Re: Jump Starters for Auto Transmission Vehicles

I don't know how far it's true but a mechanic once told me never to jump-start any car. Manual or automatic. He cites example of a 2004 Corolla automatic which was jump-started using an external battery and it fried its starter motor. The starter motor had to be sent to auto electrician for re-winding and new brushes or something of that sort. Experts can throw some light on this.

In my car's user-manual (Civic-AT) there are instructions on how to jump-start. Honda engineers certainly know more than a local mechanic!

However care has to be taken to do in in the proper sequence.

Here is a warning from the same manual:
A battery can explode if you do not follow the correct procedure, seriously injuring anyone nearby.

Had used couple of times, it works flawlessly. And can use it as regular battery pack also.

Only disadvantage with new gen battery pack jumpstarters are that they cannot start a completely dead battery, like car laying idea for many days with Zero battery.

Can you please share your long term use review of this jumpstarter?

Also, I noticed that the wires are very thin. Arent these supposed to be thick (low gauge) wires that dont melt away under the high current?
