An early Allwyn Pushpak and a Lamby 150 with Mr Rajabhau Bhole of Nagpur.

The Allwyn Pushpak. The earliest ones had fixed front mudguards as the one seen here. By 1982, the mudguard design was changed so as to facilitate its movement vis-a-vis the handlebar.

The below scooter has been lying in our apartment complex for a long time. I think its owned by an old gent who lives in one of the blocks. I am total zero on scooters let alone Lamby ( I am assuming this one is a Lamby ). It just struck me whether I should approach this gent and ask him to sell this scooter to me and maybe I could get it restored for usage in the neighborhood.

To be very frank, I don't have the bandwidth to work on this restoration myself and hence I want to understand from you folks whether there is anyone in Chennai to whom I can just hand over the vehicle and get back a fully restored one ? ! What could be the approximate costs involved here ?

This is a Lambretta Li150. Might be from the 70s. The front mudguard is of a Lamby though. Very well, talk to him and know if he has the original papers and is in a mood to sell it off. You may expect an expenditure of at least 20 - 25k including an engine rebuild. Documentation cost extra. No problem with parts availability. Experts here can guide you through out. Just go ahead and crack a deal with the gentleman. Assure him you will take good care of the scooter. All the best.

As Ilango mentioned, it seems to be a Lambretta, going by the side panels/domes. You can see the difference from the Lamby:

BTW, if you ask me, this scooter doesn't really need a "nut and bolt" restoration! It looks fine as is, barring the surface rust on the paint (which I feel is not wrong to leave on either! Gives a nice patina! )
So first concentrate on getting it mechanically fit and give it a good polish job and she should be right!
I suggest you also better take some time getting familiar with the scooter through and through if/when you've bought it, rather than just thrusting it into a garage in a rush to get it 'restored.' You can always do that gradually.

Ilango, from what I can make out, it doesn't have a Lamby mudguard, going by the broader "crest" along the centre, unlike the narrow crest of the Lamby (check the pics. in the links I've posted above for ref.)

I approached the old gentleman who owns the above Lambretta. Its I think a '73-'74 model. Apparently it has been flagged as a condemned vehicle at the local RTO. So I presume it would have to be registered as a new vehicle now ? Is that even possible ? I know anything is possible in our RTOs at the right price point but want to see if I can do it the right way first. Post that I need to approach this person again for purchasing the scooter.

To register this as a new vehicle, you have to get the invoice from the showroom, which is not going to be possible. Hence this is not be possible. But call me sometime, I am also from chennai and had restored a Lamby fairly to a decent work. dont own it now though.

I happened to see this Lambretta, yesterday, from, probably, the 70s, at Raghaviah Road, T.Nagar, Chennai. It seems to be in decent running order. It does not appear to be a Lamby of a later date though.
