Next time don't listen to the Bullet boys. Its just their devious way to keep you in sight.

450 kms on one tankful? Are you sure? That's around 50 kmpl bro assuming around 9 liters of usable fuel.

At 60 kmph in 6th the 390 experiences distinct chain snatch.

Re: My Flamberge (KTM Duke 390) Ownership report - A middle aged man's perspective

@ebonho - that is just a failed joke! THe MID was showing 42 kmpl FE. Hence the 450. The actual full tank FE was 31 kmpl.

It was quite painful to do 60 kmph on the 390. Was such a relief when I opened it up!

Re: My Flamberge (KTM Duke 390) Ownership report - A middle aged man's perspective

Riding normally, while touring, from tankful my 200 hits low fuel at around 270-280 kms.

Similar conditions, my test 390 would hit low fuel at around 200 kms.

So if you got around 270 odd kms from tankful on your 390, when riding normally, thats a lot. What speeds were you doing?

On the return, I was between 95-105. Filled about 9.2 Lt when I got back.

That's good to know bro. So at 95-105, how many kilometers did you get for those 9.2 liters consumed?

My average range of 200 kms between fills was at higher speeds, so this would be good info to have for econo touring and stretching the 390's range when needed.

Re: My Flamberge (KTM Duke 390) Ownership report - A middle aged man's perspective

If it helps my enthusiastic city riding always gives me close to 240kms when i fill around 9.5L brimfull.

This riding involves lots of traffic and fair bit of open roads when i hit 100 in 4th and be around 90-100 in 6th post that. Means good bit of acceleration and using 5th and 6th to maintain a decent 90-100.

The ride is mostly around 4th and 5th and still the last 6-7 refills have been around 240 easilly.

My guess is around 240 at 100kmph on highways. We are planning a ride this saturday the first for my 390 for a longer distance. Will confirm my expectation.

That sounds about right. I usually fill a lot earlier (i.e. within 10-15 kms of getting the low fuel warning) so most of my fills are 8.25-8.5 liters.

Once when I stretched it to 9.5 liters (like you), I got around 230 kms. But that was higher speeds, on the way back to Pune from Nagar (refueled at Shirdi, on the way back to Pune).

Oh sorry; Did about 250km before the fill up.

Re: My Flamberge (KTM Duke 390) Ownership report - A middle aged man's perspective

Just got back from a trip to Bangalore. Surprisingly, I managed a range of 270 KM on one tank. When I filled up, it took 10 litres, so I was dangerously close to emptying the thing. On the way back though, I only managed about 240 KM at which point I needed to fill 9.5 L which is more in line with my expectations of the bike's range.

Alright everyone, when does your low fuel warning come on? And I mean while riding, not when parked (that causes some false warnings). I get it at about 170 km.

Depends on how and where you ride FlyingSpur. I have had low fuel warning come up from as low as 156 kms on the trip during initial running-in to 200 kms on trip during the last 200 kms of running-in. Now it has stabilized to around 220-230 kms post running-in. This is on 80% highway riding with the remaining 20% on small single/two lane back roads. That 170 km you are getting must be for pure city riding?

My morning commute is a pure 6th gear, 10 km well-surfaced highway ride. My evening commute on the exact road is a pure 2nd / 3rd gear ride in crawling traffic. The bike stands at about 550 km, and I haven't crossed 7k even once, but rarely I do make the 0-7k RPM climb quickly. Also the fact that this thing doesn't like crawling in lower RPMs means one must constantly ride in a lower gear.

This type of riding is what I presume to be hitting your range most. Also, I have observed that post first start of the day, it takes around 10 kms for the bike's fuel consumption to average out to mid 20s. Prior to that it shows around 10-15 kmpl, probably due to it running richer initially.
