In my opinion, it is better to keep the drum brake in the front. Use good imported brake shoes like EBC and it will give better braking efficiency than a custom disk set up. Further, big drum brake in the front matches the classic look of RD.

Regarding the air filter, use the original airbox that comes with RD for its authentic bass.

Please find below the part numbers for EBC brake shoes

Front- Y513
Rear- Y514

Re: Is it worth buying a Yamaha RD350 now?

I rode almost 1,500 kms with the new rear shocks bought from Yambits. The shocks are slightly softer than the stock one. The ride quality is in another league compared to the stock ones. Can do 200kms nonstop trips easily. The price is also reasonable. It costs 41 pounds which is roughly 3,800 rupees for pair. Now a days, reconditioned escorts shocks (selling as new one) costs 8K.

Low quality cables available in India are the major culprit for breakdowns. Got OE Made in Japan clutch cable for RD. Price is 1,500 rupees. The quality is awesome. Please find below the part number.

Bought brand new genuine Mikuni VM28 carburetor for my RD. Carburetor is available in Mikunioz.com (authorized distributor of Mikuni carbs in Australia). The price is 8,600 rupees. I bought jets separately (140 and 25).

Re: Is it worth buying a Yamaha RD350 now?

Did a Kodaikanal trip in RD. Total distance was 500 kms. RD performed flawlessly in the ghat section due to its light weight and peppy acceleration. The average I got was 24 kmpl (tested by full tank to tank method). My RD is running on points.
