Re: How many bikers in here and what do you ride?

Posted on this thread over a year ago; never posted any pics.

Picked up an F650 last year in May. Was in pretty bad condition - busted crank and rear shock. Not quite sure how the previous owner(s) had messed these and so many other things up. Now fully redone; have lost track of how many new parts have gone into this bike. Completely repainted and shod with Metzeler Tourance Exp tires and is as good as new.

The RD was put together last year as well. Bought a Power Dynamo kit from Europe which is designed for the RD to replace the points system; can't believe how much it cost. But well worth it - bike starts first kick even after 2-3 weeks and runs beautifully.

The Blackbird remains the ride of choice. Rode from Bombay to Delhi last year to watch the F1 race. Was a superb ride. The attached photo is from this ride while returning to Bombay.

Had to clean out the carb on 2 or 3 ocassions due to the dust in the fuel.[ Still have that bike though]

Re: How many bikers in here and what do you ride?

Still to go through the rest of the thread, so kindly ignore me if I'm not following a specific format for this thread.

Although I'm more active on this forum on behalf of my 4-legged VW monster, it's my 7+ year old 150 cc pulsar that I live buy. This bike has been my companion in close to 10 states, and 50k+ kilometers. States covered - Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal - it has never failed me.

I wonder if it is possible to shed off a few kilos and make this a more lighter, meaner bike that I can choose to go on off-track roads. Any suggestions?

Re: How many bikers in here and what do you ride?

Well I've always been fascinated with bikes. The bikes I've owned so far are-

1-Inherited an old Scooty ES from my mother when i turned 18.Bike was basically lying around in our garage so fixed it up and rode it for a few months and then sold it.
2-Royal Enfield Thunderbird 2011-Folks gifted me this bike when i got my license. The Scooty was used during the painfully long waiting period that the Thunderbird put me through. Its my current ride.
3-1974 Ideal Jawa 250-Bought this bike a few weeks back.Technically this is my "First bike" as i paid for it.The bike is in running condition and starts in the first kick.Still has the original paint job (military green colour).Any Jawa owners/experts in Chennai? Need some assistance to go any further.

Only 3 bikes owned so far as I'm only 19.Hope to add a few more to my garage in the upcoming years!

I initially started riding my dads lambretta when I was around 15 years and was never allowed to ride a bike!
Got hold of my brothers 1989 Rx100 in the year 2003 when he left for USA and used it upto 2007.
2007-todate Honda Activa
2010 may - 2012 may Yamaha fazer New
2012 may - to date Honda Activa New

I prefer automatic scooter anytime during peak hour traffic.

Looking out for a used 250cc bike or might go in for a used Harley Davidson if I get it cheap!

Re: How many bikers in here and what do you ride?

Bought my first bike in 2006 and have kept the same bike ever since. I bought the Hero Honda Achiever, a bike that has been one of the sales flops for HH. Of the 100 bikes or so I have ever seen, 95 or so have been in showrooms.

My brother on the other hand rides superbikes. His first bike was a Ninja 900, then an R6, an R1, a GSX-R 750 and now a Ninja ZX-10R. He changed the bike every two years or so (I may be wrong on what bikes he has owned, but it sounds about right to me). He is also a California Superbike School coach which has nurtured the interest in bikes or possibly it is vice versa.

Re: How many bikers in here and what do you ride?

1992-1995 : Hero Puch, Damn I still love it for way it used to Breeze through the traffic.

1995-Present : Yezdi Roadking. It has been my faithful full blown ride, never looked back since. But lack of genuine spares are forcing me to look at other options. May be an Orange monkey. Have to make up my mind.

2010-Present : Jawa 1972. This is my OTHER vehicle, used sparingly.

2009-2011 : Jawa 1971. My mech died of illness during the restoration and when I finally laid my hands on it, the engine was not in his shop. His subordinate manged to put back all the parts, but the engine number was not matching with the records. So with a great heartburn, dismantled the bike for goodsake. Never wanted somebody to ride an illegal bike just for the sake of some money.

Re: How many bikers in here and what do you ride?

First and only bike: 1991 Yamaha RX 100 (just turned 18 last year).

My uncle has a RX 100 too, and I learned to ride on it. I knew the first time I rode it that I would end up buying an RX myself. After a lot of searching and haggling, I got my hand on a RX100 which was in pretty good condition, everything stock and 16k kilometers on the odometer. A little bit of polish and some new seat covers and the bike was as good as new. Only small niggling issues like the speedometer light not working, and fuel/oil leak(tiny droplets, unable to determine the cause). Gives me about 30-35 km/l on average, which is fine with me as I only ride it to college which is 15 kilometers a day.

Max speed I've reached is ~100km/h but just for a fleeting second, after which the bike starts vibrating and prancing around.

One thing about this bike is that it is one of the best bikes to learn on, it weights just 100kg's and is probably one of the easiest bikes to maneuver in traffic. And the best part is that people still turn around to look at the bike as they see it roaring past them.

Next Bike: Either the Ninja 300R or the Duke 390.
