So one of the design flaws in the current KTM ADV is the headlight assembly. In case one puts any extra load on it in the form of the bigger windshield or a number plate bracket aux lamp mount it is bound to shake.

The Motouren neck brace solves this to some extent but its installation is tricky and its bolts keep on getting loose and need to be periodically checked unless loctite is used. There have been some cases where the clutch cable sheath had some cut marks due to improper installation.

But before you get it installed check the tightness of headlight assembly bolts. They might have become loose leading to increased headlight vibration.

My current setup with a rally replica windshield with extra support brackets and frame aux light mount is vibration-free for which the neck brace has some contribution. I could see increased vibration when the bolts got a little loose before fixing them semi-permanently using loctite.

Suggest you take a Test drive from Showroom on brand new bike. I had taken KTM 390 Adv rental at Leh on Ladakh trip, and i came back and test drove a new bike at showroom, it was day and night difference. Rentals are mostly abused and not very well maintained.

Also 390 with FuelX is a breeze in city Traffic. And its a great bike to ride on humps if you know to stand-up and ride on Adventure bikes.

And yes, Go for Adv if you plan to do some offroading too, as a pure highway ride, you might check other options also. Though many swear-by it as an highway cruiser.

Hi @rb2399, how long did your RK Takasago chain last? My stock chain is at 14.5k kms and needs tightening every 1000 kms even though I cleaned & lubed it regularly. It may go another 3k or 4k kms, at the most. Just out of curiosity, what is the average life of a 390 ADV chain sprocket?

I think the OE lasts for ~ 10-15K but it really depends on the way you maintain the chain irrespective of the brand.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

My Adv is currently at 18,000 km on odo and doing great. I had tried the Xpulse rear shock to negate the super-stiff stock rear suspension, and it was a good improvement albeit with a raised ride height. The shock is only 1 cm longer than the stock KTM one but made me tiptoe even on flat ground (I'm slightly over 5'8"). Also transferred more weight to the front which made the effort required at the handlebar quite a bit more, especially in traffic and offroad.

Recently swapped the Xpulse rear shock for the new adjustable one from KTM and WOW this is exactly what I've been looking for. Has really transformed the comfort level of the bike with the way it takes on road imperfections! I wish I had done this sooner. I haven't even tried the softer settings yet, the stock setting itself was good enough.

Thinking of getting one for my KTM ADV 250. The brace should work better on the ADV 250 due to fewer vibrations compared to ADV 390.
Sorry, I saw this late! Don't go for it. You add another layer to channel vibrations to the headlamp unit. It doesn't reduce the feeling of headlamp wobble. All it does is dampen the issue at lower rpm, but on the flip side, it channels a good amount of vibrations to the headlamp and dash console at higher speeds.

The jittery meter console when the bike struggles to breathe is a known issue on bigger bikes as well. In my case, it was the Multistrada 1260s.

I actually went ahead and got it installed long back.

It does help to reduce headlight wobble but it needs to be tightened properly and Loctite needs to be used so that the bolts dont get loose again.

I have not faced any high speed vibrations issue which could be due to the fact that the 250 does not vibrate much in the first place and also because of the extra support brackets mounted rally replica windshield which itself is not much prone to vibrations.

Thanks. I guess the reinforcement on the windscreen is the reason for lower vibrations on your bike. On my 390, the screen vibrations were unbearable. I had to remove the Moturren mounts. Moreover, it messes with the wires by leaving less play. By the way, how are the Dominar mirrors working?

The rally windshield is one of the reasons for reduced vibrations. As mentioned for the neck brace to work you need to torque the bolts properly. Also, it's not a magic solution and only works to a certain extent. If you have extra fog lamps or heavier market windshield or a phone/GPS mount the whole headlight assembly will shake due to the extra weight of these items.

Yup that it does. It managed to damage the clutch cable as well as take a little beating itself.

These are the best mirrors in terms of vibration characteristics. But now they have become super expensive and I am not sure whether one would want to spend 4K+ on them. I had got them long back to fit my hornet and already had them.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Hi All,

I own 2023 SW 390 ADV, I am looking to isolate the vibration impact at touch points.
These are the areas and suggestions I found on internet.

1. Handle bar buzz :
- Use vibration dampening handle grips
- Fill hallow handle bar with silicon gel
- Handle bar cross bar
- Gloves

2. Vibrations at foot pegs
- Add silicon gel layer between metal and rubber foot pegs
- Thick trekking socks, silicon gel insole.

3. Tank : ( noticeable only at higher RPM's )
- Use tank pads

Anyone tried these mods? if yes, could you provide feedback ?
or please suggest any ideas...

PS: I already installed:
- FuelX Pro + XP95
- using stock bash plate only, replaced all iron bolts with Steel + loctite.

Cross bar types do work well, with the caveat being they allow the fitment of the stock bar end weight. Filling silicone gel inside the gel, at least per me would only aggravate the vibes, primarily owing to uneven and added weight factor. Secondly wearing a glove reduces the buzz factor by a large factor, would strongly recommend a glove.

Again, no amount of silicone gel would be of absolve. Foot peg vibrations are a part and parcel of the bike, nothing can be done. Wearing good quality shoes/boots and getting used is the only way to go. If yours is a brand new bike, the vibes shall settle post the 3rd to 4th service.

If you're referring to vibrations here, then tank pads wouldn't be of absolve. Perforce to say, 100% of all singles and twins will vibrate or for that matter any IC combustion engine at specific RPMs with higher CC temperament singles topping the list. The ignition key cover is a flimsy plastic and does tend to vibrate for the most part, but that's mostly other than neatly finished plastics.

Good luck.

Cheers!

So, I got myself the Blurarmor C30 Bluetooth gadget. Most of my riding buddies use Sena, but I went for Blurarmor. Why? Because we don't ride together much, maybe just once a year. Plus, I take a lot of solo trips from my town to Hyderabad, and the C30 seemed like a good deal for what it offers at its price.

Hi, I would like to know how did you route the intercom connector which connects to the intercom itself, I just installed it today on my axor apex forged carbon helmet and I ran the wire through the left side strap hole cause that was the only way I found the wire to reach to the intercom unit in which the padding could go back in easily otherwise the padding wouldn’t sit properly.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

I have not had much time to motorbike in the past few months. However, I spent some time buying a helmet and an action camera. I hope this helps.

HeadFox Steelbird SBA-7 N2 Air Road: This budget-friendly Bluetooth helmet has a long battery life; I haven't tested it for long tours yet. I planned to buy a C30 intercom but then did a reality check. I seldom ride in groups. So this should do the job.

Osmo Action 4 camera: I actually wanted to buy a budget-friendly one since I dont vlog professionally. Unfortunately, the ones priced lower are not up to the mark in terms of 1080p video quality, and the premium ones are very expensive. I anyways was traveling to the US, so I decided to buy one there to save customs. (I think you can bring in products not exceeding INR 50000/- when you enter India back). So, I had to ditch the plan of buying a drone and an Android HUD for bikes. Both cost 30-40% less than what they cost in India.

Hello dear TBHPians, just brought home the Orange mayhem! ADV 390 Rally
Did a thorough PDI before finalising the bike but failed to notice one thing, I feel that the handlebar is very slightly tilted to the right.

Re: The KTM 390 Adventure Ownership Thread!

Anyone used/using Rox handlebar risers on the adv 390 ? I have an issue where the risers keep sliding down changing the handlebar position especially when you run over a pothole or a speed breaker.
