Re: Project Yamaha Rx

I got mixed opinions on the forum on the difficulty levels of conversion of 4speedto 5speed from very easy to complicated. But one thing was common: You need a competent mechanic. So U really cant comment on this. But it should be cheaper than buying a stock 5speed for sure.

If you are sure of the bike, then you should go ahead IMO.

Note: Make sure that the papers are clean. Many Rx's have notorious pasts. I bought my Rx135 from an individual with clean papers. During my search I came across many bikes with insufficient papers and many with no papers.

Another thing I would like to share. The bike I purchased was looking good but had rust on the column where the chassis no is punched. I saw this many months later, when I wanted a chassis print to take an impression. The chassis print is not at all possible. Now I am stuck in a dilemma as to what should be done for the transfer. Make sure that you avoid such a situation.

I have posted my query on this here. Can someone throw some more light?: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorb...-required.html

depends as others said: if you need just a 5Speed GB? there are many possibilities. hope you are aware 5speed bore is different and the 5speed GB on that is optimized for extracting best from it.

Original 5 speed parts are not available anymore. The gearbox and the bore is non existent. Someone may give you a 'Dilli' made gearbox for a hefty price saying its 'ORIGINAL HAI' .

I would take that thing for 22k max. provided the engine is in good condition coz i'd want to go back to 18" wheels, get a proper tank, repaint the rear shocks, throw away the front pulsar set up. And all this is gonna cost more than 15k.

The engine is in great condition as its new, block and pistons are new, rear shocks are done powder coated, and front pulsar set up is ok with me for now.

I am thinking of buying this one and drive it for about 1/2 years and then go for the mods.

Re: Project Yamaha Rx

Great pick as 5 speeds are not worth for the price people are asking now days and 4 speed are good for city ride, good low and mid range grunt compared to 5 speeds.Ride it as it is and slowly get into issues and rectify one by one, dont modify just retain it as it is may be small mods like high compression head, free flow filter with bigger jets and digital CDi will be worth doing it.Keep away her from porting untill n unless some known tuner is doing it.

Re: Project Yamaha Rx

Wow wow!! Lucky you. During my search about 8 months ago I only came across one 1999 model and it wasnt worth it. Most of the bikes I saw were 1997 or 1998.

Congrats mate. Eager to see some pics of the beauty.
