Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

Finally a very long trip in my Thar Roxx. Current odo is 18k kms.

The trip started in Feb’25 as my dad wanted to visit Khumb.

From Hyderabad we went to Pench, Tadoba, Nagpur, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Lucknow, Agra, Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjain, Omkareswar, Shiridi, Ajanta, Grishneshwar Nashik, Triambak, Bhimashankar and Back to Hyderabad.

I will try to post a Detailed travelogue later.

During my Halt at Delhi, Changed my grill to Wrangler seven slot grill and the look changed drastically to my eyes.

Impressions after during 7k kms drive:

1. Overall efficiency is 12-13 kmpl even if driven sedately.
2. Ride gets super bumpy on bad roads especially in Maharastra.
3. Highway rides are super comfortable.
4. Lumbar support is at Worst on all seats. Continuously using additional lumbar supports else my lower back hurts a lot. Mahindra could’ve added Scorpio N or Xuv700 seats in Thar. Those seats has excellent lower back support.
5. With 4 on board, the ride at bad loads becomes even worse than riding solo. Usually ride gets settled if there a load in body on ladder frame cars. But it’s vice versa here.
6. Getting into car is not a deal for my parents who are aged at 57 and 55. But bumpy ride is a big issue. The lateral movements over bad roads especially. Need to drive extremely slow to make the ride better. ScorpioN and Xuv700 has better ride quality.

Anyone else got the same call?
Yes, I got it done. Takes about 1 hour.

Beautiful pics and very apt feedback about the ride & handling. I have the same variant and I completely concur with your views

The grill looks really good.

Can you share the name of the place in Delhi where you got it done?

Was it easy to fit the front camera on the after market grill?

And finally how much did the grill conversion cost you?

Thanks and enjoy lots & lots of miles with your new steed

I have got it done at my friend’s detailing studio called Dr. Detail in Ghaziabad, NCR.

It had a provision to install the camera.

It’s dirt cheap as he sourced directly from the manufacturer. Costed me around 5.5k but we need to pick it from their area. Installation was done for free because he is a close friend of mine.

Here is the link of Insta reel he made it for the grill change.

I believe this is the only car which has old seven slat grill in Tango Red colour. I don’t like the latest Red and Black combination Rubicon type grill.

Dropping a picture during Installation process.

Re: Mahindra Thar Roxx Review

So is the request sensor thing on the models manufactured after March true or was that indeed done only for John Abraham?

Mine was manufactured in March (Mocha interiors), and still no request sensor. It looks like that was custom-made for John.

That's sad. It really got me excited. This was the only thing I felt was missing in the Roxx. All my cars for the past several years always had a request sensor. I am so used to it now that thinking about having to pull out the key everytime seems such a big hassle. (I know it's minor but feels like a big deal to me. ) Maybe will think of installing keydroid keybot to make up for it. However OEM request sensor is always the best option.

Options are limited. The Geolanders aren't available in the correct size if I'm not wrong. So am considering using the Continental Cross contact again. They served really well - though they're a bit pricey.

It will be surprising if all the car journalists got it wrong. Can others who have taken Roxx deliveries or have plans to take deliveries this month share more on it?

Took delivery of the AX7L Petrol Automatic last Saturday. The car was manufactured in mid-March but does not have the request sensor.

I am pretty sure that if request sensors were being included, youtube would have been full of videos on that subject. However a relative calm on youtube as well as tbhp makes it feel that all of the car journalists got it wrong. Most likely one of them published an article mentioning request sensors and everyone copied it without doing any validation. There was a post some pages back where someone was told by the dealer staff that request sensor was only for John Abraham.
