Re: About Vinyl Wraps

Got my car wrapped today at a local shop in Mysore!

I didn't get the roof and bonnet wrapped as I was basically looking at a sporty wrap , rather than a total wrap.

Got the Honda emblem stickered instead of a paint spray job!!

Job done at Radium stickers, vidyaranyapura, mysuru!

Further 2 above, got the car wing mirrors wrapped with camouflage color.
Looks pretty majestic imho.

Done at the same location as above at https://*******.com/f2webays

Bargained down from 400 Rs to pay 200 Rs as charges for the wrap.
Pics for the viewing pleasure.

Wrapping my Brezza’s front grill

Hi,
I just wrapped my Vitara Brezza’s front chrome grill.
I’ve never been a fan of chrome but could not wrap it earlier because no shop in my city would do it and the after market ones were not to my liking even more than the chrome so I had no option but to resist my temptations, but after I replaced my old headlights with the 2020 Brezza’s LED units (which already have chrome parts in it), it was too much bling-bling to my taste and I could not control anymore and ordered some carbon fibre themed vinyl off from Amazon, grabbed a hair dryer, a paper cutter and got to it myself with some help from my younger brother.

I know this is not the best job in the world and has some wrinkles here and some rough edges there but still I’m proud of myself because honestly I thought I will make a disaster out of it but in my opinion I did fairly well given my inexperience in wrapping or any DIYs for that matter.

Thought I’d take some suggestions from my fellow BHPians regarding my work and also that should I go ahead and wrap those chrome “U”s above the grill?
I am also attaching a picture from the time I did had not wrapped it for the comparison.

Looking forward to your responses.

Very nicely done, considering it that most decal shops refuse to do it for various reasons and it is your first try at Vinyl wrap.

If it is a general vinyl and not wrap material, one can use the following method
1) Mix Johnson baby shampoo/ezee/gentell mixed with water in a spray can
2) Remove the paper over the sticky area and generously spray on the sticky side of the vinyl
3) Place the vinyl over the area to be covered
4) Use a squeegee and gently push the water way
5) Dry with the air dryer and park the car in hot son for an hour.

The above method works on flat surface and I haven't tried on curvy panels. I got to understand from some of the decal guys that the wrap grade vinyls don't go well with soapy water.

Thanks for your suggestion, much appreciated.

I had actually seen the Maruti Accesories guy use that method when he applied the genuine stickers I got for the car when I bought it but actually in this case the vinyl was a wrap vinyl and I don’t think that I could’ve used it with soap water, the mistake I made was that I wrapped the right hand side part of the grill without using a heat gun that’s why it has some wrinkles but I learned from that and used heat to wrap the left side which came out much better with almost no wrinkles.

Re: About Vinyl Wraps

Did anyone got their wrap job(especially dual tone roof) mentioned in the car's RC? What is the procedure for the same? Is it easy going or do the RTOs hesitate to do such changes in RC?

Can anyone throw light on the RTO formalities to be done in case we do a full wrap with a very different colour. Thinking of doing the wrap for my 7 years old Vento.

You should contact an Agent, basically you will need to inform the RTO and get a letter of approval. You will then take it to installer, get it change d and then get it checked again and RTO and get it corrected on RC. Agent should be able to help.

Wrapped my E 90 !

The BMW X1 completed 8 years with me and hence time to change it. I Never keep my vehicles so long but after previously owning the E 90 3 series for 2 years, the F-30 felt dwarf, it felt like a soft vehicle from the stables of Honda or Toyota. Not a BMW by any standards and so kept on driving the X1 (2013 ) which felt from the same mould as the E 90 . Then the new X 1 came and a big shocker to me, it was a FWD. Sorry, I consider myself a purist! Can't digest that.

So kept the X1 going until recently when after reading all the reviews about the new G 20, made up my mind to purchase it and no diesel this time, it was going to be a Turbo petrol, the 30i. Called up the SA and he arranged the test drive of 320-D as expected as 330i was not there as the case with all petrol models.
Now here comes another surprise, the steering again felt too light for my test and the SA advised me to use the Sport mode which imparted a little bit of weight to the steering but still, the car felt loose and didn't strike the chord with my heart. Noway I am going to buy this car for 55 lakhs and then feel sorry for not getting what I wanted which was the real BMW - The ultimate driving machine.

Came back and then again glued to the T- BHP forums.

Eureka! There it was, there is a thread by the name " G20 vs its worthy competitors " featuring the F 30, Mini JCW, Skoda Octavia VRS and the E 90. After reading it was clear as afternoon shining sun that the E 90 still remains the " Ultimate Driving Machine " and from my personal experiences it is by a long margin. The magic of E 90 went from the heart to the head within no time and it was apparent that now, I have to look for a used E 90. The best part was, those were available below 10 Lakhs and if there is any forum running having theme best enthusiast's car under 10 lakh rupees then my request is to put the E 90 on top of it.

And where to search other than T- BHP classifieds itself? You have already covered your 30% of checking if you find it at a member's house. That's the trust it commands if it belongs to a member. Found one 2011 model, 63K done and the vehicle looked to be in an esteemed condition. Fellow member Mr. Ajay was the owner. The deal was struck and the beauty was mine for a little over 7.5 Lakhs.

Here are the initial photos,

Now it was too plain for my test looks but it was magic to drive after testing so many cars, bang on towards my requirements. Time to spruce her up looks and hence decided to have her wrap. No engine mods as I do believe in GTO's saying that factory horses are factory horses, period! Done her servicing and she went straight away for the wrap which I chose after seeing a video of an M4 on YouTube. Here is she in all her glory.

And about the money which is left with me, with adding some more in it planning to buy an X 3 30i which I have already booked now.

Mod Note - There are too many grammatical & spell mistakes. Please proofread before posting.

Re: Wrapped my E 90 !

Brilliant car, as pure as you can get in recent times, killer combo with the X3, but I'm sorry that is one U-G-L-Y wrap! A wet satin colour or even a matte colour would have looked much better.

Re: Wrapped my E 90 !

Isn't this two color wrap illegal?

Instead of the wrap, get a M3/CSL bodykit, alloys, projector headlights, ORVMs. That will make the car standout.

Am sorry to say, but this wrap is making things worse.

Re: About Vinyl Wraps

Does anyone know where to get Gloss Black wrap sheets in Chennai? I wanna wrap my Honda City's roof by myself someday. Also does black wrap make the interior hot on summer days by absorbing heat?

Re: About Vinyl Wraps

Any tips on wrapping interior trims? My 330i Sport comes with the faddish piano black inserts which are already swirled/scratched. This is even though I personally clean the same.

Was thinking of a CF or dull silver/grey effect to go with my grey dashboard & black seats.
