There was a report in 1996 issue of 'AUTO INDIA' that a new yezdi (jawa)is going to be launched. It was supposed to have a 250 cc engine developing 16 bhp. Even its picture was given, it was very good. The predicted price was about 70 ks. And it was in collaboration with a foreign partner.

Last I heard, the workers themselves wanted to buy the company & run it.

The factory has been sold(it closed down in 1996) and the people who bought it, auctioned off the remaining bikes/parts/machinery etc and then razed the buildings down. There is nothing at the site now - sadly, YEZDI has been fully confined to the history books for now.

Some die hard fans still run the bikes, but for how long?

Frankly i was slightly excited on seeing the thread and the opening post with a webite adress,i thought maybe a (filthy rich!!) individual/corparate may have revived this brand!

I was never a big fan of this brand (slight inclination towards Bullet and Rd),but now i feel like owning one....just to preserve a piece of history.

Spares are really not an issue atleast for now(if you know where to look)

The best things i like abt the Yezdi was the way the front wheel, used to spin clock wise, then anti clockwise and so on and on and on every time it was put on the main stand..

Really i mis all these bikes as was teen that time and riddedn almost all makes of Yezdis including the 350 cc version on Yezdi which was suppose to take on with Rajdoot RD350 ,
I mis all these legends including Fury, Sportif(i doubt if any one knows this tiny but ultra modern moped for that time).
Still i have RD with me, its 84 make HT first of initial 500 produced in India.
BTW still you wants to own Jawa its produced in Chez republic but u have to pay a bomb for that.

Their erstwhile factory in Mysore is being converted to a mall - very difficult to manufacture bikes in a mall I think

It still was competition. when you have only 4-5 bikes to choose from. This is called competition.

What a din those Yezdi's used to make, when one of the neighbourhood big boys used to ride in late in the night!
BTW, did any other bike use the same lever for a kick start and for the gear shifter?

i still remember the time when i took my CL-II to college in my first year and promptly got pulled up by the seniors for "showing off in college by bringing a yezdi"

one of the seniors demanded a ride, got me off the bike, he got onto it and spent a good 15-20 seconds searching for something....he then asked me with a puzzled expression on his face "where on earth is the kick starter?"
