Same thoughts as yours. I guess the composition is probably 40% rubber and 60% plastic to retain the shape. Planning to get a small vinyl/ mat cut and put beneath the co passenger seat to avoid dust getting there.

If there's anything that can be an upgrade over the 3D Mats offered as accessory, it is the one by Pharaoh(3D Kagu earlier). Its fit and finish is just excellent and worth every penny that's spent. The GFX mats look cheap IMO and doesn't justify it's place in this car.

I had a very similar incident. Bought 2 Honda Activa from Anand Honda in Bommasandra. One blue for my cousin sister who recently moved to Bangalore and one white for my wife. The delivery was just 2 days after booking and time taken was for formalities. The day of delivery, blue one was fine overall, but the white one found to be repainted on a couple of spots plus a few scratches here and there and we were lucky to have spotted those. Raised to the SA and the manager and they sent for replacement of the said panels (front and headlight panel), once they came back after replacement, while they were fine, the main body panel had scratches, which was so weird as they were not originally present. The manager surprisingly was ok sending that for replacement as well. I wasn’t sure how they were ok doing that but they were and when the vehicle returned, the service guy told us they changed all the panels and we wouldn’t have any complaints now.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

Hi All, I am looking to get some features unlocked in my Virtus 1.0 Topline AT. Is there any reliable source in Hyderabad to get it done?

Also, saw one YouTube video that has enabled boot opening control in the infotainment screen, haven't seen that in any other video.

Hi, you can check with Mr Varun (contact: +91 9441117189 ) he can do it in hyderabad. A few of my friends got their Taigun/Polo coded from him and were quite happy with it.

I have done a lot of tweaks with the VCDS cable I obtained from USA. Personally I refrained from doing the boot control in infotainment screen because it’s dangerous and could lead to unwanted incidents. FYI: The infotainment control overrides central locking mechanism and can be opened at any vehicle speeds.

Purchase decision overview/Buying experience

We didn't have the Virtus GT in mind initially when looking for a new car. Test drove the i20 Asta DCT, Sonet Diesel AT and DCT. We did briefly look at the Harrier but we decided it was too big for us and our running did not warrant a diesel and the costs associated with it, DPF issues with modern diesels was the final nail in the coffin. I found the aforementioned Hyundai and Kia cars to be of high quality and did consider buying the i20 Asta DCT as we all agreed that the Sonet did not justify the price premium and that the i20 a had slightly better rear seat and almost equally good boot space for our use case(mostly short drives in the city with less than 10 airport and 5 long drives a year). My dad being a safety freak and equipped with the knowledge that I was not a sedate driver wasn't convinced with the decision of buying a Hyundai/Kia even though we agreed they have come a long way in terms of safety. My mom also thought the road presence to price ratio of the i20 was low and the hunt was on again. This time safety was the priority and after briefly discussing the Nexon we thought the automatic(my dad had to be able to drive it in case he needed to, having driven automatics most of his life outside of India we weren't sure if he could handle the hassle of shifting and keeping up with the Indian traffic without exerting himself) was not a great option even though it ticked the safety box. Me and my dad agreed that nothing could come close to the VW cars when it came to safety for that price and the 1.5 EVO engine and DSG combo was just the cherry on top of the cake. We booked a test drive on the VW website and I received a call from Mody VW and they brought home a blue Virtus GT. Even though I had seen the car on the road sometimes, looking at the car up close it was just beautiful with the clean lines and proportioned just right, although I believe the wheels could have been a bit bigger to complete the package. The test drive was less than half an hour through the city and most of the time was spent in low-moderate traffic with occasional open stretches. I told the sales rep that I wanted to hit some speed breakers and some bad patches somewhat hard to see how it handles bad patches and he asked me to go for it. There were four people in the car and it never came close to bottoming out even when I was trying to. The sales rep told us that only white and silver were available for immediate delivery and red, gray had at least a 3 month wait and blue, yellow had a wait of 2 months. I wanted to check out the cars in-person to decide between white and reflex silver. I reached the showroom and we drove to the stockyard and service center almost 20 kilometers away in a 1.0 Taigun. This was an opportunity to rethink my decision as I didn't even think about the Taigun till that point. I was told that the Taigun GT was 80k more expensive than the Virtus GT and it had lesser boot space and 9mm more ground clearance. Seemed like a no-brainer to me to save 80k and get the larger more handsome looking car. After reaching the yard I decided that that even though the white and silver were kind of similar from afar the silver had some sheen to it and some glistening particles in the paint(I'm guessing it's metallic water based paint). Went with the silver and took delivery in about 10 days when my dad was coming to India which gave us more than enough time to get the loan stuff sorted out. We took my dad straight from the airport to the showroom which was on our way home and took delivery at close to 10 PM. I should thank our sales representative Nagaraju from Mody VW for arranging delivery at such an hour. Since most of the showroom staff left home the delivery experience was uneventful but it never did not feel not special. They only left me with 30kms of fuel in the car, considering that the showroom was kind of away from the city and it was 10 PM it would have been decent of them to leave a bit more fuel in thaa car.

Initial ownership experience

I checked with the staff of the showroom if there was any running-in period with the car as I was planning on taking it on a 500-kilometer round trip a couple of days after buying it. Our sales rep confirmed that there wasn't any running-in period and that many customers take delivery and routinely drive home more than 500 kilometers away. I did not push the car beyond 120 kmph on the trip. Even though the steering it kind of light at low speeds, it weighs up beautifully at highway speeds and it felt like a tank at those speeds. Having driven close to 200 kmph for long stretches at a time in other countries in some great cars I could tell that the Virtus GT was designed for munching miles on the highway. The 500 kilometer trip was uneventful and there were a couple of bad stretches of road that worried me on the onward journey that I absolutely flew past on my return journey even through it was dark because of how well the car took those stretches earlier. I was barely tired at the end of the day after a 500 kilometer trip.
Akin to my favorite car review channel Carwow's "This leads me to 5 annoying things about the Virtus GT".

Cons

  1. The mileage is a pain, I routinely get between 6 or 7 in the city and even though I have gotten between 16-18 on the highway runs, since most of my running is in the city the mileage really hurts the wallet.
  2. During high speeds when I hit a bump that is unavoidable there is heart-wrenching thud from the front suspension.
  3. The annoying front driver window which I haven't gotten fixed because they said it would at least add a couple of hours to the service time and I had a trip lined up right after the service. I also noticed that during this service they filled close to 1 liter of engine oil.
  4. The DSG is sometimes confused in traffic and hangs on to gears longer than required. This is surprising as it sometimes upshifts to 3rd and 4th on some very steep slopes fully loaded.
  5. The high beams and sometimes the AC do not match the standard of the car.

Pros

  1. There is no better car around 20 lacs that can drop a gear and disappear and handle winding roads in its stride.
  2. The cruise control is great for killing miles but it's slighly agressive accelerating to the set speed.
  3. The console and audio are great, even though both could have been better I'm happy with it, wish there was a boot button inside but that can be fixed with some VCDS coding along with the speed chimes and some other stuff. I'm very curious how setting the XDS differential to strong will affect the car's handling.
  4. The ground clearance being on-par with so many wanna be SUVs has been a boon on Indian roads.
  5. The car's looks charm me and the by-standers and whenever I pull hard at a stoplight the exhaust sounds quite sporty and attracts some looks. I'm curious about an exhaust mod now.

I'm absolutely delighted with my decision to purchase this bug and will keep you updated on any mods or problems that come up. I'm ending the post with a couple of scenic locations the Millennium Falcon has been to.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

I owned a first batch Linea T-Jet (MY 2010). I took care of her like a child. Clocked 1.3 L Kms on that & she never failed me. What a gem of a car!! With age catching up and spine related issues, my DIY days were behind me. After moving to Goa, I simply couldn't care for her any longer. There are no authorized service centres or trustworthy & knowledgeable FNGs for the Fiat here. With a heavy heart, decided to sell her.

The day before she was sold

Final goodbye

Volkswagen Virtus Review-tjet-goodbye.jpeg

Started looking for a replacement. Was torn between new or used. Did not want to take out a loan & also did not want to plonk a big pile of cash for a car. My drives have reduced a lot & I only needed a car to take us for the occasional outings, shopping & the hospital visits. Only requirement, it has to be some kind of AT. My budget was 15 L max. I was looking at cars like the new Exter iAMT & the Kiger CVT. Then a very close friend from Kolkata came home for a vacation. Was chatting with him about the car. He spontaneously decided that I should have his VW Virtus GT. One year old. Done 12000 kms.

Asking price

The plan was for me to drive (with the missus, of course) to Bangalore, hand over the T-Jet to the buyer, fly to Kolkata & drive the Virtus back to Goa. But once we got to Bangalore, my wife had a fall & hurt herself. My friend immediately decided to drive down to Bangalore & hand the Virtus over to me. Two days later, he was in Bangalore with the car.

Volkswagen Virtus Review-virtus-gt-2.jpg

Drove the car from Bangalore to Goa yesterday. Here are my first long drive impressions of the car -
  1. Good highway car with plenty of power on tap, especially in sports mode
  2. Very comfortable seating. I drove for more than 12 hours & got home with almost no fatigue
  3. Cabin is definitely noisier than the T-Jet. So is the engine.
  4. No dedicated phone buttons on the steering wheel. Out going calls only possible with voice commands. The OK button on the RHS doubles up as answer or hang-up button
  5. Reads out messages aloud, including WA & Signal messages. Downside - you have to touch the HU screen to read the message. This is a feature of Android Auto
  6. The wireless phone charger sucks. The phone heats up badly. The charging is also very slow. I have decided that I am going to simply connect a cable to the conveniently nearby USB port & not use wireless charging at all
  7. Good handling, but the Jet was in a class of its own in that department
  8. AC was good enough for me. Ventilated seats are nice too
  9. Music system is definitely better than OE T-Jet. I am no audiophile, but the kind of music I listen to, sounded better in the Virtus
  10. Bottle holders in the doorpads & useable cupholders near the handbrake - finally
  11. Armrest has a deep storage pocket, but is way too far back for me to use - even when pushed as far ahead as it will go
  12. Contrary to what i initially thought, after driving a bit in Bangalore city, the suspension is actually slightly softer than the Jet. Over inflated tyres was the culprit. Oddly, the recommended pressure is a huge range - from 32 to 41 psi, depending on the load in the car
  13. First time driving an AT in the ghats, so wasn't very confident when descending. However the Virtus stayed in D3 mostly & did not just start rolling down like a loose rock
  14. Zero swelling of my feet after driving the whole day. The legs were really thankful for the DSG

Was surprised by how frugal the car is (this is from Nelamangala to Hubli - 100% 4/6 lane highway) -

Volkswagen Virtus Review-virtus-gt-fe.jpeg

All-in-all - A good filler for the Jet. Cannot be considered a replacement, though. The Jet's shoes are way too big for this one to fill

PS: KA govt guys ought to be loaded in a KSRTC basic bus & driven up & down the roads between the border & Ramnagar - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

PPS: Will drive to the KA border & back one of these days, in daytime, just to experience the Virtus in the ghats in a relaxed way

Sad to see her go but I think she's gone to someone who will appreciate her virtues and vices.

Wishing you many happy trouble free miles in the VW.

Re: Volkswagen Virtus Review

I am in the market for a new car. Took a test drive of the 1.0 litre Virtus manual. (Though I am looking to buy the 1.5 manual, that's not available for TD) It's one sweet car, loved the space, handling, seating comfort.
My only gripe is the interior, did the roof liner check at the A pillar by applying some pressure at the point where liner meets the plastic of the A pillar and the liner deformed like it was made of cardboard paper. Second thing was the AC. The TD car was parked in the hot sun, the AC struggled to cool the car.
I understand the TD car might be from the initial batches and hence these problems, wanted to check with the new owners if the recently manufactured cars also have these same issues or have things improved.

PS: The TD car (Yellow 1.0 manual Highline) is on offer at a 1.5 lakhs discount at VW Jamshedpur, if anyone is interested.

Congratulations on your new car. Looks great in the color. Quick question - isn’t that mileage low? I thought the 1.5 DSG had better mileage. Is it supposed to improve over time?

I really, really hope they don't do the red interior on this one. Please VW and give it better wheels.

Anyone else noticed a whistling sound from the AC vents when Speed is at level 3 or above ? I want to get that and the Driver side window bounce back issue fixed but I have some features unlocked via coding. Will that cause an issue ?

If possible, can you elaborate on the differences in handling between the Linea T-jet and Virtus 1.5 TSI?
It has been really long since I drove a Fiat Punto on a short drive and I don't remember much. But I have heard so much about the Fiat Punto's and Linea's Hydraulic power steering and handling. I would love to know the differences in handling, ride and steering feel/feedback.
