Thank you very much bijims for your positive recommendation! We brought home the Sonet D AT last week... The car needs a good service as its been 10 months and almost 8k km since the last service was carried out. So, Planning to give the car for service this week.

Took the time to deep clean the interiors as it was quite dusty and realised that black interiors are not that easy to maintain as claimed as dust is attracted faster and settles faster on black interior somehow! I also bought new Bosch wipers as the old ones were torn and new door visors which my dad likes.

We're also looking for good 3D mats along with a Boot mat/tray. How are the 3D mats sold by KIA? I use the Hyundai 3D mats on my venue and they are quite good and durable.

As of now I'm getting between 13-14kmpl average fuel efficiency. Once the service is done, I believe the FE would settle between 14-15kmpl nicely.

Cheers!

This being a 'big' engine, please be aware that the city average would hover between 11 - 13 kmpl only. I doubt you'll get anything better. Having said that, the same engine shines on the highway and for sure you'll be able to extract a good 18 kmpl + on highway under sedate driving conditions.

My average used to be 14 - 16 kmpl with 70% highway + 30% city driving.

Trust me, it's a gem of an engine and that drivetrain is simply phenomenal. Forget the mileage figures and just enjoy the drive. I'm sure you'll be happy everytime you take it out.

Sigh! So finally, the 'ugly' fang-ed look is persistence in the Indian variant too. What good thing they did with the Seltos FL , they goofed it up for the Sonet's.

We might see M&M doing away with this look in the XUV300 FL and sadly Kia is taking it from there.

Anyway, let's see how the car looks in flesh. That tiny bit of faith in Kia's design team is still there though.

On the interiors, there seems to be very minimal change. They should have really gotten rid of that thick slab of the AVN + Speedo console. It really sticks out like a sore thumb in a Sonet which in itself is low on interior space. The sleek unit of the Seltos FL would have just added to the whole feel-good factor of the interiors. And I'm sure the top-end GTX+ would come with the 'black' roof-liner coupled with all black theme to make matters claustrophobic.

The ONLY appreciable change looks to be the change in the HVAC controls and the speedometer which seems to be carried from the Seltos FL maybe.

Good to see that they've retained the fog lamps and not followed their sibling in this matter. Anyway, I doubt how beneficial they would be based on their size. They might just 'be-there' for namesake.

Finally, good to see the return of the much useful rear arm-rest.

Re: Kia Sonet : Official Review

Hope they bring back MT in all trims like with the original launch. There was a rumor that KIA is going to bring back MT for both Seltos & Sonet due to dip in sales. Don't know if that was true or not.

Kia should do the following improvement in the facelift -

- Sort out the artificial weight of the steering and make the car more connected to the road.

At present there is an artificial weight to the steering but it does not feel connected to the tyre/road!

If they do this, they would have made the car a lot more driver friendly.

The artificial "weight" IMO is to deal with the lack of feedback perhaps, like give a "sporty" feeling. None of the Hyundais (as far as I know) have steerings with good feedback, that's their sore spot. It's not a deal breaker for me, but I wish they didn't had so much artificial weight to the steering at low speeds.

Re: Kia Sonet : Official Review

Hello All,

Suddenly had this query when looking at my Sonet registration documents. It is mentioned as Hatchback on type of vehicle. then why are we at 28% on GST? (To my knowledge hatchbacks and small cars fall under the 18% GST).
I could be wrong as well, experts on this topic can shed light and enlighten me.
Thanks

Re: Kia Sonet : Official Review

Does anyone know what is the cost for 5 year extended warranty and 5 year maintenance package for existing Sonet? Like Hyundai Venue will be 20k combined for both (Warranty + SOT) together, is it similar or significantly higher in case of Kia Sonet?

I recently paid around 17k for the 3 year / 30000 maintenance package for my Sonet. Not sure about the extended warranty cost though.

That's a bit on the higher side right? Is this after the free service period?

All cars have 28% GST, its the cess that differs, and that also depends on length and Engine cc, not on classification as hatchback or suv.

I got this during my 1-year service. For 50,000/5 yrs they quoted around 27k. My initial calculation seem to suggest I might not save anything, but this package also includes polishing and interior deep cleaning as well, so I guess it will break-even after 3 years.

I think it's the Flexi, that has labor, wheel balancing, oil, filter and couple of other things. Per my calculation, it will come to around 6k per service, so I will most likely save about 1k at the end of 30k.

Add to that you can choose underbody coating or polishing and one more option.
