Re: Royal Enfield - Troubleshooting and technical support thread

Have you checked whether the choke lever is in the off position?

Yes.. The choke lever is the off position only. Though I did try with on/off but no improvement.
Thanks

Hope you checked for spark. Just take the plug out and see if you get a clear strong strike.

Inspect the spark plugs or probably it needs a carburetor clean up, the slide inside it must have worn out. You need mechanic's help.

Re: Royal Enfield - Troubleshooting and technical support thread

Sorry for the delayed response. A change of spark plug fixed the issue.

Re: Royal Enfield - Troubleshooting and technical support thread

Hi All,

I have 2009 Thunderbird twinspark which has been completely rebuilt with all new parts inside engine except gears. I have changed everything inside the engine including cam wheels, piston, crank resetting, valves, oil pump, hydraulics, rockers, timings gears, magnet, clutch, spar clutch, starter motor, etc etc...

The bird is super smooth and doesn't have any issues and has been accompanying me in my long rides. Recently I had taken my bird to a road trip which was 420 kms in 9 hours and observed that 0-60 will be super quick and no issues, 60-80 will be easy however 80- 90 will be ok, but bike struggles to go post 90.

when it reaches 90 kmph and I increase the throttle bike refuses to go beyond 90 and feels pulling backwards. Can someone help me with this issue?

Sounds like a Vacuum piston issue. Would be a good place to start.

I got confused with engine piston

I understand that I have to check carburetor diaphragm, but carburetor is also new and just driven for 5000 kms

It's a simple motorcycle either your fueling is amiss or you're not getting good enough spark at higher RPM's. If you're 100% certain that your fueling is not the issue then run the motor without the spark plug cap and keep the wire at a quarter of an inch away from the SP, you can observe spark now and make sure that it is not weak, give the motorcycle more revs and see if spark is consistent, if not then you need to work your way up from the SP to the CDI.

This video would give you an idea;

Hope that helps.

CDI?. Looks like you have problem with your timing advance.

This morning took my bird to a water wash and after that bike didn’t start, after inspection it was found that there is no current in the spark plug wire. After swapping the cdi unit bike started like charm. So if cdi was the issue now the bike should be able to go beyond 90kmph

I will check and update you guys.

That's good, it's one more thing out of the way.

Just stating the obvious here;

Spark Plug>Spark Plug Cap>HT Cable>Ignition Coil>CDI

But before you go down that path it's always good to check the Pulser/Pickup Coil just to stay ahead of Murphy.

Since yours is a UCE motorcycle I am a bit skeptical about your timing going off, only possibility for Ignition Timing to go off is if you use the Wrong Magnet, and the only possibility of the Valve Timing going off is if the cams were set by an absolute novice cause there are timing marks that are really hard to miss.

Having said that, the UCE's did come with a TPS switch, if you do some searching you'd find more info about it on this very forum shared by Jim if I'm not wrong. I'd only mentioned the TPS switch cause it's always best to go with the path of least resistance and expense.

Hope that helps.

Re: Royal Enfield - Troubleshooting and technical support thread

Hi All

Update - got starter coil changed. I was facing starting issue with self start, when I hit self button starter coil was just clicking.

Got CDI and ignition coils replaced which was causing a misfire. now the bike is super smooth and got very good pickup, yet to check the top speed. Not sure if these will solve the top speed issue.

Will update once I check the top speed.
