Cold air/ Fresh air is not better for the car! INfact cold air is bad Quote:

I have read this in not only one but many threads in t-bhp regarding hot and cold air into the intake and how people want to give a trunking from such a place where outside "FRESH, COLD " air comes in and so on and so forth.
Guys I deal a lot with IC engines and here are my comments which are checked and rechecked and proved and written, so there's no ambiguity about it. Still being relatively junior(both age and date of joining ) in this forum I would request for experts comments/views.
1. Hot air intake is better than cold air intake because you are loosing out on thermal efficiency.
argument to this might be hot air is lighter than cold air so compression ratio achieved would be compromised.
In comparison to both it has been proved that air intake to the engine is best at 35-40 degrees
So the whole issue of cold air from outside is not quite justified
2. Fresh air : or more oxygenated air. our atmosphere (by god gracE) is 20.9% oxygen (lets hope the UN international climate conference can contribute in maintaining this). And in a typical combustion cycle not even 40% of that is used. (Please note :turbocharging etc is not for allowing a higher oxygen percentage in fuel but achieving a greater compression pressure)
trust me when i say even if you let in the car exhaust into the inlet of the engine the same air can be utilized for 2-3cycles. So fresh air is is not valid either.
The only cause I believe with my teeny weeny brain to have a trunking to the front of the car is it helps in forced induction to some extent cause when you raise the speed of the car the air also is blowing towards you at that much speed. But again guys this is a real lame explanation or finding a needle in a haystack sorta argument cause it would probably improve your car's performance by 1/10th of a percent that too if you are lucky.
