Here's a dyno chart comparison on hp figures of various synthetic oils tested at an rpm range on the same engine.

This is off a performance tuning book that I was reading. Sorry about the poor quality.

sec 16, is just ahead of SEC 18 Noida.

When you come from shoprix, just turn right towards Atta and ask anyone.

Guys,

My Palio Stile SLX has done 9300 kms. I am planning on switching to fully synthetic - Mobil 1 or Shell.

Questions:

1. Is it too early for the switch?
2. What engine flush do you guys recommend?
3. The gear shift is a bit rough, especially downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. How do I check the gear oil?
4. Do I need to change the gear oil?
5. If the answer to Q4 is yes, then any recommendations on the brand?

Thanks for the help.

Cheers,
Rajan

Nope, around 10K kms would be perfect.

Considering that your Palio is relatively new, no need to use engine flush. If and when you do, try OWS.

Best for you to stick to Fiats service schedule.

Finally got the old mineral oil flushed with OWS engine flush.

In went the Shell fully Synthetic oil (approx. 4 liters). The oil had a lovely golden tinge to it which I noticed while filling.

Psychological or not, i feel the car is running smoother now. Revv's smoothly when floored, idle RPM has dropped a bit too, engine is quieter to an extent.

Got the oil change done on Sat near my residence.

Cost :

1. Shell Helix Ultra 4 Ltr can - INR 2830/-

2. OWS Engine Flush - 250ml can - INR 539/- (inclusive of 10% discount)

3. Oil Filter and Labor - INR 195/-

it will work but it is the lowest rating that is applicable for the innova whereas delvac is a good 2-3 grades higher than the highest rating for the innova.

Hi guys, need your help on the below please.
  1. How to check if the engine oil in my Safari Tdi needs changing.
  2. How to change the oil.
  3. What brand to buy and how much to buy.
Reason being I dont trust my mechanic with this, told him I will do it myself. Dont want to spend too much either.

Remove the oil dip stick and first check the oil level. The oil should be between the lower and upper markings (usually dots on lower and upper side of the dip stick). Once the level is ascertained, touch the oil and see if the oil is sticky, smudgy or blackish. Old oil generally will be very sticky and lumpy.

Get an old bucket to collect the old oil. Remove oil drain nut (check owners manual for exact location). Take care to see that it does not spill on you. If the engine is hot, oil can scald you seriously and can cause high degree burns. Use thick gloves and protective eye wear. Once the drain nut is removed and the oil is drained out completely, remove the oil filter (check manual for placement). Use the proper wrench to remove the old oil filter, let the oil drain (if not completed) and replace with new oil filter. Replace drain nut too.

Now fill fresh oil (open hood and locate the oil cap) and constantly check level on the dipstick. Discard old oil properly. Please dont pollute the environment.

Which oil and how many liters? Check your manual for grade and quantity. Then buy a similar grade oil from a reputed brand. Hope this helped.

I think its better to pay 100 bucks to get the oil and filter replaced at a local mechanics place than doing it yourself if you are a newbie. But source your own oil.
