Wow! That's interesting.

And was it a faulty battery all 3 times or they were able to pin point to something in the car? 3 faulty batteries in a row sounds highly unlikely to me.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

For the first and second battery changes, they didn't find any errors. However, the third time I escalated the issue to their higher management, they claimed it was due to my installed dash cam. The dash cam was plugged into the USB port and not hard-wired to the battery. Despite this, they blamed the dash cam and closed my case. It is very frustrating when you are ready to go somewhere and your car won't start because the battery is drained.

I mentioned a few posts back that one of the USB ports in Safari is in 'always on' mode. That's the one at the front under center console ahead of the gear lever and higher variants have wireless charger there. My dashcam is powered from the 12V socket under arm rest and that goes off as soon as car is turned off. Did you check the front USB port if it goes off after car is turned off /locked?

That's really strange. I have my battery changed recently after 3 years and 9 months of owning the car. And I also use Dashcam from Day 1.

My dashcam is also plugged in one of the USB port which is placed under the armrest and I never had any issues. My particlar 2020 model used to have 2 USB-A ports under the armrest which was later on changed to 1 USB-A and 1 USB-C later on. Can you tell us which port you were using for powering the dashcam and did you check whether that port is drawing the power even if the car is locked.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

I have a plugin in the armrest port, not in the always-on port. I also forgot to mention that when I bought my car, I had a Viofo dashcam installed. After the installation, I was getting a "key not found" error and the car was not able to start. When I went to the service center, they found out that the battery was not taking the load of the dashcam because whenever they removed the plug from the USB socket, the car would start. When it was plugged in, the error would appear again. So, I returned that camera and bought a 70mai, which is working without any issues.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

New colors options available in Safari now. I wish Tata adds red color from Harrier to Safari. The red Safari would look awesome.
  • Smart - Stardust Ash, Galactic Sapphire
  • Pure - Stardust Ash, Galactic Sapphire
  • Adventure - Lunar Slate
  • Accomplished - Lunar Slate, Supernova Copper

Smart, Pure and Adventure variant - New colors

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

43k Happy Kilometers!

2021 Tata Safari Review-43k.jpeg

Just completed 43k kms on my Safari XZA+ ADV without any issues!!!

Absolutely no issues regarding reliability mechanically or electronically. I even hit a small pole while parking in the city and got a small dent on the rear passenger side door, fixed it for just 3500rs from my FNG, the owner is himself a car enthusiast and mechanical engineer and had worked in VW for a good time, has proper tools and man power for the work, got my car back in under 36 hours.
The car has performed flawlessly in all my trips, be it within city or on the highways. The music system deserves a mention it has a good base and overall quality feels nice only issue being the last row occupants need the volume to be at a higher level for proper listening otherwise flawless. Mileage mostly hovers around 13-14 KMPL and on long highway drives I was able to extract upwards of 18 KMPL , I drive in ECO mode 90% of the time the other 10% being occupied by the sport mode need some adrenaline rush.
The service cost comes around 15k for every 15k kilometers, I only go in for the 15k service and don't go for the middle 7.5k services, top up my DEF as per requirement at any petrol station. No issues at the service centers too just that they can't clean the car as good as my local car detailing workshop, so I opt out for it everytime I go in for service.
Also I want ask about the extended warranty - has anyone taken it? My service advisor has insisted to take it specially since I have an automatic, which he says will make trouble down the line.

The car parked on a rural road in Rajasthan.

Some people question the car's reliability and have heard horror stories myself also but I personally haven't had any trouble in my 1.5 years of ownership, given the chance I will buy it again with all the new bells and whistles except the tubelight in front.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

I want to know the actual numbers/ percentages of Tata cars that develop major issues. Is it really big, or are they just reported more aggressively?
We have owned 5 Tata cars and have not faced any issues, neither have anyone I know who own one.

I opted for extended warranty after seeing the struggles of multiple service centers with the rear radar sensor (eventually resolved). Many Tata service centers tend to go for a part replacement where cheaper methods (like recalibration in my case) are available.
Extended warranty is always better for an expensive and complex car like the Safari. You may never need a claim, but then there are others who've had to shell out lakhs in repair because they did not have an extended warranty.

I would caution you about your service practice though: Your extended warranty claim can get rejected because you did not do periodic maintenance with the "manufacturer recommended frequency" of 6 months. Just find out about this from Tata (preferably in writing) before you pay for an extended warranty. No point buying extended warranty if it is not likely to be honoured.

I have my dashcam plugged in the USB slot in the Dash panel. The power goes off a few minutes after you lock the car.

Re: 2021 Tata Safari Review

You are right. I also tested this again yesterday. The port is powered as long as the car is unlocked. It switches off short while after the car is locked.

Hi @mailtoansh,

I got this warning light (low pressure) today. I drove only a few kms after that and was watchful and careful on other parameters. Did not really face any issue as such but will look again when I have time tomorrow.

Can you share what was the solution to this problem?

Thanks!

Hello,
I visited the service center and they removed it by connecting the laptop as usual.

Not sure what your service advisor mean by that! You cannot generalise probable faults just on what you think. It is almost akin to saying "please take cancer insurance as you are nearing 50 and it will cause you trouble"

If maintained well, the vehicle not unnecessarily abused with all scheduled servicing being adhered to, I think the chances of the automatic transmission failing are limited. The Hyundai sourced, Aisin made 6-speed torque converter in the Harrier / Safari cousins is quite reliable with no sudden/abnormal failures reported. The clutch pack scheduled replacement, which is expensive, is i think around the 1-lakh kilometre mark(??). Not sure whether that is covered under extended warranty as it is a wear & tear part. You may want to budget for that separately.
