Just got my BT receiver from mapmyindia and while they delivered fast [4 days] I would like to warn everyone that there is NO AC charger - only a car charger. This is fine if you are using primarily in the car but if like me you want to use for cycling its a pain.

Cheapest GPS Receiver + Maps for WM

How much you paid for the package? eBay has the same package at 3.5K... which includes the maps and BT receiver.

Hi I have a question regarding satguide miomap.
Does the Satguide unit come with the miomap 2008 or miomap v3.3
If its v3,3 the maps are in fbl format, which means I can buy just the maps from them and use it in my mio, if its miomap 2008, I have to buy the whole software along with the maps.
However I think cost would be similar because they will charge me for the whole bundle(2500rs I think) even if I purchase just the maps.

So for now the question is, can you look into your maps folder and tell me is it fbl file or cpf file?

Pardon me on my ignorance on how this stuff works.

Do you connect your Bluetooth enabled mobile/PDA with the bluetooth GPS device? So essentially, use the mobile screen for viewing the maps/direction while the GPS device connects to the satellite to find your current location & use the mgmaps database to find direction?

That's my best guess on this bluetooth GPS stuff would actually work for us. Please confirm.

I have a Nokia E61 mobile - obviously not a Windows mobile, but I do see a couple of tools/software in it- Navigator, Position & Landmarks. Wonder if I can use my mobile by hooking up with this bluetooth GPS device??? Gurus please advise.

Well it works this way.
You put a mapper application on your mobie phone. This can be mgmaps. OziexplorerCE, Garming mobile XT etc.,
This application will display the map.
Now this application has to know where exactly is the mobile on the map.
This is where the GPS comes in.
The bluetooth GPS finds its location from the satellites, and generates something called NMEA sentenses.
These are read by the mapping application through bluetooth, via a virtual com port.
Lets say COM2 is assigned to bluetooth device.
Normally 4800baud is all you need, but most applications connect at 57600 Baud(I hope I got the exact number right).
So every second, the NMEA sentence is read by the mapper app on your mobile, and it translates to that "dot" on the map which indicates you.
Some devices use SirF sentences, but NMEA is the most common.

However you do not need to do anything fancy. Most programs come with auto port scan,
So you just connect your mobile with GPS via bluetooth, the program will run and autoscan the ports, and latch on the correct port at correct Baud Rate.
