Re: The Yamaha 'RX' Thread (with pics)

Piston rings could also make a rattling sound once it gets loose due to wear. In that case you will have to move to the next size piston.

Please confirm it with the mechanic before you suggest an oversize piston.

Re: The Yamaha 'RX' Thread (with pics)

I recently got my 1999 RX 135 restored completely to stock condition (except the carrier and the yezdi rim). Even though I stay in Bangalore , I got the restoration job done in Shimoga ( Karnataka) since I knew a trusted mechanic there. Have attached a few pictures. Unfortunately I do not have any photos of the bike before the bike was rebuilt.

^^^ Congrats preetham.hs! You have a very beautiful bike. Take good care of her and you'll cherish every moment riding her.

Just one suggestion - get yourself a butterfly type crash guard. It'll add to your safety as well as the looks.

Why did you say the crash guard is no original?

Thanks,
Jose.

Wow pretam. Amazing job. I am also getting my Rx135 restored. It should be done in 2 weeks.

What parts did you change? How long did it take?

Re: The Yamaha 'RX' Thread (with pics)

Thanks Jose and Spike,

Jose, I was referring to the assist grip behind the seat and not the crash guard. I had the stock grip replaced with a carrier (a carrier similar to the ones we find behind a bicycle) during my engineering days to help me carry a notebook to college :-). Its more than 10 years since I got lost deep down in the corporate jungle and the carrier now is no more than a cosmetic add-on.

I agree with you on the butterfly type crash guard and I will get the current one replaced shortly.

Spike,
RX135 had to go through the following.

1. Paint and chrome for the entire vehicle. The old color was maroon but I chose black while repainting since I was worried if I would get the exact shade of maroon.
2. Remove dents from the tank\ exhaust pipe etc and acid wash for the tank.
3. Replaced ignition set as well as locks on fuel cap and storage box.
4. indicators, horn, tyres, spokes, headlight have been replaced.
5. complete engine knockdown and rebuild + new bore kit. The mechanic has tuned the engine to perfection and the engine feels and sounds like brand new.
6. Replaced all pipes, cables etc.

I was lucky to have access to a reputed automobile store owned by a close relative in Shimoga and he either had the spares with him or helped me source them from other locations. I will get the exact location for the spares and will share with you later. My relative supervised the entire restoration since I stay in Bangalore and also obviously since he had more knowledge than I do. The mechanic too was a very knowledgeable guy and is one of the best i have met so far.

Thanks benzinblut, The whole operation took 2 months !. Good luck with your restoration. Do PM me if you need any help or information. I will try to do my best.

Re: The Yamaha 'RX' Thread (with pics)

Thanks preetam.

Not many Rx135s ive seen have that crisp Rx beat. RX135 never had a beat as sharp as the Rx100s. How does your bike sound? Is it close to the 100s?

Has it affected lower/mid/high range in any way?

but dont worry. RX can still be bought. Just keep your eyes open.

Mine is a RXG fitted with RXZ exhaust and meters. Do give your honest opinion on it.

Re: The Yamaha 'RX' Thread (with pics)

Hey thanks. About the stickers, its a matter of personal liking. I wanted a classic Yamaha look and these stickers provide the typical 70's-80s Yamaha theme.
