The M8's price would have been easier to accept if the car had 6 airbags, keyless entry, push button start, auto wipers, auto headlamps and auto dimming IRVMS - features that a top variant car in this segment should have.
However when you compare the M8's price with Innova Crysta 2.4 V you start seeing things in a different perspective and it becomes a little bit easier to digest the price.

Re: Mahindra Marazzo : Official Review

I don't know if anybody noticed but the 2019 M8 is pricier than 2018 M8 by around 40,000 ex-showroom. Current Bangalore on-road price of Marrazo 8 seater is 18.13 lakhs. Not sure about other variants. But M2 seems to have no increase. Also interesting to note that M2 8 seater is is priced same as M2 7 seater both under 10 Lakh.

Re: Mahindra Marazzo : Official Review

Mahindra Marazzo coming in an AMT variant soon, torque convertor automatic variant would join in a little later, most likely with an upgraded BS-VI engine.

Quote:
Mahindra has rethought the Marazzo automatic’s launch time. Since the BS-VI engine is still some time away and will come close to the April 2020 deadline, the company will introduce an AMT gearbox on the Marazzo soon as a stop-gap measure till the upgraded engine arrives

When the better selling competition (Ertiga) comes with a TC for lesser price, AMT isn't a smart choice by Mahindra. AMT technology may have come a long way and may have improved their jerky nature but still AMT doesn't come close to a TC in terms of smoothness in gear shifts and lag.

Considering the price of even the lowest variant of Marazzo is around 13L on road in Bangalore, the AMT version would set us back by 50k more. Next to top - ZXI variant - of Ertiga is 11.5L.

Surprised that the Jalopnik take on the Marazzo during the 2019 NAIAS has not been shared here.

Well this was always their plan. The showrooms used to say that to prospective customers. In fact I booked a Marazzo in December 2018 without waiting for a 2019 manufactured vehicle is because of this expected price hike.

Re: Mahindra Marazzo : Official Review

India’s first modified Mahindra Marazzo is here

Quote:
While buyers of the Marazzo have the option of getting their vehicle’s interiors customized by DC Design, exterior modifications for the MPV wasn’t offered through this package. Now though, that has changed with a Kerala-based car modifying outfit called Tuners Edge coming up with a body kit for the Marazzo.

The body-kit equipped Mahindra Marazzo looks like a low rider. The front and rear bumper have extensions that make the MPV look sharper than the stock version. Of course, the extensions do result in a lower ground clearance and the driver of a Marazzo modified thus has to be careful of tall speed breakers and steep ramps.

The MPV also gets side skirts which give it a low rider look. The alloy wheels are of a different design and there’s a roof spoiler at the rear that adds a sporty touch to the modification. Last but not the least, the front bumper sees a new daytime running LED surrounding the fog lamps.

And interestingly, this is based on the base M2 variant, and not a higher variant.

Even I was thinking about the VFM factor of Ertiga, until I drove the Marazzo.

The car is so quite and insulated on the inside, the suspension also does work silently.

Positives for paying 5lacs extra:
1) Better built than Ertiga. add a lac for this
2) Noise insulation from tyre and engine - 25k
3) Better engine in diesel - add 50k
4) All wheel disc - add 20k
5) Wider tyres - add 10k
6) Few more -centralised ac, window shades etc etc- 50k
Total around 3 lacs is justified.

Negatives:

1) Resale like maruti.
2) Automatic
3) Exterior looks subjective. (lose or gain)
4) Maruti ASS.
5) Lose more $$.
6) No power fold mirror in mid variants, said can't be retrofitted.
7) Slightly smaller boot.

Yet, if the automatic is anywhere like Nexon AMT, it will sell well.

The basic thing that works against Mahindra is 3rd row and boot space, both of which are important for an MPV buyer. The Ertiga has an advantage here. Also while the diesel mill on Ertiga makes lesser power, its more fuel efficient! As city only car, Ertiga with its compact dimensions and monocoque construction is the one that is easier to drive. Both cars have their fare share of positives and negative and 3 lac is a big money at this price point. When Maruti gets 1.5L diesel mill things are going to get tougher for Marazzo.

Is the new Ertiga's 3rd row better than the Marazzo's? How did I ever get a different impression

Anyway, wouldn't the Marazzo have better overloadability (for lack of a better term), with it being a body on frame type? I have an impression that Body on Frame vehicles don't sag and lose Ground Clearance that much under heavy loads whereas monocoques do.

For my height with 2nd row pushed further I found the Ertiga 3rd row decent place to be. You can also recline the back rest.
Also check: https://www.autocarindia.com/car-com...parison-411642

Body on frame has its own positives. Like as you mentioned should be able carry more load, without sagging much or bottoming out. But then a Monocoque will have better driving dynamics in city and also on twisties. It also takes lesser effort to drive a monocoque.

Add to that - body on frame vehicles offer better ride comfort - reason - in monocoques the suspension top mount is directly fitted to chassis/cabin using rubber as the cushioning material. In body on frames , suspension top mount - subframe - ladder frame - body , where rubber/polymer cushioning mounts will be plenty. Also one of the reasons why body on frames feel 'not-tight enough' in corners or sudden lane changes.
