Not appreciable so far. My Thar continues to imbibe considerably. My Dads Glanza continues to be frugal.
We keep the Throttle controllers on both cars on the Adapt setting. This helps the Throttle controller to give the necessary impulse based on the driving style in any particular time frame. (For example it adapts as one drives in traffic and when one gets out to the open highway, so the overall FE hasn't seen any appreciable drop just because of this gadget.

You really need to love the legacy of the brand jimny to forgive its shortcomings as a daily driver. So as of now just waiting and enjoying my present ride (Ecosport Ecoboost and Freestyle petrol).Happy motoring existing Jimny owners and hope I will join you all with the next gen Jimny.
Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
Correcting my own post; Finally bought Jimny Alpha Manual in bluish black.
Reason for Manual transmission: felt more eager than AT.
On road experience : Need for constant gear changes if you want to go fast, overtake and close the gap in moderate traffic.Have ordered a throttle controller.Hope it brings the change
Steering felt heavy during parking and in slow speeds. So the car is best suited for sedate driving.Im planning to use it for daily commute.
Any one has installed the foldable armrest in jimny as the one seen with polo?

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

First real snow drive in Jimny by off-roading newbie:

Jimny configuration: Stock tyres, no throttle controller, Alpha AT variant, ODO before journey start 7020 km, second service done, no engine oil change, tyre pressure in upward journey= 28 psi in all 4, return journey= 22-23 psi. Received my Jimny on 28-July-2023.

- 1st Feb evening notifications started pouring in that higher reaches of Himalyan states received first good snowfall of current winter season.

- On 2nd Feb, dialed up both GMVN Dhanaulti and HPTDC about snow and road conditions. I understood that Narkanda would be a better destination considering this road is a main arterial road for supply chain and gets cleared by JCB and PWD on priority. By lunch time did the booking of HPTDC Narkanda for Saturday night(3rd Feb). We had work commitments for Monday, hence chose Narkanda (Himachal) over other places of Uttarakhand (Dhanaulti), since exit is more secured from HP.

- We considered an extra pair of shoes and socks (for the snow condition), torch and battery lantern, plenty of toilet tissue rolls, 3 themoflasks, approx 60 ml vodka in wiper water tank, MGA tyre inflator (permanent accessory in my car), multiple layer thermal inners, fleece, winter wear, one extra cloth set. Breakfast was prepared from home.

- Started at 01:46 hours from Gurgaon home. Didn't stop at regular Murthal dhabas for early breakfast & tea break to save time. Reached Kurukshetra Haveli in 3 hours time. Fortunately there was no fog on NH8 and NH44. Had the home made breakfast there. Then refueling was done at Dhalli at 10:30 AM.

- Snow on mountain slopes started from Kufri and intensified after Theog. 10 km before Narkanda I engaged 4H. This was my first drive with 4H, and at times I was getting puzzled seeing few additional indications on the instrument cluster and little different behaviour, and fuel consumption! However, reaching the destination safely was my priority and we could finally check in HPTDC Hotel Hatu by 13:15 hrs. It was approx 8 inches snow there, because snow level was upto the door frame plastic cladding and radial cups were touching the snow.

- Next day (4th Feb) early morning it started snowing again, and by 10 AM snowfall intensified. All 4x4 vehicles started moving to their next destination or return journey. We thought let us not wait any more and started for Gurgaon at 11:45 AM. At Narkanda all 4x2 vehicles were skidding or facing wheelspin problems and 4x4 vehicles were recovering them. Hence, there was further delay of 15-20 minutes to leave the area.

- Downhill drive through slippery snow was too scary for a newbie like me. Engaged 4H and pressed the Hill descent button, and maintained 20 kmph upto Theog where the slippery snow became less. Could see many Jimny plying on Himachal roads. There we met a large group of Thar owners who were perhaps going towards upper Himachal for expedition.

- Kufri was a mess, with 1.5 hours congestion time due to all nonsense stunts by tourist vehicles. Somehow I could avert any collision with skidding vehicles. We could also see topless men peeing on road and doing unsocial gestures there. It was an uncontrolled party scene on road from Fagu to Shimla!

- Shimla was relatively relaxed and empty. Road visibility was extremely low. Ultimately could reach Solan by 4 pm. After the late lunch, could start from there by evening. It was raining entirely upto Zirakpur. Poor LED headlamp is a major concern for us.

# What could have been better:

- 215 or 225 section wider A/T Tyres,
- Snow chains set,
- A handheld tyre pressure gauge and air release pin (I will buy this shortly),
- Battery cables (I forgot this cable set and left it at home),
- Larger fuel tank,
- Sensible tourists!!

Solo travel in heavy snow should be avoidable for a newbie, unless he/ she gets some hands-on experience of all essential functionalities of a 4x4.

Dont know why, but Jimny really looks at home in the snow. How was the trip? Slipping and sliding? Videos will do justice to your trip.

Thank you boss, for your inputs (as always )

I am planning to get on installed this week, i have another 500 kms round trip coming up this weekend. Should be a good route to test out the performance of the throttle controller.

Argh, I missed it by a few days. Returned on the 28th.

Coincidentally, My first experience of snow was also at Hotel Hatu.

Maruti Jimny Review-img_5901.jpeg

-------------

I went to Kotgarh (beyond Narkanda) in search of snow last week but returned without finding any. Saw more Jimnys in Himachal during the trip than in six months in NCR. Now that the car has done more than 5,000 km and been through an oil change, it seems significantly smoother. I could cruise in a relaxed manner at 90-100 kmph on the highways and achieved a respectable ~14 kmpl.

As a practice, I switch off OD on the hills and switch to 2 on narrower/steeper sections. Thus, I may not achieve the best possible fuel efficiency in the hills, but I always prioritise engine braking over fuel efficiency. Overall, an enjoyable trip despite not finding any snow.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Why do you have to press the Hill Descent control button? I thought it’s always on by default?

Another question - Can somebody confirm the type of bulb needed as a direct replacement for the indoor cabin lights in a Jimny? Is it W5W or T10 type? Has anyone found cabin light bulbs that are warm white and not pure white?

But yes these are white; I think you can get something in warm light from online or offline.

Thanks. Is it the same size for boot light as well? Not getting warm white anywhere online sadly.

Hill Hold is ON by default all the time.

Hill Descent Control needs to be switched ON when engaging 4H or 4L if the need arises - as in steep slopes in sand/snow or other low traction surfaces.

The HDC button is located along with the Traction Control and front window switches

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

One of SA has contacted me about Jimny Alpha Manual and he is offering a discount of max 1.4 lakhs. Please advise, if there can be any further room for negotiation. Going by the discount that others got I feel the adequate discount should be around 2.4 lakhs.
I am more inclined toward Alpha AT but do you advise to consider MT which is the last inventory the dealer has? I have requested VIN and waiting for his response.

Official discount on Alpha even during Dec Thunder campaign was 1 lakh and then some extra depending on dealer and location. Generally ppl got upto 2.4 to 3 Lakh discount on Zeta Models and pls keep in mind this was in December when stock was plentiful. Now you yourself told that this is one of the last in dealer inventory so the option to negotiate is limited. However few things may workout in your favor depending upon do you really want to pick this or you are willing to let it pass if you don't get desired discount.
The car will at most be September\October manufactured ( I haven't come across any Jimny sold in Dec which was Nov\Dec Manufactured ) hence it is already nearing 6 Month mark in dealer inventory, if the demand for Jimny's in your city is not high the dealer may have to leave his high ground and accept your terms, one of the members did report picking an Alpha MT for 13+change with TN registration not many days back which makes it a solid 3 lakhs discount I think.

MT vs AT depends on personal preference. You will not go wrong with both.
If you are inclined towards AT then try to check other dealers in near by towns.
Don't go for MT just for discount as you might end up with buyer's remorse.

Haven't changed the boot lamp; but it is 12V 5W - W5W T10 type as per the owner's manual.
Hope this helps!
