You are right. MVI's are pretty strict here. It all depends on their monthly target
I passed through them once and they haven't stopped me on this. May be my lucky day or may be they thought its an Maruti OE accessory
I have see quite number of SUV's plying around with sand ladder/ jerry can.

I have been issued a challan for my Thar for parking in front of MVD office. It has got negative offset wheels though.

Honestly, I wish I could fit those. I may probably go with an upper molle panel option to keep the recovery boards. I run with MT tyres and as far as I heard they are very aggressive if we put MT tyres. Can you please share the details on price and source of those recovery boards.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Hi All,

I've almost completed 6k in my Jimny MT Alpha White. Hence, I thought it was a good time to write in a mini-review of the same.

My previous vehicles have included a Grand Vitara 2.0, Polo GT TSI and currently a Mitsubishi Outlander.

Prologue
I have followed the Jimny launch with keen interest but did not bite the bullet once the prices were announced. However, with the Thunder Edition and yearly discounts, I finally took the plunge and bought one on 24th Dec'23.

Usage Till Now
As soon as I bought it, I took it with 4 adults and 1 kid to Mashobra in Himachal for 5 5-day trip. Post that it has been my daily driver for the office commute in Gurgaon (~11kms one way).

In the last week of Mar'24, I recently completed a 2000km road trip to Spiti Valley from Gurgaon. We were 2 adults and a boot full of luggage along with water, petrol jerrycan, the works.

Initial Impressions

My Jimny is stock - no changes in tyres, no accessories except the rear defogger wire protectors. I wanted to have a pristine driving experience for a bit before I started looking at mods.
The one change that I have made is adding a GAN tuning chip to the OBD port that gives better performance & drivability.

Putting down a few points after 6k of driving
  • Initially, I felt that the gears were a little hard, but the gearbox-clutch has smoothened out post 3.5k
  • The suspension setup is lovely and is a boon in Gurugram's pot-holed roads. In the hills, it has taken the bad roads with aplomb. At high speeds, on speed breakers or cornering you do feel the rear step out a bit and initially it was a bit unnerving but now I've understood it better.
  • Engine braking is really good and the more one drives this in the hills, the more you begin to start using the same.
  • The high-rev nature of the engine puts a smile on your face. I kept the revs above 2k on my hill drives and hardly ever felt the loss of power. There were patches and steep inclines where you needed to shift to 1st to get momentum, but almost all the other cars in our convoy also struggled. This is where I feel a little more torque would make the Jimny outstanding.
  • The stock tyres are adequate. On rough roads around Kaza, I did get sidewall puncture. Other Jimny's in the convoy had 215s Contis and 235 Yokos and they fared better. But for now, even with river and snow off-roading, the stock tyres felt adequate. An upgrade to 215s is on the cards in the near future.
  • Cabin storage for small items is abysmal. I managed to put some soft foam sheets on the front door pockets to help slide in a phone without rattling and damage. Cupholders get used. The front grab handle with the leatherette wrap also helps in holding the passenger phone. Apart from these changes, I do feel the need to add more storage options to the front.
  • The rear seat belt warning is a pain. I do not want to tamper with airbags deployment and keep them buckled in when not in use.
  • Boot storage is adequate and swallows up 2 mid-size suitcases and 2-3 duffle bags with ease.
  • Traction control is quite aggressive
  • Auto-start-stop in the hills can get intrusive. In city traffic, it's easy to use.
  • I love the size and footprint along with the commanding view of the road. It is small enough to get through most gaps, narrow hill roads and offers a very old-school SUV experience. I learnt my driving on a Gypsy and it has a similar feel.

Nice review.

One question. Were all Jimny MT or were there any AT box cars? How did they fare ?

Trips like this show how capable the Jimny is! Truly the mountain goat!

Very uneventful (as most service centers would get you to believe – just a tick mark service for them) but a very essential service in my opinion.
May I ask, how did you ensure the service center uses the torque wrench and tightens appropriately? Do you have to ask them before hand? Thanks.

You could ask about torque wrenches availability before you take your vehicle for service. Also a good idea would be to check on their access to the service manual. Please go armed with the torque values that were provided in the previous post and cross check on these. It’s also a good idea to tell them beforehand about any spares you might need.

Well how does one ensure that this is done? Stand next to your Jimny when it is being serviced and cross check each value they are putting in the wrench . That way you can be sure it’s done correctly.

Hope this helps.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Guys, I’m currently experiencing problems with Android Auto in my Jimny Manual Alpha.

Often, the incoming and outgoing calls are not shown on the car screen. It just starts ringing with no display on the car screen or the phone. I end up waiting for the ring to stop and see the number in the call log to make a callback.

Similarly, while making a call, it's possible to select the number from the call log or by voice command, but once the call is made, it's not shown on the screen or the phone.

All other functions are in place. I tried updating Android Auto, clearing the cache, and rebooting the car system, but no hope.

I'm using Nothing phone 2a. Has anyone come across a similar issue?

Is this after updating the software to latest version?

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Updated the Infotainment Software of Jimny Alpha from version 80TA.03.00 to version 80TA.07.00.

Steps to do this and stages :

Click on software download in the following page :https://www.marutisuzuki.com/corpora...rtplay-systems
Maruti Jimny Review-1a.png

On clicking software update it will take you to the following. Select Model Code as 80TA. It will give the Present Software Version - 80TA.03.00, and the available software version - 80TA.07.00. Click on download page :
https://www.global-infotainment-syst...ate/index.html
Maruti Jimny Review-1b.png

This is the page it takes you to on clicking the above. Click on Download to download the the file. This also details of the change version - 80TA.07.00 : Performance Improvement.
Maruti Jimny Review-1c.png

Unzip this folder called: Update_File_80TA_07_00(1).zip which will Extract a file called : Update.pkg. Copy this Update.pkg file to a pen drive (preferably 8GB and above ) with no files on it except this. The preferred formatting as always is FAT 32

The minute the USB is plugged in with Update.pkg file on it this is what will be seen on the screen. Press Yes for software update :
Maruti Jimny Review-1.jpeg

It will show downloading in progress. Then it will go it verification - boot automatically and finish in about 10 - 12 mins total.
Maruti Jimny Review-2.jpeg

This is the screen after verification complete:
Maruti Jimny Review-3.jpeg

Software updating - took about 4 minutes:

Boot up logo after updation:

Maruti Jimny Review-5.jpeg

After it completes the update it would display the new version which is 80TA.07.00:
Maruti Jimny Review-6.jpeg

I had intermittent issues with Apple Car Play not connecting sometimes. Its is definitely a faster and snappier connection now after updating.

People with connectivity issues both on Apple and Android should try and update. In our opinion it should help.

This is for an Alpha - the same process works for Zeta as well as long as the model code is known - and can be checked from the current software version as well - this will be the first 4 digits of the current software version.

Came across this April Fool's joke. And I kid you not, looking at the past month's numbers where the Hilux outsold the Jimny, I actually believed it. >.<

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Couple of minor accidents and Jimny build quality:

On 29th March, we were heading towards Kasol. It was a bright sunny day and we were enjoying the drive through the tunnels and butter smooth new tarmac. After crossing the Aut tunnel in Kullu, there was a turn and suddenly I could see a stranded Honda City in the middle of the road! Applied the brake in full force. However, my Automatic Transmission Jimny failed to stop fully and touched the rear bumper and Dickey of the City. Later I came to know that place is just opposite to "Thalaut" police station. What I could understand that couple of policemen either flagged down or were talking to an Alto. The Honda City behind the Alto could come to hault safely. But I was the unfortunate guy. Both the parties came out to inspect how much was the damage and then parked respective cars to the road side. Policemen were very delighted to intervene. They took sides of the Honda City accusing that I crashed into a stationary car.

I readily offered them insurance filing charges and also informed that their insurance claims will perhaps be covered in my third party coverage. However, policemen found that the Honda City didn't have any valid insurance. It was actually a pre-owned car (as informed by the owner). The elderly gentleman called up his other group cars and about 7-8 young hot headed chaps arrived in two more Honda City cars in no time. It was kind of "Animal" scene for them. They wanted to break windshield and glasses of my Jimny for which I gladly agreed and said, please go ahead. It would cost me 3000 rupees only to replace those glasses. The policemen wanted to seize both the cars and lodge an FIR. I said, please go ahead. Since the Honda City was on road without any insurance, the case will be in my favour in no time. Meanwhile, things were getting heated up and I couldn't connect to any of my known guys from Kullu/ Manali/ Bhuntar readily. They demanded 10k from me. And finally damage to my wallet could be negotiated to 5k. During all these drama, I could check that there was no leakage of any fluid, oil, coolant etc. the bumper grill clips were visible, right side metal panels around the grill were dented and paints peeled off at few places. The car engine, AC were running absolutely fine during the negotiation. I was driving at lower speed (I guess it was not more than 40 kmph). However, I am yet to install the dashcam. Hence couldn't analyse the sequence of events, speed when I detected and pressed brake, speed at impact point etc. Since the airbags didn't deploy, I guess the impact or speed was lower than airbag actuation set point.

There was absolutely no injury to anyone. I am lucky that there was no damage to the headlamps. I am attaching the photographs of damaged Honda City rear part and dented/ scratched parts of my Jimny.

Ultimately, the matter was settled and we finally arrived at Kasol. Next day, we visited Sri Manikaran Sahib and then started for Tosh. It was raining heavily and heard that it was snowing in Tosh and nearby areas. Just after Manikaran, we had to cross the river and then take a hairpin bend in uphill direction. It was raining heavily and muddy water was flowing down on tarmac. Suddenly I could see a flying bike coming down, taking the hairpin bend at high speed, loosing control and screeching sound- just like an intense action movie. And there was a heavy impact on right side, banging sound, screaming co-passenger. This time, Jimny came to a hault within no time. The biker was in full riding gears. It was kind of sleek racing type bike and not a heavy cruiser like Royal Enfield etc. (Since I can't ride a bike, I have no idea about brand or type or spec of the bike). Right knee of my co-passenger rubbed against some interior surface and she felt pain. I came out and inspected right side. I could see few scratch marks on right side front door and on right side rear wheel arch plastic cladding. Fortunately, the biker could stand on his feet with the help of few nearby bystanders. I am not sure whether the are friends or strangers, whether it was just an accident or they were filming reels for stunts and I arrived there at wrong time! Wife asked me to return back to Kasol immediately. However, I decided to proceed towards Tosh for few kilometres, have a tea (actually inspect the vehicle closely) and then return back. It was past 4 pm already, and after few kms drive, I could sense weather was turning bad and decided to turn back.

After returning to Gurgaon, I am yet to visit the service station for evaluation and repair works due to overriding priorities. Next week I have plans to visit Sahibabad or Ghaziabad NEXA service stations since I don't have any confidence on Gurgaon NEXA service centres to carry out any repair works of Jimny.

Once upon a time, Honda City was one of my dream car. However, now I am happy to drive a Jimny.

Need to check the following things at service centre:

1. Any metallic structure damage behind the bumper,
2. Any damage to airbag actuation sensors,
3. Headlamp alignment.

Re: Maruti Jimny Review

Hi guys,
Been on the fence for a Jimny since a few months now. I am on the lookout for a fuss-free/abuse-friendly daily driver and I think the Jimny stands out. Wanted to know from the forum members who have recently purchased a Jimny in Bangalore - What are the discounts available? I am inclined towards a manual, preferably a Zeta. Do not mind picking up a 2023 unit or a display/demo piece, or even a used car for that matter, provided it is in a fair nick. I have a couple of fresh eighteen year olds at home so keen that they learn how to drive in something characterful, inclined towards a used car so that it doesn't hurt the heart.
Any leads/inputs would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

@Mods - I hope this is an appropriate thread for this post. If not then kindly redirect to the correct thread.

I tried updating the software by following the instructions provided by you.

Though the system reads the update. pkg file stating 80TA.07.00 but option to press YES does not come. Only option of NO appears. I tried downloading file, unzipping & extracting to USB pen drive having FAT32 multiple times but it is not working.

Any suggestions to resolve this issue ?
