take left after 100 meters".

I saw the map-my-India device in action recently. It is quite cool and useful. Hows Garmin and WinCE different from map-my-India, google and OVI?

BTW, I thought Guderian believed in Gramin over Garmin.

Hi dot,

I can see that you are gadget shopping. Do you have a polymerised wiping cloth for the car? I used to employ it for wiping the car after washing-much better than any chamois leather etc-no water mark at all. Available at any Walmart and costs only about $10.Comes in a tube in different colours.

If you don't possess one of these, please do yourself a favour and buy one before returning home.

Mine is worn out and gone now-so can't help you with the brand name etc.But it is commonly available.

Cheers,charthom.
